  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to introduce the main concepts of statistical testing and effect size and to provide researchers in nursing science with guidance on how to calculate the effect size for the statistical analysis methods mainly used in nursing. Methods: For t-test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, regression analysis which are used frequently in nursing research, the generally accepted definitions of the effect size were explained. Results: Some formulae for calculating the effect size are described with several examples in nursing research. Furthermore, the authors present the required minimum sample size for each example utilizing G*Power 3 software that is the most widely used program for calculating sample size. Conclusion: It is noted that statistical significance testing and effect size measurement serve different purposes, and the reliance on only one side may be misleading. Some practical guidelines are recommended for combining statistical significance testing and effect size measure in order to make more balanced decisions in quantitative analyses.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the usage of the attached facilities of the church for the community services according to the church size. For the questionnaire 50 pasters who are in charge of the church that has over 300 church members were selected in Daejeon Chungnam Province. The results of this study were as follows; the kinds of attached facilities of the church do not increase by the church size, but in case of the middle size and the big size churches, the pressure of opening the attached facilities of the churches is stronger than that of small size churches. Almost all the pasters want to open the attached facilities of the churches for the community services, but the expectation of the result were different by the church size. Most of the pasters of the small size and big size churches think that the attached facilities of the church were very important for the growth of the church. Otherwise most of the pasters of the middle size churches do not agree with it.

  • This study was performed to analyze the wearing practice and the purchasing characteristics of brassieres in order to offer basic data to produce superior brassiere and to improve the wearing comfort. The questionnaire were 146 Korean college female students. For data analysis, descriptive analysis, crosstabs, factor analysis and one-way ANOVA were used. The results were as follows, first, most subjects didn't know the sizing system of brassiere and their own breast size. So the degree of satisfaction of wearing brassiere was low than subjects who knew their own breast size. And they replied that the most unsatisfaction factor was brassiere size. Second, when subjects decided to purchase a brassiere they considered size, design, color, cost, fabric and brand and so on. Among them size and design were considered the most important. Third, the subjects who wear brassiere all day long, they considered wearing comfort and cost rather than design and collar. Therefore, the markets with brassieres would be able to segmented based on consumers' characteristics. Firth, the subjects were dissatisified at size, the taking off wire and shape modification after washing. And they requested the development of various size, fabric and cost improvement and fittness of brassieres. These results imply that to improve the wearing comfort of brassiere, it is so important to produce and develop various types of size first of all. And consumers should know size system of brassiere and their own breast size.

  • There has been increasing attention on sample size requirements in peer reviewed medical literatures. Accordingly, a statistically-valid sample size determination has been described for a variety of medical situations including diagnostic test accuracy studies. If the sample is too small, the estimate is too inaccurate to be useful. On the other hand, a very large sample size would yield the estimate with more accurate than required but may be costly and inefficient. Choosing the optimal sample size depends on statistical considerations, such as the desired precision, statistical power, confidence level and prevalence of disease, and non-statistical considerations, such as resources, cost and sample availability. In a previous paper (J Vet Clin 2012; 29: 68-77) we briefly described the statistical theory behind sample size calculations and provided practical methods of calculating sample size in different situations for different research purposes. This review describes how to calculate sample sizes when assessing diagnostic test performance such as sensitivity and specificity alone. Also included in this paper are tables and formulae to help researchers for designing diagnostic test studies and calculating sample size in studies evaluating test performance. For complex studies clinicians are encouraged to consult a statistician to help in the design and analysis for an accurate determination of the sample size.

  • Generally, the size of our recreation sites is selected through use demand at the peak day. At same time, scale economic and diseconomic are applied to a recreation site. If you are a rational decision-maker, you would like to select the size of your park at profit-maximization point. This study is the first try for modelling a Gain-Loss by the size options of a theme park. For testing the validity of a financial model to select the size of theme parks. Ever-Land, Seoul-Land, Dream-Land's operating size was analyzed. By the size options, the revenue of each park was compared with cost. The profit-maximization point and break-even point of each park were found. Ever-Land and Dream-Land's size was selected between the profit-maximization point and the break-even point. In contrast with Ever-Land and Dream-Land's, Seoul-Land's was selected upper the break-even point. To increase the utility of this model in selecting the size of a theme park, a decision-maker must keep in mind a few limits of this study. That is, 1) this model can not be applied at public parks. 2) Sometimes the others can be more important than financial revenue and cost. Finally, there is the validity of Gain-Loss Model in estimating only the financial revenues and costs through the size options.

  • Since July 2007, the government has banned the use of the existing non-legal measurement units, and has forced us to use the unified legal measurement. Therefore, the existing clothing size unit also has been changed into centimeter dimensions from inches. However, consumers have been familiar to used to the traditional inches unit. So they have the confusion to directly survey the size table sign for clothing or to contact the employee when purchasing clothing. By the current size table sign the customers can compare the inches unit and centimeters unit, but they are difficult to see it. Therefore, there is necessary to improve the size table sign by the way that can be easy to be found and seen by consumers is given to the clothing corners. In this research, three improved size table signs were developed. And they were evaluated by the consumers in terms of preferences and awareness of them. Eventually, the best size table sign was selected. From this result, if the large-discount mart use the best improved size table sign on behalf of the current one, the problems of existing size table sign will overcome and improve customer satisfaction.

  • This paper proposes a real-time dynamic storage allocation algorithm QSHF(quick-segregated-half-fit) that provides various memory allocation policies. that manages a free block list per each word size for memory requests of small size good(segregated)-fit policy that manages a free list per proper range size for medium size requests and half-fit policy that manages a free list per proper range size for medium size requests and half-fit policy that manages a free list per each power of 2 size for large size requests. The proposed algorithm has the time complexit O(1) and makes us able to easily estimate the worst case execution time(WCET). This paper also suggests two algorithm that finds the proper free list for the requested memory size in predictable time and if the found list is empty then finds next available non-empty free list in fixed time. In order to confirm efficiency of the proposed algorithm we simulated the memory utilization of each memory allocation policy. The simulation result showed that each policy guarantees the constant WCET regardless of memory size but they have trade-off between memory utilization and list management overhead.

  • Poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) microspheres containing ovalbumin (OVA) as a model protein drug were prepared by double emulsification method, and various conditions such as mixing rate, volume of outer phase and isopropyl alcohol concentration in outer phase during secondary emulsification were observed to control the size of microspheres. In addition, entrapment efficiency of OVA and protein denaturation were also evaluated. As the rate of stirring was increased, the size of particles was decreased. But excessive stirring increased the particle size of microspheres. In a preparation condition of small volume of outer phase, the particle size was decreased but the entrapment efficiency was increased. Adding isopropyl alcohol to outer phase decreased the size of particles, but increased the entrapment efficiency. Microparticles should have smaller size than $10\;{\mu}m$ to be uptaked by Peyer's patch in small intestine. High speed of mixing and relatively small volume of outer phase are needed to reduce the size. In addition, appropriate amount of isopropyl alcohol in outer phase also plays an important role in size reduction of PLGA microspheres.

  • The ferromagnetic resonance and other magnetic properties dependence on $Ni^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ ratio and crystallite size were investigated for nano nickel ferrite ($NiFe_2O_4$). The crystallite size was controlled by controlling the nickel content in the starting material solution. The XRD and TEM were utilized to measure the crystallite size through Scherrer formula and particle size respectively. The most frequent particle sizes were lower than crystallite size, which ranged from 16.5 to 44.65 nm. The general behavior of M-H loop shapes and parameters showed superparamagnetic one. The saturation magnetization had a maximum value at $Ni^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ molar ratio equal to 0.186. The FMR signals showed, generally, broad linewidths, where the maximum width and minimum resonance field were for the sample of the lowest crystalline size. Furthermore, FMR resonance field shows linear dependence on crystalline size. The fitting relation was estimated to express this linear dependency on the base of behavior coincidence between particle size and the inverse of saturation magnetization. The given interpretations to understand the intercept and the slope meanings of the fitted relation were based on Larmor equation, and inhomogeneous in the anisotropy constant.
