The feasibility of the application of terahertz electromagnetic waves in the diagnosis of prostate cancer was examined. Four samples of incomplete cancerous prostatic paraffin-embedded tissues were examined using terahertz spectral imaging (TPI) system and the results obtained by comparing the absorption coefficient and refractive index of prostate tumor, normal prostate tissue and smooth muscle from one of the paraffin tissue masses examined were reported. Three hundred and sixty cases of absorption coefficients from one of the paraffin tissues examined were used as raw data to classify these three tissues using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM). An excellent classification with an accuracy of 92.22% in the prediction set was achieved. Using the distribution information of THz reflection signal intensity from sample surface and absorption coefficient of the sample, an attempt was made to use the TPI system to identify the boundaries of the different tissues involved (prostate tumors, normal and smooth muscles). The location of three identified regions in the terahertz images (frequency domain slice absorption coefficient imaging, 1.2 THz) were compared with those obtained from the histopathologic examination. The tissue tumor region had a distinctively visible color and could well be distinguished from other tissue regions in terahertz images. Results indicate that a THz spectroscopy imaging system can be efficiently used in conjunction with the proposed advanced computer-based mathematical analysis method to identify tumor regions in the paraffin tissue mass of prostate cancer.
The design rule of digital communication systems is the reliable data transmission with high spectral efficiency and minimum allowable power. This paper suggests the method that saves the average power by implementing a multi-dimensional constellation in case of multi-carrier communication system. By using multi-dimensional constellations we can relocate constellation points in the form of a sphere. If we simply convert the two-dimensional QAM modulation into multi-dimensional QAM, constellation points of 2 N dimensional cube form are made up. Relocating outermost constellation points of 2 N dimensional cube form into low energy constellation points, the constellation of the 2 N-dimensional sphere form is made up which decreases power consumption. In this paper, the multi-dimensional constellations of 2 N-dimensional sphere form are designed from 16-QAM to 2,048-QAM, and power reductions are obtained by comparing constellations of 2-dimensional QAMs and multi-dimensional constellations of 2 N-dimensional sphere form. The result shows that the average power consumption of higher dimensional constellations increases, because the more a dimension elevates, the more the relocatable constellation points increase. But, the increment of the average power savings decreases as the a dimension elevates. The transmission of the data by using multi-dimensional constellations of the sphere form is effective to save the average power consumption with little hardware complexity.

In the companion paper (I-Problem Statements of the Current Seismic Design Code), the current Korean seismic design code is required to be modified considering site characteristics in Korea for the reliable estimation of site amplification. In this paper, three site classification methods based on the mean shear wave velocity of the top 30m $V_{S30}$, fundamental site periods $(T_G)$ and bedrock depth were investigated and compared with each other to determine the best classification system. Not enough of a difference in the standard deviation of site coefficients $(F_a\;and\;F_v)$ to determine the best system, and neither is the difference between the average spectral accelerations and the design response spectrum of each system. However, the amplification range of RRS values based on $T_G$ were definitely concentrated on a narrow band than other classification system. It means that sites which have a similar behavior during earthquake will be classified as the same site category at the site classification system based on $T_G$. The regression curves between site coefficients and $T_G$ described the effect of soil non linearity well as the rock shaking intensity increases than the current method based on $V_{S30}$. Furthermore, it is unambiguous to determine sue category based on $T_G$ when the site investigation is performed to shallower depth less than 30m, whereas the current $V_{S30}$ is usually calculated fallaciously by extrapolating the $V_s$ of bedrock to 30m. From the results of this study, new site classification system based on $T_G$ was recommended for legions of shallow bedrock depth in Korea.
Incision into bedrock channel is the primary control of landform evolution, but research into bedrock incision process stagnated for long time. Due to the scaling problem of the application of results from flume studies to bedrock channel, there is a strong need to simulate the bedrock incision process with more realistic models. As a part of investigation into controls of bedrock channel incision, three-dimensional changes of rock surface with abrasion was investigated with physical modelling. 18 rock plates were abraded with various sediment particle size and sediment load and abraded surfaces of the plates were scanned with high resolution 3-D scanner. To identify the spatial pattern of erosion of the rock plates, various methods were used. There was no synthetic or holistic method that showed all features of bedrock plate produced by abrasion, so each plate was analyzed using some available methods. Contour maps, shaded relief maps and profiles show that abrasion concentrated on the centre of plate (cross profile) and upstream and downstream edges (longitudinal profile) and eroded area extended inwards. It also found that the cracks and boundaries of forming materials easily eroded than other parts. Changing patterns of surface roughness were investigated with profiles, regression analysis and spectral analysis. Majority of plates showed decrease in small-scale roughness, but it depends on microstructures of the plates rather than general hardness or other factors. SEM inspection results supported this idea.

This paper is presented to perform linear dynamic analysis of bridges due to vehicle moving on bridges. The road surface roughness and bridge/vehicle interaction are also considered. The bridge and vehicle are modeled as 3-D bridge and vehicle model, respectively. The road surface roughness of the roadway and bridge decks are generated from power spectral density(PSD) function for good road. The PSD function proposed by C.J. Dodds and J.D. Robson is used to describe the road surface roughness for good road condition. The vehicles are modeled as two nonlinear vehicle model with 7-D.O.F of truck and 12-D.O.F of tractor-trailer and the equations of motion of the vehicles are derived using Lagrange's equation. The main girder and concrete deck are modeled as beam and shell element, respectively and rigid link is used between main girder and concrete deck. The equations of motion of the vehicles are solved by Newmark ${\beta}$ method and the equations of the motion of the bridges are solved by mode-superposition procedures. The validity of the proposed procedure is demonstrated by comparing the results with the experimental data reported by the AASHO Road Test. The comparison shows that the agreement between experiment and theory is quite satisfactory.

The effects of earthquakes can be devastating especially to existing structures that are not based on earthquake resistant design. This study proposes a steel grid shear wall that can provide a sufficient lateral resistance and can be used as a seismic retrofit method. The pushover analysis was performed on RC structure with and without the proposed steel grid shear wall. Obtain the performance point that the target structure for seismic loads applied to evaluate the response and performance levels. The capacity spectrum at performance point is nearly elastic range, so satisfied the performance objectives(LS level). And response modification factor(R factor) were calculated from the pushover analysis. The R factor approach is currently implemented to reflect inelastic ductile behavior of the structures and to reduce elastic spectral demands from earthquakes to the design level. The R factor increases from 2.17 to 3.25 was higher than the design criteria. As a result, according to reinforcement by steel grid shear wall, strength, stiffness, and ductility of the low-rise RC structure has been appropriately improved.
We have fabricated a-Si:H multilayer for contact-type linear image sensor by means of RF glow discharge decomposition method. The ITO/i-a-Si:H/Al structure has relatively high dark current due to indium diffusion and carrier injection from both electrodes, resulting in low photocurrent to dark current. To suppress the dark current and to enhance interface electric field between ITO and i-a-Si:H film we have fabricated ITO/insulator/i-a-S:H/p-a-S:H/Al multilayer film with blocking structure. The photocurrent of ITO/$SiO_{2}(300{\AA})$/i-a-Si:H/p-a-Si:H($1500{\AA}$)/Al multilayer sensor with 5V bias voltage became saturated at about 20nA under $20{\mu}W/cm^{2}$ light intensity, while the dark current was less than 0.1nA. To increase the light generation efficiency we have adopted ITO/$SiO_{x}N_{y}(300{\AA})$/i-a-Si:H/p-a-Si:H($1500{\AA}$)/Al structure, showing photocurrent of 30nA and dark current of 0.08nA with 5V bias voltage. Also the spectral photosensitivity of the multilayer was enhanced for short wavelength visible region of 560nm, compared with that of the a-Si:H monolayer of 630nm. And its photoresponse time was about 0.3msec with the film homogeneity of 5% deviation.

Every year, the floating macroalgae, green and golden tide, are massively detected at the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. After influx of them to the aquaculture facility or beach, it occurs enormous economic losses to remove them. Currently, remote sensing is used effectively to detect the floating macroalgae flowed into the coast. But it has difficulties to detect the floating macroalgae exactly because of the wavelength overlapped with other targets in the ocean. Also, it is difficult to distinguish between green and golden tide because they have similar spectral characteristics. Therefore, we tried to distinguish between green and golden tide applying the Deep learning method to the satellite images. To determine the network, the optimal training conditions were searched to train the AlexNet. Also, Gaofen-1 WFV images were used as a dataset to train and validate the network. Under these conditions, the network was determined after training, and used to confirm the test data. As a result, the accuracy of test data is 88.89%, and it can be possible to distinguish between green and golden tide with precision of 66.67% and 100%, respectively. It is interpreted that the AlexNet can be pick up on the subtle differences between green and golden tide. Through this study, it is expected that the green and golden tide can be effectively classified from various objects in the ocean and distinguished each other.
A quicker method was developed for foliar analysis in diagnosis of nitrogen in apple trees based on multivariate calibration procedure using partial least squares regression (PLSR) and principal component regression (PCR) to establish the relationship between reflectance spectra in the near infrared region and nitrogen content of fresh- and dry-leaf. Several spectral pre-processing methods such as smoothing, mean normalization, multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) and derivatives were used to improve the robustness and performance of the calibration models. Norris first derivative with a seven point segment and a gap of six points on MSC gave the best result of partial least squares-1 PLS-1) model for dry-leaf samples with root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) equal to $0.699g\;kg^{-1}$, and that the Savitzky-Golay first derivate with a seven point convolution and a quadratic polynomial on MSC gave the best results of PLS-1 model for fresh-samples with RMSEP of $1.202g\;kg^{-1}$. The best PCR model was obtained with Savitzky-Golay first derivative using a seven point convolution and a quadratic polynomial on mean normalization for dry leaf samples with RMSEP of $0.553g\;kg^{-1}$, and obtained with the Savitzky-Golay first derivate using a seven point convolution and a quadratic polynomial for fresh samples with RMSEP of $1.047g\;kg^{-1}$. The results indicate that nitrogen can be determined by the near infrared reflectance (NIR) technology for fresh- and dry-leaf of apple.
VO$_{x}$ and V$_{1-x}$ Sn$_{x}$O$_2$thin films were fabricated on a glass under various $O_2$pressure by reactive e-beam evaporation method. Thermochromism and transition temperatures of these thin films were examined by measuring spectral solar transmittances with spectrophotometer at various temperatures, and their stoichiometries were analyzed by RBS. Oxygen pressure of 5$\times$10$^{-5}$ . Torr was found to be optimum to fabricate near stoichiometric VO$_2$thin film by reactive e-beam evaporation. Rapid thermal annealing(RTA) was adopted to crystallize the thin films and annealing at 40$0^{\circ}C$ ~45$0^{\circ}C$ for 20 ~ 30 seconds was found to be the optimum annealing condition for the crystallization of VO$_2$thin film of 100nm-300nm thickness. 1~6 atomic percent of Sn was doped into VO$_2$thin films to fabricate V$_{1-x}$ Sn$_{x}$O$_2$thin films. These V$_{1-x}$ Sn$_{x}$O$_2$thin films showed distinct thermochromism and significantly higher transition temperatures than VO$_2$thin film.
