Analysis of Landscape Structure on the Impervious Cover of the Gap-Stream Watershed using FRAGSTATS (FRAGSTATS 모델을 이용한 갑천 유역의 불투수면 변화에 따른 경관 구조 분석)

  • An impervious cover in the watershed management has been used as effective indicators. It is a very useful barometer to measure the impacts of watershed development on aquatic systems. Hence, it is necessary to survey the impervious cover of a watershed and to develop an impervious cover model (ICM) for supporting best management practices. The main objectives of this study were to investigate the spatial patterns of the impervious cover, to calculate landscape indices using FRAGSTATS, and to develop an ICM in the Gap-stream watershed and its six sub-watersheds. The results showed that the impervious cover of the Gap-stream watershed increased from 4.9 % in 1975 to more than 11.2 % in 2000, the number of impervious cover fragments increased from 662 to 3,578, and the landscape shape index increased from 27.0796 to 91.1982. Fragmentation was severe within the Yudeungcheon downstream and the Gapcheon downstream of six sub-watersheds. This paper presented the results derived landscape indices to define landscape patterns and structure for the Gap-stream watershed. Our results indicate that altered land use might be influenced changes in landscape structure.

A Study on the Regional Difference of Obesity in the Social Vulnerabilities -Focused on the Suwon City (사회취약계층 비만의 지역 격차에 관한 연구 -수원시를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to spatialize the gap between obesity levels through the body mass index, an objective indicator of the level of health among vulnerable people. Thus, areas where the BMI showed cluster patterns with spatial high and low values were extracted and the characteristics of the region were analyzed. The analysis showed that the I statistics for the obesity rate were 0.07 and the z-score was 4.39, confirming spatial autocorrelation. For z-score, it was much larger than the maximum threshold of 2.57. This means that the rate of obesity among the socially vulnerable is regional, and this gap is spatially significant. The results of comparing and analyzing the local environment for these areas of obesity and health care were found to be areas with poor public transportation, less readily available parks, and a concentration of single and multi-generation housing. The analysis results of this study are meaningful in that they provide spatial implications for the health of the socially vulnerable class that previous studies have neglected.

  • A portable mould oscillation analyzer with an integrated computer, developed by POSCO, records the movement of the mould in every spatial direction. The system uses the gap sensors to measure the mould movement (displacement) in two horizontal directions according to the mould narrow and broad faces and the vertical strokes in the four corners of mould. The gap sensor is a non-contacting minute displacement-measuring device using the principle of high frequency eddy current loss. The mould oscillation diagnostic system integrates the gap sensors, their converters and the industrial portable computer with plug-in data acquisition boards. In an own expert module, which is included in the diagnosis program, one can obtain much information about the mould oscillation equipment.

  • The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) derived from satellite images is a crucial tool to monitor forests and agriculture for broad areas because the periodic acquisition of the data is ensured. However, optical sensor-based vegetation indices(VI) are not accessible in some areas covered by clouds. This paper presented a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) based approach to retrieval of the optical sensor-based NDVI using machine learning. SAR system can observe the land surface day and night in all weather conditions. Radar vegetation indices (RVI) from the Sentinel-1 vertical-vertical (VV) and vertical-horizontal (VH) polarizations, surface elevation, and air temperature are used as the input features for an automated machine learning (AutoML) model to conduct the gap-filling of the Sentinel-2 NDVI. The mean bias error (MAE) was 7.214E-05, and the correlation coefficient (CC) was 0.878, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed method. This approach can be applied to gap-free nationwide NDVI construction using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 images for environmental monitoring and resource management.

  • With a rapid growing of information networks and development achievements in mobile technology the spatial information is one of the most important resources for modern daily life. But the speed of spatial information technology trends are far from the real service demands as compared to the other relevant fields, and it would be natural that this unbalanced gap between the supply and demand of spatial information technology is being resulted from the absence of appropriate modeling concepts at some extents. In this paper there would be shown a new approaching model for the spatial information system based on agent concepts, which is able to perform some spatial tasks if properly implemented afterward. And to give resonable background of the new modeling framework here also some known critics for the commonly used modeling approaches when they applied to spatial information modeling followed by several alternative requirements for a good spatial modeling framework. And also there would be some considerations for applying this approach to the marine geographic information communities.

SAMPLING ERROR ANALYSIS FOR SOIL MOISTURE ESTIMATION

  • A spectral formalism was applied to quantify the sampling errors due to spatial and/or temporal gaps in soil moisture measurements. The lack of temporal measurements of the two-dimensional soil moisture field makes it difficult to compute the spectra directly from observed records. Therefore, the space-time soil moisture spectra derived by stochastic models of rainfall and soil moisture was used in their record. Parameters for both models were tuned with Southern Great Plains Hydrology Experiment(SGP'97) data and the Oklahoma Mesonet data. The structure of soil moisture data is discrete in space and time. A design filter was developed to compute the sampling errors for discrete measurements in space and time. This filter has the advantage in its general form applicable for all kinds of sampling designs. Sampling errors of the soil moisture estimation during the SGP'97 Hydrology Experiment period were estimated. The sampling errors for various sampling designs such as satedlite over pass and point measurement ground probe were estimated under the climate condition between June and August 1997 and soil properties of the SGP'97 experimental area. The ground truth design was evaluated to 25km and 50km spatial gap and the temporal gap from zero to 5 days.

Investigation of Spatial Distribution of Plasma Density between the Electrode and Lateral Wall of Narrow-gap CCP Source (좁은 간격 CCP 전원의 전극과 측면 벽 사이 플라즈마 분포)

  • The plasma density distribution in between the electrode and lateral wall of a narrow gap CCP was investigated. The plasma density distribution was obtained using single Langmuir probe, having two peaks of density distribution at the center of electrode and at the peripheral area of electrodes. The plasma density distribution was compared with the RF fluctuation of plasma potential taken from capacitive probe. Ionization reactions obtained from numerical analysis using CFD-$ACE^+$ fluid model based code. The peaks in two region for plasma density and voltage fluctuation have similar spatial distribution according to input power. It was found that plasma density distribution between the electrode and the lateral wall is closely related with the local ionization.

  • It is important to understand tile behaviours of tile high pressure DC glow discharge with a micro gap inside a pixel of the plasmas display panel. We prepared a narrow gap discharge system and have measured electron temperature and density by means of double probe methods in high pressure which was between 100torr and 200torr. And the electrode gap was 7mm. When the pressure varied from 100torr to 200torr, the negative glow was created at a distance less than 1mm from the cathode. And the length of the faraday dark space decreased from 8mm to 5mm. Hence probe measurements was mainly, performed in the region of the Faraday dark space. The dependence of electron temperature and density on the pressure and current density was same with that of the general flow discharge, i.e. as the pressure increased the electron temperature decreased and the density increased. But the spatial electron density distribution in the Faraday dark space was highly distorted because of the effect of high pressure.

Improving visual relationship detection using linguistic and spatial cues

  • Detecting visual relationships in an image is important in an image understanding task. It enables higher image understanding tasks, that is, predicting the next scene and understanding what occurs in an image. A visual relationship comprises of a subject, a predicate, and an object, and is related to visual, language, and spatial cues. The predicate explains the relationship between the subject and object and can be categorized into different categories such as prepositions and verbs. A large visual gap exists although the visual relationship is included in the same predicate. This study improves upon a previous study (that uses language cues using two losses) and a spatial cue (that only includes individual information) by adding relative information on the subject and object of the extant study. The architectural limitation is demonstrated and is overcome to detect all zero-shot visual relationships. A new problem is discovered, and an explanation of how it decreases performance is provided. The experiment is conducted on the VRD and VG datasets and a significant improvement over previous results is obtained.
