Most of the way shape estimation method using reference sources assume that the reference sources are in the farfield. That is, the reference sources are assumed to be far from the array. However, in applications of the array with reference sources, the reference sources are not far from the way, so that in practical ocean environments, the conventional method using farfield source model fail to estimate the positions of the hydrophones. In this paper, based on the nearfield source model, a subspace-based array shape estimation method was proposed. In the proposed method, nearfield reference source is modeled using the differential time delay at each hydrophone, and nearfield parameters are derived. Using these parameters, a subspace-based array shape estimation method that generalizes the existing farfield subspace fitting method which can work regardless of the range of the source is proposed. The Cramer-Rao lower bound for the proposed method is investigated. The results of the numerical experiments indicate that the proposed method performs well in estimating the shape of a perturbed way regardless of the ranges of the reference sources.

This paper presents a selective interference alignment for cognitive radio system with spectrum leasing. The proposed method selects users who cause severe interference to other basestations that have required SINR. Since few users are selected to apply subspace interference alignment, the total complexity of the system is not high compared with that of the system who utilizes subspace interference alignment to all users. In addition, all users can transmit without considering interference. The computer simulation shows the proposed method exhibits 350% throughput enhancement at a two cell case, and 400% increase at a three cell case.

In this paper, we propose a new algorithm, so called the Signal Decorrelation via Virtual Translation of Array (SDVTA) algorithm, for estimating the directions of arrival(DOA's) of narrowband coherent signals incident on a general array. An effective procedure is composed of transforming the steering matrix of the original array into that of the virtually translated sensor array and taking the average of the transformed covariance matrices in order to decorrelate the coherent signals. The advantage of this approach is in that 1) it can estimate the DOA's of m-1 coherent signals(M : the number of array sensors) since the effective aperture size is never reduced. 2) a geometry of array is unrestricted for solving the narrowband coherency problem. 3) the efficiency of signal decorrelation does not depend on the phase differences between coherent signals unlike the Coherent Signal Subspace Method (CSM). Simulation results are illustrated to demonstrate the superior performance of this new algorithm in comparison with the normal MUSIC and examine the comparative performance with the various choices of the optimal transformation matrix under coherent signal environments.

In this paper, an efficient performance enhancement scheme for an adaptive antenna array under the flat and the frequency-selective Rayleigh fadings is proposed. The proposed signal enhancement scheme is the modified linear signal estimator which combines the rank N approximation by reducing noise eigenvalues(RANE) and Toeplitz matrix approximation(TMA) methods into the linear signal estimator. The proposed performance enhancement scheme is performed by not only reducing the noise component from the signal-plus-noise subspace using RANE but also having the theoretical property of noise-free signal using TMA. Consequently, the key idea of the proposed performance enhancement scheme is to greatly enhance the performance of an adaptive antenna array by removing all undesired noise effects from the post-correlation received signal. The proposed performance enhancement scheme applies at the Wiener maximal ratio combining(MRC) method which has been widely used as the conventional adaptive antenna array. It is shown through several simulation results that the performance of an adaptive antenna array using the proposed signal enhancement scheme is much superior to that of a system using the conventional method under several environments, i.e., a flat Rayleigh fading, a fast frequency-selective Rayleigh fading, a perfect/imperfect power control, a single cell, and a multicell.

This paper presents an alternative technique for DOA (direction-of-arrival) estimation. For generating a weight vector orthogonal to the signal subspace, a modified version of MES (minimum eigenvalue searching ) method is introduced. The performance of the proposed technique is compared to that of the conventional ED (eigen decomposition) method in terms of angle resolution for a number of snapshots during agiven observation period as well as various SNR's. In addition, the superiority of the suggested technique is shown, by analyzing the required computational load of the proposed MES and conventional ED method. A novel procedure of simplifying the MES proposed in [1] is presented on that purpose. Another advnatage of the proposed technique is that it is performed independently of the detection of the number of signal components, which makes it possible to estimate the DOA's of clusters consisting of infinite number of inseparable signal components.

This paper describes Active Noise Control (ANC) using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) Domain Least Mean Square (LMS) Method. DWT-LMS is one of the transform domain input decorrelation LMS and improves the convergence speed of adaptive filter especially when the input signal is highly correlated. Conventional transform domain LMS's use Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) because it offers linear band signal decomposition and fast transform algorithm. Wavelet transform can project the input signal into the several octave band subspace and offers more efficient sliding fast transform algorithm. In this paper, we propose Wavelet transform domain LMS algorithm and shows its performance is similar to DCT LMS in some cases using ANC simulation.
In this paper, the accuracy of the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of signal impinged on the uniform linear array (ULA) is investigated. The conventional beamformer and Capon’s beamformer categorized in beamformaing techniques as well as MUSIC (MUlti-pie Signal Classification) and ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Invariance Techniques) categorized in subspace- based methods are employed to estimate the DOAs. From the simulation result under uncorrelated environment, MUSIC can prominently distinguish the DOAs while the beamforming techniques cannot demonstrate the DOAs as clear as MUSIC does. Moreover, Uni-tary ESPRIT is employed to estimate the DOAs under uncorrelated signal conditions. By means of Uni-tary ESPRIT, the estimation has more accuracy with the computational-time reduction. In addition, it incorporates forward-backward averaging; thus Unitary ES-PRIT can overcome the problem of the coherent signal condition.

We propose an algorithm to update weight to use the mean square error method and mutual coupling matrix in a coherent channel. The algorithm proposed in this paper estimates the desired signal by using the updated weight. The updated weight is obtained by covariance matrix using mean square error and mutual coupling matrix. The MUSIC algorithm, which is direction of arrival estimation method, is mostly used in the desired signal estimation. The MUSIC algorithm has a good resolution because it uses subspace techniques. The proposed method estimates the desired signal by updating the weights using the mutual coupling matrix and mean square error method. Through simulation, we analyze the performance by comparing the classical MUSIC and the proposed algorithm in a coherent channel. In this case of the coherent channel for estimating at the three targets (-10o, 0o, 10o), the proposed algorithm estimates all the three targets (-10o, 0o, 10o). But the classical MUSIC algorithm estimates only one target (x, x, 10o). The simulation results indicate that the proposed method is superior to the classical MUSIC algorithm for desired signal estimation.

In this study, the geometrical setup of a turbine blade is tracked. A research-scale rotating turbine blade system is setup with a single 3-axes accelerometer mounted on one of the blades. The turbine system is rotated by a controlled motor. The tilt and rolling angles of the rotating blade under operating conditions are determined from the response measurement of the single accelerometer. Data acquisition is achieved using a prototype wireless sensing system. First, the Rodrigues' rotation formula and an optimization algorithm are used to track the blade rolling angle and pitching angles of the turbine blade system. In addition, the blade flapwise natural frequency is identified by removing the rotation-related response induced by gravity and centrifuge force. To verify the result of calculations, a covariance-driven stochastic subspace identification method (SSI-COV) is applied to the vibration measurements of the blades to determine the system natural frequencies. It is thus proven that by using a single sensor and through a series of coordinate transformations and the Rodrigues' rotation formula, the geometrical setup of the blade can be tracked and the blade flapwise vibration frequency can be determined successfully.

In this paper, we proposed the modified YL(Yi and Loizou) algorithm, using a VAD(voice activity detector) for enhancing speech corrupted by colored noise. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been compared to the YL algorithm and LS(Lee and Son, etc.) algorithm by computer simulation. The colored noises used in the experiment were a car noise and multi-talker babble from the AURORA data base and the used voices from the TIMIT data base. It is confirmed that the proposed algorithm shows better performance from SNR(signal to noise ratio) and SSD(speech spectral distortion) viewpoint over the previous two approach.
