The Influences of Burnout on Job Satisfaction on School Health Teachers (School Nurse): Focused on the Mediating Effects of Self-leadership (보건교사의 소진이 직무만족에 미치는 영향: 셀프리더십의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to identify the impact of burnout on job satisfaction of school health teachers (school nurses) and the mediating effects of self-leadership on the relationship between burnout and job satisfaction. Methods: The research is a cross-sectional survey. The participants were 131 school health teachers (school nurses) in Korea. Data was collected using a self-reporting questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, self-leadership, burnout, and job satisfaction. The collected data was analyzed through t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN (ver. 23). Results: Significant positive correlations were found between self-leadership and job satisfaction (r=.384, p<.001). Significant negative correlations were found between burnout and job satisfaction (r=-.748, p<.001) and between burnout and self-leadership (r=-.308, p<.001). The factors that enhance job satisfaction were found to be lower burnout and higher self-leadership. The results of the 3-step regression are as follows: First, burnout had a significant negative effect on self-leadership. Second, burnout had a significant negative effect on job satisfaction. Third, self-leadership had a significant positive effect on job satisfaction and had a mediating effect on the relationship between burnout and job satisfaction (Zab=3.271, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on these results, self-leadership is needed in order to raise job satisfaction and reduce burnout.

Finding the Causal Relationship between Self-Leadership Strategies, Academic Performance and Class Attendance Attitudes : Comparative Research between Korean and Indian Students

  • A number of organizations have had big interests in studies concerning leadership and in academic areas, in not only management but also psychology. Until now, leadership has been accentuated by managers or team leaders especially. Recently, however, the concept of self-leadership directing one's own activities through self-control or self-management is being focused on in practices and in academia. This study is to investigate the influence between self-leadership strategies and learning performance in IT classes mediated by attitude of attendance focused on the social science students in two universities (Korea (121 samples) and India (106 samples)). And this research tried to compare difference between two university students. Research results can give us direction of task-taking attitudes in firms or learning attitudes in teaching organizations and implications to human resource managers who are in charge of improving learning performance or productivity.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the moderating and mediating effects of self-leadership in the relationship between organizational culture and nurses' informatics competency. Methods: Participants in this study were 297 nurses from the cities of Busan and Ulsan. The scales of organizational culture, self-leadership and informatics competency for nurses were used in this study. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression were used for data analysis. Results: Nursing informatics competency of the participants was relatively low with a mean score 3.02. There were significant positive correlations between subcategories of perceived organizational culture, self-leadership and nursing informatics competency. Self-leadership was a moderator and a mediator between organizational culture and informatics competency. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, self-leadership promotion strategies to improve nursing informatics competency are needed.

A Study on related factors of nursing students' self-efficacy, self-leadership and academic performance (간호대학생의 자기효능감, 셀프리더십 및 학업수행 관련요인에 관한 연구)

  • This study aimed to find the related factors of nursing students' self-efficacy(including general self-efficacy and social self-efficacy), self-leadership and academic performance. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0. The general self-efficacy scores of the subjects in who're admitted according to aptitude, higher school grades, extroverts, and higher leadership were significantly higher than those who weren't. The social self-efficacy scores were significantly higher in younger ages, extroverts and higher leadership. Self-leadership was higher in those who're admitted according to aptitude. Academic performance was significantly higher in the females and higher school grades. Social self-efficacy was positively correlated with self-leadership, and negatively with academic performance. Explanation rate of sex, general self-efficacy and social self-efficacy on academic performance was 10.5%. These results can be applied as a basis for developing guidelines of nursing students' self-efficacy, self-leadership and academic performance after repeated studies.

The Moderating Effect of Self-leadership in Relationship between Self-image and Work Performance of Nurses (간호사의 자아상과 간호업무성과와의 관계에서 셀프리더십의 조절효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the research is to investigate the effect of self-image on work performance and controlling ability of self-leadership in relationship in between self-image and work performance. Methods: The data were collected from Mar 16th to April 15th 2009, a descriptive survey study was conducted with 140 nurses. Results: The hypothesis "Self image of nurse would affect on work performance" is supported ($R^2$=.335, p<.001). In the hypothesis of "Self-leadership would have controlling ability on self-image and work performance", as a result of regression analysis in independent variables of self-image(A) and self-leadership(B), adding relation of both variable($A{\times}B$) would increase in 36.6% (p<.05). Conclusion: Self-image of nurse was confirmed that it had positive effect on work performance and that it had moderating ability on relationship between self-image and work performance. The shaping and strategic operation are required to increase self-leadership and positive development on self-image of nursed.

The Influence of Personality Characteristics and Decision Making Type on Self-Leadership of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 성격특성과 의사결정유형이 셀프리더십에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of personality characteristics and decision making type on the self-leadership of nursing students. Methods: The participants were 336 nursing students using a self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There were significant positive correlations between self-leadership and extraversion (r=.50, p<.001), agreeableness (r=.22, p<.001), conscientiousness (r=.60, p<.001), openness to experience (r=.36, p<.001), and rational style (r=.47, p<.001). However the correlation between self-leadership and dependent style was significantly negative (r=-.11, p=.044). Conscientiousness (${\beta}$=.60, p<.001), extraversion (${\beta}$=.28, p<.001), and rational style (${\beta}$=.21, p<.001), openness to experience (${\beta}$=.18, p<.001), and degree of leadership level (${\beta}$=.10, p=.020) were identified as factors affecting self-leadership. The explanation power of this regression model was 50.0% and it was statistically significant (F=67.52, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that effective self-leadership programs should be developed by including conscientiousness, extraversion, openness to experience, and rational decision making.

Relationship of Self-leadership, Stress and Satisfaction in Clinical Practice of Nursing Students (간호대학생이 지각한 셀프리더십, 임상실습 스트레스 및 임상실습 만족도 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: In this study, the relationship between self-leadership, stress, and satisfaction among nursing students in clinical practice was examined. Method: The participants were 273 nursing students. Data collected from September to December 2010 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean scores for self-leadership ($3.72{\pm}.41$), stress ($3.45{\pm}.59$), and satisfaction ($3.11{\pm}.38$) in clinical practice were above average. Self-leadership was significantly different according to year, interpersonal relationships, and satisfaction with nursing as a major. Stress in clinical practice was significantly different according to gender, year, and health status. Satisfaction in clinical practice was significantly different according to year, interpersonal relationships, and satisfaction with nursing as a major. Significant correlations were found between self-leadership and satisfaction in clinical practice, and stress and satisfaction in clinical practice. Year, self-leadership, interpersonal relationships, and stress in clinical practice were factors influencing satisfaction in clinical practice (20.0%). Conclusion: These findings indicate that there is a need to improve self-leadership, and to lessen stress in clinical practice to improve nursing students' satisfaction with clinical practice. The above-mentioned results should be reflected in the development of effective teaching methods for clinical practice.

The Changes of Self-esteem and Leadership during Two Years in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 학년 진급에 따른 자아존중감과 리더십의 변화)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the changes of self-esteem and leadership scores in nursing students during two years. Method: The subjects were 233 nursing students in their first year in 2007, and 257 in their third year in 2009. Data were collected 2 times for the same subjects, in 2007 and 2009 respectively, with the same structured questionnaires. Result: Satisfaction for major and interpersonal relationships of nursing students was significantly increased in the third year over the first year. Self-esteem and leadership scores were significantly increased in the third year over the first year (t=5.48, p<.001, t=5.63, p<.001). Self-esteem and leadership scores increased significantly according to satisfaction degree, interpersonal relationship and year. Self-esteem was positively related to leadership (r=.50, p<.001). Conclusion: The result of this study may show the increase in self-esteem and leadership of nursing students relevant with their year of nursing. This finding suggests the importance of satisfaction and interpersonal relationships to increase self-esteem and leadership.

The Effects of Authentic Leadership on Leader Trust, Self Efficacy and Creative Behavior (진성 리더십이 상사 신뢰, 자기 효능감 및 창의적 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study includes: Firstly, to examine the effects of authentic leadership on leader trust, self efficacy, and creative behavior. Secondly, to examine the mediating effect of the leader trust, self efficacy on the relationship between authentic leadership and creative behavior. In order to verify the relationships and mediating effect, data were collected from convenient sample of 323 employees at small and medium enterprises in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongju city to test theoretical model and its hypotheses. All data collected from the survey were analyzed using with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. This study reports findings as followed: first, the relationship between the authentic leadership and the leader trust is positively related. Second, there was also a positive correlation between the authentic leadership and the self efficacy. Third, there was also a positive correlation between the authentic leadership and the creative behavior. Fourth, the relationship between the leader trust and the self efficacy is positively related. Fifth, there was also a positive correlation between the leader trust and the creative behavior. Sixth, there was also a positive correlation between the self efficacy and the creative behavior. Finally, the leader trust and self efficacy played as a partial mediator on the relationship between authentic leadership and creative behavior. Based on these findings, the limitations of the study and some directions for future studies were presented.
