Signal averaging technique to improve signal-to-noise ratio has widely been used in various fields, especially in electrophysiology. Estimation of the EP(evoked potential) signal using the conventional averaging method fails to correctly reconstruct the original signal under EEG(electroencephalogram) noise especial]y when the latency times of the evoked potential are not identical. Therefore, a technique based on the bispectrum averaging was proposed for recovering signal waveform from a set o noisy signals with variable signal dalay. In this paper an improved bispectrum estimation technique of the RP signal is proposed using a confidence thresholding of the EP signal in frequency domain in which energy distribution of the EP signal is usually not uniform. The suggested technique is coupled with the conventional bispectrum estimation technique such as least square method and recursive method. Some results with simulated data and real EP signal are shown.
A new algorithm for speech signal segmentation is proposed. This algorithm is based on finding successive similar frames belonging to a segment and represents it by an average spectrum. The speech signal is a slowly time varying signal in the sense that, when examined over a sufficiently short period of time (between 10 and 100 ms), its characteristics are fairly stationary. Generally this approach is based on finding these fairly stationary periods. Advantages of the. algorithm are accurate border decision of segments and simple computation. The automatic segmentations using frame averaging show as much as $82.20\%$ coincided with manually verified segmentation of CMU ARCTIC corpus within time range 16 ms. More than $90\%$ segment boundaries are coincided within a range of 32 ms. Also it can be combined with many types of automatic segmentations (HMM based, acoustic cues or feature based etc.).
A new scheme for sliding-mode control (SMC) of DC-DC converters with a constant switching frequency is proposed. The scheme is based on the averaging model and the output signal of the controller is $d^+$ or $d^-$ instead of the on or off signal of a direct sliding-mode (SM) controller or the continuous signal d = $u_{eq}$ of an indirect SM controller. Two approaches using the new scheme are also proposed and the design procedures for a buck converter are given in detail. The first approach called constant $d^+$ and $d^-$ SMC is simple, cost effective and dynamically fast. In order to improve the dynamic characteristics of the reaching phase and to alleviate chattering, the second approach called reaching law SMC is also presented. Analyses and simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

This paper presents block and timing diagrams of the DWA(Data Weighted Averaging) to optimize a feedback time delay of the sigma-delta modulator. Through the MATLAB modeling, the optimized coefficients of the integrators are obtained to design the modulator. The fully differential SC integrators, feedback DAC, 9-level quantizer, and DWA are designed by considering the nonideal characteristics of the modulator. The designed third-order multibit modulator is fabricated in a 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process. The modulator achieves 75dB signal-to-noise ratio and 74dB dynamic range at 1.2Vp-p 825kHz input signal and 52.8MHE sampling frequency.

In this paper, we propose new beamforming algorithm which overcomes signal cancellation effect even high cross correlation existing between target and interfering signal. Using the proposed method, we show that direction of arrival (DOA) of interfering signal can be estimated using correlation matrix and the cross-correlation can be eliminated in the correlation matrix of input signal. The proposed method gives high performance enhancement compared with the spatial averaging method in our computer simulation results.
Most of the conventional electrocardiowaphs foil to detect signals other than P-QRS-T due to the limited SNR and bandwidth. High-resolution electrocardiography(HRECG) provides better SNR and wider bandwidth for the detection of micro-potentials with higher frequency components such as vontricular late potentials(LP). We have developed a HRECG using uncorrected XYZ lead for the detection of LPs. The overall gain of the amplifier is 4000 and the bandwidth is 0.5-300Hz without using 60Hz notch filter. Three 16-bit A/D converters sample X, Y, and Z signals simultaneously with a sampling frequency of 2000Hz. Sampled data are transmitted to a PC via a DMA-controlled, optically-coupled serial communication channel. In order to further reduce the noise, we implemented a signal averaging algorithm that averaged many instances of aligned beats. The beat alignment was carried out through the use of a template matching technique that finds a location maximizing cross-correlation with a given beat tem- plate. Beat alignment error was reduced to $\pm$0.25ms. FIR high-pass filter with cut-off frequency of 40Hz was applied to remove the low frequency components of the averaged X, Y, and Z signals. QRS onset and end point were determined from the vector magnitude of the sigrlaIL and some parameters needed to detect the existence of LP were estimated. The entire system was designed for the easy application of the future research topics including the optimal lead system, filter design, new parameter extraction, etc. In the developed HRECG, without signal averaging, the noise level was less than 5$\mu$V$_rms RTI$. With signal averaging of at least 100 beats, the noise level was reduced to 0.5$\mu$V$_rms RTI$, which is low enough to detect LPs. The developed HRECG will provide a new advanced functionality to interpretive ECG analyzers.

Data-driven method for fault diagnostics system often use machine learning technique. To use such technique proper signal processing should be implemented such as time synchronous averaging (TSA) for ball bearing systems. However, for journal bearing diagnostics systems not much has been researched, and yet a proper signal processing method has not been studied. Therefore, in this research an optimal datum unit for a reliable journal bearing diagnostics system along with angular resampling process is being suggested. Before extracting time and frequency domain features, angular resampling is applied to each cycle of vibration data. As to preserve the characteristics of vibration signal, averaging method is replaced by finding the optimal datum unit which strengthens statistical characteristics of vibration signal. Then 20 features were extracted for various cases, and those features are being evaluated by two criteria, separability and classification accuracy.

This paper derives the symbol error probability for quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) with L-fold space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. Two combining techniques, maximal ratio combining(MRC) and selection combining(SC), are considered. The formula for MRC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel over a chi-square distribution with 2L degrees of freedom. The obtained formula overcomes the limitations of the earlier work, which has been limited only to deriving the symbol error rate(SER) of QAM with two branch MRC space diversity. The formula for SC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an AWGN channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to noise ratio among all of the diversity channels for SC space diversity has been reported yet. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity gain per additional branch decreases as the number of branches becomes larger. On the other hand, the performance of 16 QAM with MRC becomes much better than that of SC as the number of branches becomes larger. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general space diversity. These results can be used to determine the order of diversity to achieve the desired SER in land mobile communication system employing QAM modulation.

For the effective removal of artifacts and the extraction of an improved evoked potential response, we propose the averaging method usin gthe shrinkag eof wavelet coefficients. The wavelet analysis decomposes the measured evoked potentials into scale coefficients with low frequency components and wavelet coefficients with high ones as a resolution level, respectively. and in the course of synthesis evoked potentials, the presented method shrinks the wavelet coefficients, and then reproduces the evoked potentials, and lastly averages it. We measured visual evoked potentials to simulate the averaging method using the shrinkage of wavelet coefficients, and compared it with aveaged signal. As a result of simulations, the proposed method gets improved VEP about 0.2-1.6dB in comparison with the averaging method with daubechies wavelet in the resolution level four.

This study describes the accuracy improvement of the estimated angle using phase averaging in phase-comparison monopulse algorithm. In addition, to compensate the time-delay due to the phase averaging, we propose the time-delay compensation algorithm which uses the derivative of the estimated angle. These derivative is calculated by the curve fitting method. Using the real radar interferometer, we have verified that the phase averaging and time-delay compensation algorithms are effective in real-time signal processing application.
