Conventional cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEHs) are usually fabricated with continuous electrode configuration (CEC), which suffers from the electrical cancellation at higher vibration modes. Though previous research pointed out that the segmented electrode configuration (SEC) can address this issue, a comprehensive evaluation of the PEH with SEC has yet been reported. With the consideration of delivering power to a common load, the AC outputs from all segmented electrode pairs should be rectified to DC outputs separately. In such case, theoretical formulation for power estimation becomes challenging. This paper proposes a method based on equivalent circuit model (ECM) and circuit simulation to evaluate the performance of the PEH with SEC. First, the parameters of the multi-mode ECM are identified from theoretical analysis. The ECM is then established in SPICE software and validated by the theoretical model and finite element method (FEM) with resistive loads. Subsequently, the optimal performances with SEC and CEC are compared considering the practical DC interface circuit. A comprehensive evaluation of the advantageous performance with SEC is provided for the first time. The results demonstrate the feasibility of using SEC as a simple and effective means to improve the performance of a cantilevered PEH at a higher mode.
In this paper, this paper discusses how to improve the power control system of cold and hot water purifiers, in particular, system protecting device against abnormal voltage. The existing power supply control system came with a protecting device composed of varistor device only for impulse-type surges. Even though the existing system senses surge other than impulse-type, the system can not be protected. Accordingly, a new type of power control system was designed to protect the system from surge and ultimately prevent electricity accidents. The power control system suggested in this paper will be designed to protect the system by sensing input voltage and discontinuing power supply by means of SSR if voltage exceeding set value is sensed. To test the designed system, surge was imposed on the existing system and processes of system failure were experimented before safety of the designed power control system was simulated via P-spice program developed by Orcad in order to examine safety and reliability of the system.
For the purpose of designing and applying the optimum surge protection scheme, multi-stage coordinated surge protective device(SPD) system is suitable to successfully fulfill its tasks; first, to divert a large amount of the transient energy, second, to clamp the overvoltage to the level below the withstand impulse voltage of the equipment to be protected. The length of SPD connecting leads shall be as short as possible. Long connecting leads will degrade the protection effect of SPDs. In this paper, the influences of the length of connecting leads on the energy sharing in a coordinated SPD system were investigated experimentally, and the simulation of determining the energy sharing and protection voltage level of each SPD depending on the length of connecting leads was carried out by using P-spice program. It was confirmed that the protection voltage level and energy sharing in coordinated SPD systems are strongly influenced by the length of connecting leads.
In this paper, a dynamic range(DR) extension technique based on a 3-transistor active pixel sensor(APS) and dual image sampling is proposed. The feature of the proposed APS is that the APS uses two or more photodiodes with different sensitivities, such as a high-sensitivity photodiode and a low-sensitivity photodiode. Compared with previously proposed wide DR(WDR) APS, the proposed approach has several advantages, such as no-external equipments or signal processing, no-additional time-requirement for additional charge accumulation, simple operation and adjustable DR extension by controlling parasitic capacitance and sensitivity of two photodiodes. Approximately 16 dB of DR extension was evaluated from the simulation for the situation of 10 times of sensitivity difference and the same size of parasitic capacitance between those two photodiodes.
[ $0.25{\mu}m$ ] N-well CMOS 공정기술을 이용하여 전류 구동형 A/D 변환기 회로를 설계하였다.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is widely used as a common condiment for a variety of foods and beverages. In addition to its extensive utilization as a spice, the fresh or the processed rhizome is a useful crude drug in traditional Chinese medicine. It is considered to possess stomachic, carminative, stimulant, diuretic and antiemetic properties. Chemical studies on the pungent principles of ginger have been carried out by a number of investigators, and 6-gingerol and 6-shogaol as a major pungent substance have been isolated. In this study, the constituents inhibiting a drug metabolizing enzyme CYP3A4 from ginger were investigated. CYP3A4 is responsible for drug metabolism as heme-containing monooxygenases. As a result of experiment, 10-gingerol (lC$_{50}$ 5.75$\mu$M) isolated from EtOAc extract of ginger showed remarkable inhibitory activity compared to 6-gingerol ($IC_{50}$/ 14.56 $\mu$M) and zingerone ($IC_{50}$/ 379.63 $\mu$M). This paper describes the isolation, structure elucidation, and CYP3A4 inhibitory activity of these compounds. The structure of the compounds were identified by instrumental analysis such as LC-mass spectrometer and NMR.R.
Wearable devices and IoT are being utilized in various fields, where all systems are developing in the direction of multi-functionality, low power consumption, and high speed. In this paper, we propose a DC -DC Step-down C onverter for IoT smart devices. The proposed DC -DC Step-down converter is composed of a control block of the power supply stage. It also consists of an overheat protection circuit, under-voltage protection circuit, an overvoltage protection circuit, a soft start circuit, a reference voltage circuit, a lamp generator, an error amplifier, and a hysteresis comparator. The proposed DC-DC converter was designed and fabricated using a Magnachip / Hynix 180nm CMOS process, 1-poly 6-metal, the measured results showed a good match with the simulation results.
Nowadays, the IoT portable electronic devices have become more useful and diverse, so they require various supply voltage levels to operate. This paper presents a DC-DC buck converter with pulse width modulation (PWM) for portable electronic devices. The proposed step-down DC-DC converter consists of passive elements such as capacitors, inductors, and resistors and an integrated chip (IC) for signal control to reduce power consumption and improves ripple voltage with the resolution. The proposed DC-DC converter is simulated and analyzed in PSPICE circuit design platform, and implemented on the prototype PCB board with a Texas Instruments LM5165 IC. The proposed buck converter is showed 92.6% of peak efficiency including a load current range of 4-10 mA, 3.29 mV of the voltage ripple at 5 V output voltage for the supply voltage 12 V. Measured and Simulated power efficiency are made good agreement with each other.

Objectives: The medicinal plants are believed to enhance the natural resistance of the body to infections. Some of the main constituents of the plant and derived materials such as, proteins, lectins and polysaccharides have anti-inflammatory effects. Portulaca oleracea (P. oleracea) were used traditionally for dietary, food additive, spice and various medicinal purposes. This review article is focus on the anti-asthmatic effects of P. oleracea and its constituents. Methods: Various databases, such as the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, were searched the keywords including "Portulaca oleracea", "Quercetin", "Anti-inflammatory", "Antioxidant", "Cytokines", "Smooth muscle ", and " Relaxant effects " until the end of Jul 2018. Results: P. oleracea extracts and its constituents increased $IFN-{\gamma}$, IL-2, $IFN{\gamma}/IL-4$ and IL- 10/IL-4 ratio, but decreased secretion of $TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-4 and chemokines in both in vitro and in vivo studies. P. oleracea extracts and quercetin also signifcantly decreased production of NO, stimulated ${\beta}$-adrenoceptor and/or blocking muscarinic receptors in tracheal smooth muscles. Conclusion: P. oleracea extracts and quercetin showed relatively potent anti-asthmatic effects due to decreased production of NO, inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, reduced oxidant while enhanced antioxidant markers, and also showed potent relaxant effects on tracheal smooth muscles via stimulatory on ${\beta}$-adrenoceptor or/and blocking muscarinic receptors.
Purpose: Autonomous driving cars, which are often represent the new convergence product, have been researched since the early years of 1900 but their safety assurance policies are yet to be implemented for real world practices. The primary purpose of this paper is to propose a modular concept based on which a safety assurance system can be designed and implemented for operating autonomous driving cars. Methods: We combine a set of key attributes of CE mark (European Assurance standard), E-Mark (Automobile safety assurance system), and A-SPICE (Automobile software assurance standard) into a modular approach. Results: Autonomous vehicles are emphasizing software safety, but there is no integrated safety certification standard for products and software. As such, there is complexity in the product and software safety certification process during the development phase. Using the concept of module, we were able to come up with an integrated safety certification system of product and software for practical uses in the future. Conclusion: Through the modular concept, both international and domestic standards policy stakeholders are expected to consider a new structure that can help the autonomous driving industries expedite their commercialization for the technology advanced market in the era of Industry 4.0.
