This study was carried out experimentally on the production and properties of silicon nanopowders characteristics using a transferred type arc plasma apparatus. To investigate the properties of silicon nanopowder, the purity of argon gas(99.999%, 99.9%) and the partial pressure ratio of nitrogen gas(0~90%) were varied. The total pressure in chamber is 400Torr and the silicon chunk amount used as raw material is 300g. The power supplied to the cathode to generate arc plasma was 9~12kW/h, and the electrode was made of tungsten and graphite with a diameter of 13mm. The particle size, impurity elements and powder evaporation rate of the silicon powder were analyzed using the XRD, FE-SEM, TEM and electronic scale. According to the purity of argon gas, the silicon evaporation rate and the particle size were similar, and impurities were generated more in the case of 99.9% purity than 99.999%. When argon gas and nitrogen gas were mixed in the chamber, the silicon evaporation rate and particle size increased as the partial pressure ratio of nitrogen gas increased. In particular, when the partial pressure ratio of nitrogen gas was 80%, the silicon evaporation rate 80g/h, and the particle size was about 80~100nm.

The temporal variation of a secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$ coefficient) of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) was investigated in a dc silane plasma. Estimated ${\gamma}$ coefficients have a value of 2.73 ${\times}$ 10$^{-2}$ on the pure aluminum electrode and 1.5 ${\times}$ 10$^{-3}$ after 2 hours deposition of -Si:H thin films on a cathode. It showed an abrupt decrease for about 30 minutes before saturation. The variation of the ${\gamma}$ coefficient was estimated as a function of the thin film thickness, and the film thickness was about 80 nm after 30 minutes deposition time. These results are compared with the results of a computer simulation for ion penetration into a cathode.
Boron doped fullerene $C_{60}$ ($B:C_{60}$) films were prepared by the thermal evaporation of $C_{60}$ powder using argon plasma treatment. The morphology and structural characteristics of the thin films were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) and x-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochemical application of the boron doped fullerene film as a coating layer for silicon anodes in lithium ion batteries was also investigated. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements were applied to the $B:C_{60}$ coated silicon electrodes at a scan rate of $0.05\;mVs^{-1}$. The CV results show that the $B:C_{60}$ coating layer act as a passivation layer with respect to the insertion and extraction of lithium ions into the silicon film electrode.

Si clusters generated during the plasma chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process have a great influence on the quality of the fabricated films. In particular, in hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin films (a-Si:H) used for thin film solar cells, Si clusters are mainly responsible for light-induced degradation. In this study, we investigated the amount of clusters incorporated into thin films using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and specially designed cluster eliminating filters, and investigated the effect of the DC grid mesh in preventing cluster incorporation. Experimental results showed that as the applied voltage of the grid mesh, which is placed between the electrode and the QCM, decreased, the number of clusters incorporated into the film decreased. This is due to the electrostatic force from the grid mesh bias, and this method is expected to contribute to the fabrication of high-quality thin films by preventing Si cluster incorporation.
In this study, SiNx and Al2O3 thin film was manufactured using PECVD deposition process and applied to crystalline silicon solar cells, resulting in 16.7% conversion efficiency. The structural improvement experiment of the rear electrode resulted in a 1.7% improvement in conversion efficiency compared to the reference cell by reducing the recombination rate of minority carriers and increasing the carrier lifetime by forming a passivation layer consisting of SiNx and Al2O3 thin films through the PECVD process.
We have developed a synchronously switched cyclic capillary electrophoresis (CE) separator that is fabricated on a silicon substrate and glass containing reservoirs, Au electrode, and isolated channels. The advantage of a cyclic separator is the high resolution and ability to separate each sample to the designated reservoir from mixed samples. This approach makes it possible to reduce the supplied voltage and the total size. Another goal of this work is to introduce the methodolgy of electroosmosis flow(EOF) to silicon substrate and to separate DNA samples using a modified double-T injector.
The paper represents the design and fabrication of an electrostatic micro actuator with $p^+$,/TEX> Si cantilevers. The micro actuator consists of a plate suspended by four $p^+$,/TEX> silicon cantilevers and an electrode on a glass substrate. The $p^+$,/TEX> Si structure is fabricated by the boron diffusion process and the anisotropic wet etch process. The cantilevers of the micro actuator curl down because of the residual stress gradient in $p^+$,/TEX> silicon. When the electrostatic forec is applied to the $p^+$,/TEX> cantilevers, the vertical displacement of the plate can be achieved. The deflection of the cantilever due to the residual stress gradient and the vertical displacement by electrostatic force were calculated. The displacement of the plate was measured with a laser displacement meter for various input voltages and frequencies. The feasibility of the proposed micro actuator for the applications to optical pickup devices or optical communication devices was confirmed by the experiments.
A low voltage operated piezoelectric RF MEMS in-line switch has been realized by using silicon bulk micromachining technologies for advanced mobile/wireless applications. The developed RF MEMS in-line switches were comprised of four piezoelectric cantilever actuators with an Au contact metal electrode and a suspended Au signal transmission line above the silicon substrate. The measured operation dc bias voltages were ranged from 2.5 to 4 volts by varying the thickness and the length of the piezoelectric cantilever actuators, which are well agreed with the simulation results. The measured isolation and insertion loss of the switch with series configuration were -43dB and -0.21dB (including parasitic effects of the silicon substrate) at a frequency of 2GHz and an actuation voltage of 3 volts.
Due to their excellent mechanical durability and high electrical conductivity, carbon and silicon composites are potentially suitable anode materials for Li-ion batteries with high capacity and long lifespan. Nevertheless, the limitations of the composites include their poor ionic diffusion at high current densities during cycling, which leads to low ultrafast performance. In the present study, seeking to improve the ionic diffusion using hydrothermal method, electrospinning, and carbonization, we demonstrate the unique design of excavated carbon and silicon composites (EC/Si). The outstanding energy storage performance of EC/Si electrode provides a discharge specific capacity, impressive rate performance, and ultrafast cycling stability.
The screen-printing method is the most mature solar cell fabrication technology, which has the advantage of being faster and simpler process than other printing technology. A front metallization printed through screen printing influences the efficiency and manufacturing cost of solar cell. Recent technology development of crystalline silicon solar cell is proceeding to reduce the manufacturing cost while improving the efficiency. Therefore, screen printing requires process development to reduce a line width of an electrode and decrease shading area. In this paper, we will discuss the development trend and prospects of screen-printing metallization using metal paste, which is currently used in manufacturing commercial crystalline silicon solar cells.
