  • This study investigates relationships between 7th and 8th grade students' achievements in forming and solving equations of. Study was conducted on randomly selected 7th and 8th grade students of elementary schools in Konya City, Turkey. 145 students (99 female, 46 male) participated in the research. Data were collected by an 'Equation Test'. The test which is suitable for equation types in 7th Grade Elementary Mathematics Curriculum. It was developed by the researchers. The relationships between achievements in forming and solving equations were examined by dependent samples t-test. The t-test results show that there is a significant difference. This difference is in the favor of equation solving (p>0.05). In other word, students are more successful in equation solving. In addition, students' achievements about different types of equations were investigated. The results show that the students have the highest achievement in ax=b type and the lowest achievement in (ax+b)/c=(dx+e)/f type of equations.

  • The use of fuzzy number over interval of confidence instead of possibilitic consideration for solving fuzzy equation is proposed. This approach of solving fuzzy equation by interval arithmetic and ${\alpha}$-cuts has a considerable advantage. Through theoretical analysis, an illustrative example and computational results, we show that the proposed approach is more general and straight-forword.

  • In this paper we introduce a multigrid method for solving the nonliear Urysohn integral equation. The algorithm is derived from a discrete resolvent equation which approximates the continuous resolvent equation of the nonlinear Urysohn integral equa-tion. The algorithm is mathematically equivalent to Atkinson's adap-tive twogrid iteration. But the two are different computationally. We show the convergence of the algorithm and its equivalence to Atkinson's adaptive twogrid iteration. in our numerical example we compare our algorithm to other multigrid methods for solving the nonliear Urysohn integral equation including the nonlinear multigrid nethod introduced by hackbush.

  • Conformal mapping has been a familiar tool of science and engineering for generations. Determination of a conformal map from the unit disk onto the Jordan region is reduced to solving the Theodorsen equation, which is an integral equation for boundary correspondence functions. There are many methods for solving the Theodorsen equation. It is the goal of numerical conformal mapping to find methods that are at once fast, accurate, and reliable. In this paper, we analyze Niethammer’s solution based on successive over-relaxation (SOR) iteration and Wegmann’s solution based on Newton iteration, and compare them to determine which one is more effective. Through several numerical experiments with these two methods, we can see that Niethammer’s method is more effective than Wegmann’s when the degree of the problem is low and Wegmann’s method is more effective than Niethammer’s when the degree of the problem is high.

  • In this paper we study meaning and methods of analyzing problems related with equation of high school mathematics. By analyzing problem we can get two types of informations. Based on these informations we suggest some problem solving methods. Especially we try to extract second type information using analysis through synthesis. This second type information can help us to find new non-routine problem solving method.

  • We propose a numerical method for solving Allen-Cahn equation, in both one-dimensional and two-dimensional cases. The new scheme that is explicit, stable, and easy to compute is obtained and the proposed method provides a straightforward and effective way for nonlinear evolution equations.

  • In this article, Adomian decomposition method (ADM), variation iteration method(VIM) and homotopy analysis method (HAM) for solving integro-differential equation with singular kernel have been investigated. Also,we study the existence and uniqueness of solutions and the convergence of present methods. The accuracy of the proposed method are illustrated with solving some numerical examples.

  • In this paper we apply the Exp-function method to obtain traveling wave solutions of three nonlinear partial differential equations, namely, generalized sinh-Gordon equation, generalized form of the famous sinh-Gordon equation, and double combined sinh-cosh-Gordon equation. These equations play a very important role in mathematical physics and engineering sciences. The Exp-Function method changes the problem from solving nonlinear partial differential equations to solving a ordinary differential equation. Mainly we try to present an application of Exp-function method taking to consideration rectifying a commonly occurring errors during some of recent works.

  • Finding a solution for the Legendre equation is difficult. Especially if it is as a part of the Laplace equation solving in the electric fields. In this paper, first a problem of the generalized differential transform method (GDTM) is solved by the Sturm-Liouville equation, then the Legendre equation is solved by using it. To continue, the approximate solution is compared with the nth-degree Legendre polynomial for obtaining the inner and outer potential of a sphere. This approximate is more accurate than the previous solutions, and is closer to an ideal potential in the intervals.

  • The purpose of this paper is to reinterpret and visualize the medieval Arab's studies on the geometric methods of solving the cubic equation by utilizing Apollonius' symptom of the parabola. In particular, we investigate the results of $Kam{\bar{a}}l$ $al-D{\bar{i}}n$ ibn $Y{\bar{u}}nus$, Alhazen, Umar al-$Khayy{\bar{a}}m$ and $Al-T{\bar{u}}s{\bar{i}}$ by 4 steps(analysis, construction, proof and examination) which are called the complete solution in the constructions. This paper is available in the current middle school curriculum through dynamic geometry program(Geogebra).
