Factors affecting the development of consumer-brand relationships - The role of parasocial interaction - (SNS 브랜드 페이지에서 소비자-브랜드 관계 형성에 미치는 영향 요인 분석 - 준사회적 상호작용 역할을 중심으로 -)

  • The rapid growth in the popularity of social media sites has meant that social media has become an important communication channel for brands. Brands create brand pages on social media to cultivate positive and strong relationships with consumers. This study seeks to enhance our understanding of how fashion brand pages in social media foster consumer-brand relationships by exploring the factors that affect the development of consumer-brand relationships. Drawing on the parasocial interaction theory, this study proposes parasocial interaction as a key factor of this process. Specifically, this study proposes four antecedents (vividness, interactivity, social presence, and focused attention) of consumers' parasocial interaction with brand pages, which further affects consumer responses in terms of affective engagement and brand loyalty. An online survey was administered with consumers who have followed and visited at least one fashion brand page via a social networking site (SNS). Structural equation modeling revealed that consumers' perceptions of vividness, interactivity, social presence, and focused attention on a fashion brand page positively affected their feelings towards parasocial interaction with the brand page, which in turn led to their affective engagement with the brand page and consequent brand loyalty. These findings suggest that consumers build relationships of varying degrees with brand pages in a similar manner to that with people, which leads to their development of a positive relationship with the brand. This study concludes with discussions and practical implications.

  • Purpose: This study aims to suggest directions for policy and practical intervention by analyzing the level of satisfaction and influencing factors in social relationships of the elderly at home and the elderly at facilities. Method: The impact of disaster literacy on social relationship satisfaction of home-based seniors and institutionalized seniors over 65 years of age was investigated. Result: This study found that the gender, spouse status, age, self-reported health, and ADL level for the elderly at home, and average monthly income and disaster literacy skill had a statistically significant impact on their satisfaction with social relationships. Conclusion: Through this study, various methods were proposed to improve the satisfaction of social relationships of the elderly at home and the elderly at facilities.

Knitwear Purchase Motives and Consumer Satisfaction (니트웨어 구매동기와 소비자만족에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to Investigate the relationships between knitwear purchase motive and female consumer satisfaction, and to reveal how knitwear purchase motives and demographic variables influence the consumer satisfaction. The subjects were 263 female college students and working women residing in metropolitan area of Seoul. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$-reliability coefficient, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Five dimensions of knitwear purchase motive were derived by factor analysis; expressive, others' influence/deficiency, quality/social, situation, and utility motive. Consumer satisfactions were classified into 3 dimensions; appearance, practicality, and quality satisfaction. The expressive motive had significant positive relationships with the satisfaction of appearance and quality satisfaction. The quality/social motive had positive relationships with the satisfaction of appearance, practicality, and quality. Utility motive had positive relationships with the satisfaction of appearance and practicality. Working women had higher situation motive and quality/social motive than the female college students had. The higher the age was, the higher the score on situation motive and quality/social motive were. The higher the social class was, the higher the score on expressive motive was. The higher the income was, the higher the score on appearance, practicality, and quality satisfaction were. The consumer satisfaction of knitwear was influenced most by the quality/social motive and next by the expressive motive, the income, and the utility motive in order.

Mediating Role of Social Network Support in the Relationship Between Depression and Online Social Networking (우울과 온라인 사회관계망의 관계에서 오프라인 사회관계망의 매개 역할)

  • Objective : This study investigated the effects of depression on online and offline social interactions among middle-aged and older adults with the aim of enhancing their social connectivity and mental well-being. Methods : Utilizing the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and the Lubben Social Network Scale-6, this study assessed depression and social relationships in 429 middle-aged adults. We explored the mediation effects of offline relationships on online interactions using path analysis and the Sobel test. Results : Significant links were found between depression and social relationships in a cohort of educated males averaging 63 years of age. Offline interactions mediated 32% of the influence of depression on online relationships, with strong model fit indices emphasizing the importance of offline social interactions. Conclusion : This study highlights the role of active engagement in online and offline networks in improving mental health and managing the impact of depression on social activity among older adults, helping prevent isolation.

  • This study intends to investigate the path that their language competence impacts on the quality of life through family relationships and social relationships. We conducted a questionnaire survey of marriage immigrants, living in metropolitan areas of Korea. The results are summarized as follows: First, including linguistic competence paths directly and indirectly through family relationships and social relationships, all paths that affect the quality of life has been noted. Secondly, in highly educated, high-income and spontaneous-marriage-immigrants population groups, relationships among linguistic competence, family relationships, social relationships and the quality of life were turned out to be relatively high than comparative groups. third, every groups investigated in this study have different paths that the linguistic competence influence the quality of life, but family relationship has a stronger effect on the quality of life than any other variables including linguistic competence.

Predicting Relationship Between Instagram Use and Psychological Variables During COVID-19 Quarantine Using Multivariate Techniques (다변량 분석 방법을 이용한 인스타그램 이용과 심리적 변인 간의 관계 예측: COVID-19로 인한 자가격리자를 중심으로)

  • Recently, the effect of using social media on psychological well-being has been highlighted. However, studies exploring factors that may predict the quality of social media relationships are relatively rare. The present study investigated whether social media activity and psychological states, such as loneliness and depression, can predict the quality of social media relationships during the COVID-19 quarantine period using a machine learning technique. Ninety-five participants completed a self-report survey on loneliness, Instagram activity, quality of social media relationships, and depression at different time points (during the self-isolation and after the release of self-isolation). Similarity analyses, including multidimensional scaling (MDS), representational similarity analysis (RSA), and classification analyses, were conducted separately at each point in time. The results of MDS revealed that time spent on social media and depression were distinguished from others in the first dimension, and loneliness and passive use were distinguished from others in the second dimension. We divided the data into two groups based on the quality of social media relationships (high and low), and we conducted RSA on each group. Findings indicated an interaction between the quality of the social media relationships and the situation. Specifically, the effect of self-isolation on the high-quality social media relationship group is more pronounced than that on the low-quality group. The classification results also revealed that the predictors of social media relationships depend on whether or not they are isolated. Overall, the results of this study imply that social media relationship could be well predicted when people are not in isolated situations.

Relationships among Self-Leadership, Social Support and Interpersonal Competence of Women Engineering Students (공과대학 여학생의 셀프리더십, 사회적지지, 대인관계 유능성 간의 관계)

  • This research sought to investigate the relationships among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence of women engineering students. First, women undergraduate students' differences respecting self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence were examined. Second, the relationships among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence were identified in terms of sub-factors of those three variables. Third, the effects of social support and interpersonal competence, as perceived by women undergraduate students, on self-leadership were explored. A total of 398 women undergraduate students from three universities in Korea responded to survey based on a three-variables scale. The findings were that, firstly, women engineering students scored lower in all of the three variables including self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence, and that these major differences were statistically significant. Secondly, a positive correlation among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence was identified. Thirdly, it was determined that self-leadership was affected significantly by social support and interpersonal competence. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with particular attention on education for promotion of self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence.

The Relationships among Body Image, Social Self Concept and Clothing Behaviors of Adolescents (청소년의 신체이미지, 사회적 자아개념과 의복행동간의 관계 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships among body image, social self concept, and clothing behaviors of adolescents, and to find out the differences of the relationships among these three variables by adolescents' sex and age variables. The research method was survey and the subjects were 656 male and female adolescents in Daejeon. The questionnaire consisted of 4 measuring instruments; body image, social self concept, clothing behaviors and demographic attribution. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, t-test, and path analysis, using SPSS program. The results were as follows. First, adolescents generally evaluated their bodies as middle level on their physical attractiveness and had positive social self concept. And high school students had more positive body image and social self concept than middle school students. Second, on clothing behaviors, 5 dimensions were emerged: clothing interest, psychological dependency of clothing, clothing ostentation, clothing conformity, and clothing satisfaction. Third, there were close correlations among body image, social self concept, and clothing behaviors; body image and social self concept had close interrelationship each other. However, body image had close relationship with only clothing satisfaction dimension, whereas social self concept had close relationships with all clothing behavior dimensions except clothing conformity. In conclusion, this results showed that body image, social self concept and clothing behaviors have close interrelations, therefore, clothing play an important role to enhance adolescents' body image and social self concept.

Working Alliance in Parent Consultation : Relationships with Mothers' Level of Self-concealment and Perception of Social Support (부모상담에서 어머니의 자기은폐 수준 및 지각된 사회적 지지와 작업동맹의 관계)

  • This research studied mothers of clients to examine relationships between level of self-concealment and level of perception of social support in the working alliance (goal concurrence, task agreement, and emotional relationships during parent consultation) as perceived by the therapist, Subjects were 87 mothers of clients and 42 therapists. The parent consultation sessions examined in this study ranged from the 3rd to the 12th session. Data were analyzed by simple regression and two-way ANOVA. Results showed that (1) the level of self-concealment affected all components of working alliance. (2) Perception of social support level affected all components of working alliance. (3) Interaction effects of levels of self-concealment with perception of social support were significant.

The Mediating Effects of Mothers' Management Strategies of Peer Relationship on the Relationship Between Maternal Beliefs on Social Development and Child's Peer Competence (어머니의 사회성 발달에 관한 신념이 유아의 또래유능성에 미치는 영향: 또래관계 관리전략의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Objective: This study examined the relationship between maternal beliefs on social development, management strategies of peer relations, and their child's peer competence in order to understand how to promote children's peer competence. Methods: Self-report questionnaires were used on 195 mothers with children four to years old. Data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation Analysis and Baron and Kenny's three-step regression. Results: First, there was a positive relationship between maternal beliefs on social development and their child's peer competence. Second, this study found that there were partial mediating effects of advice·support and supervision on the relationship between maternal beliefs on social development and children's social competence. Conclusion/Implications: The findings confirm that mothers' beliefs on social development and management strategies of peer relationships are proceeding factors for children's peer competence. Significant attention should be paid to mothers' beliefs on social development and management strategies of peer relationships for children's positive social development.
