The influence of Perceived Parental reject on the School Adjustment: Mediating effect of Aggression and Social anxiety (아동이 지각한 거부·제재 양육이 학교적응에 미치는 영향: 공격성과 사회불안의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship among children's perception of parenting style, their social anxiety, aggression, and school adjustment. A total of 267 children(male 117, female 150) and 10 homeroom teachers participated. Each child completed questionnaires on perception of parenting style, and social anxiety. Children's aggression and school adjustment was measured by their homeroom teachers' reports. The results of the structural equation model showed that children's perception of parenting style high in rejection and control significantly influenced aggression as well as school adjustment, but didn't influence social anxiety. Both parenting style high in rejection and control and aggression had significant effect on school adjustment. Our results showed that parenting style high in rejection and control directly influenced school adjustment, and mediated by their aggression.

Effect of Self-Esteem, Ego-Resilience, Social Support on Nursing student's Adjustment to College (간호대학생의 자존감, 자아탄력성, 사회적지지가 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate level of Self-Esteem, Ego-Resilience, Social Support and School Adjustment and to explore the factors that contribute to the school adjustment of nursing students. Subjects were 437 nursing students of three different college which are located in Taegu city. The survey was conducted from October 9th to November 27th. 2011. The result indicated that the higher Self-Esteem, the higher Ego-Resilience and the higher Social Support are the better School Adjustment to nursing student. And it was found that the effects of Self-Esteem, Ego-Resilience and Social Support on School Adjustment was 40.4% and Self-Esteem had the greatest influences on their school adjustment in nursing students. According to the results of this study, we need to consider student's self-esteem in nursing curriculum and prepare to develop programs for advancement of self-esteem to help nursing students' School Adjustment.

Children's Parent-related Stress, Social Support and School Adjustment according to Self-esteem of Children with Handicap & Nonhandicap Parents (장애부모 아동과 일반아동의 자아존중감에 따른 부모관련 스트레스, 사회적 지원 및 학교적응)

  • This study investigates the differences in parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment according to self-esteem of children with disabled and non-disabled parents. The data were collected from 176 students between 4th and 6th grade in Chungbuk area. For a data analysis, mean, frequency, percent, three-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation were used. The results show that children's perceived parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment are varied according to their self-esteem. Those with higher self-esteem were found to have tusker perception level in social support and school adjustment. On the contrary, they were found to have lower level in parent-related stress. The findings indicate further that girls have a closer relationship with their teachers than boys and that children with disabled parents have a closer relationship with their teachers than those with non-disabled parents. However, as opposed to prediction, parental disability itself caused no difference in the level of parent-related stress.

Effects of mentoring program of college life adapting in freshman students (멘토링이 대학 신입생의 학교생활 적응에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose. The effect of mentoring program on the adaptability of college students to occupational therapy freshmen. Method. Pre-post-test design was performed, and 20 experimental group were selected. Six students in the senior grade of occupational therapy, who can serve as a mentor to experimental groups, were selected from March 28, 2017 to April 26, 2017 conducted a mentoring program. They used BDI, SACQ, Interpersonal relation test. Result. The results of this study are as follows. The mentoring program was effective in improving the adaptation of college students to school life. It was found that the mentoring program was effective in major adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment and academic adjustment. Conclusion. The mentoring program had a significant effects on major adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment and academic adjustment in occupational therapy college freshman.

Late Effects, Social Adjustment, and Quality of Life in Adolescent Survivors of Childhood Leukemia (백혈병 생존 청소년의 신체적.정서적 후유장애, 사회적응 및 삶의 질)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the late effects, social adjustment, and quality of life in adolescents who had been completely treated for childhood leukemia and their parents. Methods: Participants consisted of 41 pairs of adolescent survivors (13-18 years) and their parents. Parents checked for their child's physical late effects. The Korean Version of Post-Traumatic Symptoms for psychological late effects, social functioning questionnaire for social adjustment and the PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales for quality of life were completed by adolescents and parents. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Results: Twenty out of 41 adolescents had one or more physical late effects. Adolescents showed more serious psychological late effect than parents. Five children and seven parents had above cut-off scores and they were considered the high risk group for posttraumatic symptoms. Parent-reported scores were significantly higher than child-reported scores in terms of social adjustment and emotional functioning of quality of life. Low school functioning in adolescents was associated with physical late effects. Conclusion: The results indicate that long-term and systematic management for childhood leukemia survivors affect positive social adjustment and can further improve quality of life.

The Effects of Social Support on School Adjustment of the Children Who Were Abused by Their Parents (사회적 지지가 부모로부터 학대를 경험한 아동의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze how social supports, such as family, teachers, and friends, affect the school adjustment of children who were abused by their parents, and suggest the interventional solutions in order to improve the social support system and school adjustment. 692 children, aged 4 to 6 in primary schools in Busan, were chosen for the survey and all of them are currently under children's service. Among the respondents, 485 children (70.1%) have experienced abuse, and neglect was the most frequent abuse experienced among them. Neglected children were influenced by teachers, families and friends' support in terms of social support for school adjustments. However, the emotionally abused children were influenced by families, teachers and friends in terms of social support for school adjustments. In addition, children who experienced physical abuse have been influenced by families and teachers'support. Support from friends has no meaning for them. As a result, this paper suggests that an effective interventional solution will be necessary for the school adjustment of abused children. The effective interventional solutions are firstly that neglected children require a high level of attention from their teachers and teachers should encourage parents with parental education and counseling to be helpful for their children. Secondly, emotionally abused children require strong family support through parents'education for child development and caring support programs. Finally, physically abused children need caring programs which develop supportive relationship skills both with parents and teachers for their adjustment in school.

The Effects of Social Relations on School Adjustment in the Middle School Students: the Mediating Effect of Stress Coping Style (중학생의 사회적 관계가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향: 스트레스 대처방식의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study was to examine the effects of social relations on school adjustment of in the middle school students on the mediating effect of stress coping style. The data of 3,406 middle school students in the study on '2016 Measurements of Korean Youth Competence and International Comparative Study III' by the NYPI were analysed. For data analysis, reliability analysis, correlation among variables, analysis of multiple linear regression analysis were conducted. The results of the study were: (1) social relations were found a key factor affecting the school adjustment of middle school students, (2) their social relations affected stress coping style, (3) stress coping style affected school adjustment, (4) stress coping style was proved to have the mediating effect between social relations and school adjustment. In conclusion, the implications and limitations were suggested for future research.

The relationship between social capital of adolescents in out-of-home care and their self-reliance: Focusing on the mediating effects of school adjustment (가정외보호청소년의 사회적자본이 학교적응을 매개로 자립의지에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to examine the mediating effects of school adjustment on the relationship between social capital and self-reliance of adolescents in out-of-home care(institutional care, foster care, and group homes). For this study, a total of 358 middle and high school students(13 to 19 years) were recruited among adolescents in care nationwide. Collected data were analyzed by using the structural equation modeling analysis. A bootstrapping method was utilized to examine the mediating effects. The results showed that social capital of the adolescents in out-of-home care was not directly related to self-reliance. However, complete mediation was found through school adjustment in the relationship between social capital and self-reliance. This indicates that social capital of the adolescents in care was significantly related to self-reliance only through school adjustment. Based on the results, policy and practice implications for increasing the levels of social capital, school adjustment, and self-reliance of adolescents in care were discussed.

The Relationship Between Social Stigma and Psychosocial Adjustment in Out-of-School Youth: The Moderating Effects of Self-concept Clarity (학교 밖 청소년의 사회적 낙인과 심리사회적 적응 간의 관계: 자기개념 명확성의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of social stigma on psychosocial adjustment in out-of-school youth and the moderating effects of self-concept clarity on the relationship between social stigma and psychosocial adjustment. The subjects in this study were out-of-school youth who resided in the city of Busan, on whom a survey was conducted. The findings of the study were as follows: First, social stigma was found to have exercised a negative influence on self-concept clarity. Second, social stigma was found to have exercised a negative influence on psychosocial adjustment. Third, self-concept clarity was found to have exercised a negative influence on psychosocial adjustment. Fourth, self-concept clarity was found to have had moderating effects on the relationship between social stigma and psychosocial adjustment. This study is of significance in that it attempted to seek ways of improving the psychosocial adjustment of out-of-school youth and urged offering counseling intervention geared toward boosting self-concept clarity by analyzing the moderating effects of self-concept clarity on the relationship between social stigma and psychosocial adjustment.

Relevant Variables of Children's School Adjustment (아동의 학교생활적응 관련 변인 연구)

  • Variables studied in relation to children's school adjustment were child's sex, grade, and ego-resilience maternal employment, parents' age, parents' academic background, mother's emotional expressiveness, and monthly household income and perception of social support. Subjects were 548 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and their mothers. Results showed that children's school adjustment varied by child's grade in school and ego-resilience, parents' age, father's academic background, mother's emotional expressiveness and monthly household income. Children with higher ego-resilience, whose mothers showed more positive emotional expressiveness and who perceived more social support from peers, family, and teachers showed higher adjustment to school life. Among these, support of peers was the most significant variable.
