  • This paper reports the deposition of a metal line using a multilayer stack and laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) using a low cost continuous wave blue laser with a wavelength of 450 nm. The donor structure was composed of a light-to-heat (LTH) layer, a release layer, and a transfer layer in series. Amorphous silicon as the LTH layer absorbs photon energy and converts it to heat. A release layer was melted so that a silver transfer layer would be transferred to the receiver substrate. The transferred silver layer showed reasonable physical and electrical characteristics. A low cost fine linewidth metal layer could be achieved using this modified LIFT technique and blue laser.

  • Cu-Ag powder having Core-Shell structure was prepared from by electroless plating method using agents such as $AgNO_3$, $NH_{4}OH$, Hydroquinone. Ag coated copper powders were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDX). The silver coating layer of copper powder was affected from various reaction conditions such as molar ratio of $NH_{4}OH$, $AgNO_3$, and pulp density. Free silver was generated below 0.1M or 0.3M and above of $NH_{4}OH$ mole ratio. Silver coating layer thickened as addition of $AgNO_3$. When the pulp density reached 12% with 0.2M $NH_{4}OH$, and 0.15M $AgNO_3$ at $4^{\circ}C$, silver was homogeneously distributed around the copper particles and free silver particles were not generated.

  • The special properties of silver are often indispensable in the manufacture of advanced materials. Therefore, it is of importance to develop a process to recover silver which is necessary for the production of advanced materials from diverse resources. In this manuscript, the developed processes for the leaching of silver from diverse resources are reviewed. For this purpose, the advantages and disadvantages of using some inorganic acids (nitric and sulfuric acid) and their mixture with other oxidizing agents (ozone, oxygen, hydrogen peroxide and ferric ion) were investigated. Moreover, the leaching of silver with thiourea and thiosulfate was compared over those by inorganic acids in terms of environmental effect.

  • Solvent extraction is an important process to recover pure gold and silver from various leaching solutions. The present work reviews the aqueous chemistry and solvent extraction separation of gold (I, III) and silver (I) from several leaching systems such as cyanide, thiocyanate, thiosulfate, thiourea and chloride medium. The extraction and separation behavior of gold (I, III) and silver (I) by various single and mixtures was compared on the basis of extraction reaction and the selectivity from these mediums. The chloride medium is recommended for the separation of gold and silver by solvent extraction in terms of extraction and stripping efficiency.

  • In this paper, the recovery and nanoparticle synthesis of Ag from low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) by-products are studied. The effect of reaction behavior on Ag leaching conditions from the LTCC by-products is confirmed. The optimum leaching conditions are determined to be: 5 M $HNO_3$, a reaction temperature of $75^{\circ}C$, and a pulp density of 50 g/L at 60 min. For the selective recovery of Ag, the [Cl]/[Ag] equivalence ratio experiment is performed using added HCl; most of the Ag (more than 99%) is recovered. The XRD and MP-AES results confirm that the powder is AgCl and that impurities are at less than 1%. Ag nanoparticles are synthesized using a chemical reduction process for recycling, $NaBH_4$ and PVP are used as reducing agents and dispersion stabilizers. UV-vis and FE-SEM results show that AgCl powder is precipitated and that Ag nanoparticles are synthesized. Ag nanoparticles of 100% Ag are obtained under the chemical reaction conditions.

  • To improve photocatalytic efficiency, graphene/Ag/TiO2 nanotube catalyst was synthesized, and its surface characteristics and photocatalytic activity investigated. For deposition of Ag nanoparticles on the TiO2 nanotubes, a polymer compound containing CH3COOAg/poly(L-lactide) was utilized, and the silver particles were precipitated by reducing the silver ions during the annealing process. Graphene deposition on the Ag/TiO2 nanotubes was achieved using an electrophoretic deposition process. Based on the dye degradation results, it was determined that the photocatalytic efficiency was significantly affected by deposition of silver particles and graphene on the TiO2 catalyst. Highly efficient destruction of the dye was obtained with the new graphene/Ag/TiO2 nanotube photocatalyst. This may be attributed to a synergistic effect of the graphene and Ag nanoparticles on the TiO2 nanotubes.

  • Ag925, silver with added copper, is popular alloy due to its low price. However, it has a difficult to use because of the low corrosion resistance. In various alloys, neodymium (Nd) works as an element to improve corrosion resistance by reacting with interstitial elements in the alloy. When 1.5 wt. % Neodymium was added to Ag925, the potential on the activated polarization in a potentiodynamic polarization test was increased from -0.15 V to -0.05 V. Ag925 with added neodymium showed the passivation after activation polarization. But When the potential increased around 50 mV, the current density is increased to 3 × 10-3. Ag925 with the 1.5 wt. % Nd had the low corrosion rate.

  • It is expected that the inkjet technology offers prospect for reliable and low cost manufacturing of FPD (Flat Panel Display). This inkjet technology also offers a more simplified manufacturing process for various part of the FPD than conventional process. For example, recently the novel manufacturing processes of color filter (C/F) in LCD, or RGB patterning in OLED by inkjet printing method have been developed. This elaborates will be considered as the precious point of manufacturing process for the mass production of enlarged-display panel with a low price. On this point of view, we would like to review the status of inkjet technology in FPD, with some results on forming micro line by inkjet patterning of suspension type silver nano ink as below. We have studied the inkjet patterning of synthesized aqueous silver nano-sol on interface-controlled ITO glass substrate. Furthermore, we designed the conductive ink for direct inkjet patterning on bare ITO glass substrate. The first, the highly concentrated polymeric dispersant-assisted silver nano sol was prepared. The high concentration of batch-synthesized silver nano sol was possible to 40 wt%. At the same time the particle size of silver nanoparticles was below $10{\sim}20nm$. The second, the synthesized silver nano sol was inkjet - patterned on ITO glass substrate. The connectivity and width of fine line depended largely on the wettability of silver nano sol on ITO glass substrate, which was controlled by surfactant. The relationship was understood by wetting angle. The line of silver electrode as fine as $50{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$ was successfully formed on ITO glass substrate. The last, the direct inkjet-patternable silver nano sol on bare ITO glass substrate was designed also.
