  • Constitution means to combine the function into the body. It also includes the genetic factor and the environmental factor. Sasang Constitutional Medicine has the organized and unique ideas of the theory and the practice. So it is widly used in korea. But It has a problem to be popular. That's the objectification of Sasang constitution. There are so many studies to classify Sasang constitution analytic and objectively. I try to classify the studies to identify Sasang constitution objectively and check the problems. 1. The morphologic studies of Sasang Constitution are dividied into the figure and the face-speech through the morphologics and the phonetics. We need to standardize and make a simple method through computer software. 2. The study of the mind is used by the questionnaire about the telent, the character, and the greed each constitution. Recently QSCC II computer software is made and is used at many clinics in Korea. We need to recheck children and Taeyangin. 3. The symptom and the disease are subjective. So the study of them is usually used by some diagnostic equipments. But these have to be revaluated on the view of Oriental Medicine and Sasang Constitutional Medicine and try to study the objectification of Sasang constitution. And then we must try to objectify Sasang constitutional disease. 4. Disease and symptoms have to be studied much more about the mechanism and the relation. The study of medicine was done the way of the homeopathy using EAV. But that had some problems. So it should depend on the new science.

  • View of Lee Je-ma's "Hyung Sang" is one of the methods of classification of Constitution. In this study, I studied the "Hyung Sang" as medical histologically, and get the results as follow; 1. "The book of changes" is classified to the sciences of divination of "Sang-Soo", which is consisted with "Sang (image)" and "Soo (number)", and "Wae-Ri", which explained the meaning of a divination sign as "nature" or virtue of divination sign. 2. Lee Je-ma is accepted the concepts of science of divination of "Wae-Ri" based on Confucianism in the discription of "The book of changes". And also he established the new "Sasang Constitutional Medicine" theory based on the "Joung-Young". 3. "The book of changes" is discribed phenomena as "Sang" and "Soo" involving "Three elements", which are heaven, earth, and individual, and "Yin-Yang". Lee Je-ma accepted the concept of "Sang" in science of divination of "Sang-Soo" and established the "Four elements", which are affairs, mind, body, and objects, constituting "Three elements". 4. In the method of "Sasang" type classifying, Lee Je-ma used "Four elements", which attach importance to structure and function of human body rather than "Yin-Yang", which explain relatively.

As for taste preference, people of the Taeeum and Soyang body constitution types tended to prefer spicy tastes while those of the Taeyang and Soeum body constitution types preferred sweet tastes. For eating habits, people of the Taeeum and Soyang body constitution types stated that they eat food relatively quickly and eat food until they feel full. They also said they normally overeat when they get stressed. The eating habits for the four groups, there was a significant difference(p<0.05) between body constitution types and eating habits. We hope that our research will provide the food service industry with helpful and new information.

  • VNTR and STR DNA typing are typical genetic analysis methods which are widely used in DNA-fingerprinting for forensic science and other genetic research purposes. In this study, genomic DNA of different constitutions(Taeun, Soyang and Soum) were analyzed by VNTR and STR DNA typing to provide scientific and objective references for Sasang Medicine. It was found out in this study that VNTR-MCT118 and YNZ22 loci showed too many different variation of allele distribution and numbers for each constitution. Therefore, it is thought that VNTR typing can not used for genetic classification study for Sasang Constitution which classifies human body into 4 groups. However, vWA locus, one of the STR loci investigated in this study, showed slight difference in allele distribution for each different constitution.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine differences in mental health indices such as self-compassion, trait anxiety, and depression, and color preference based on Sasang Constitution type. This study also explored the relationships among self-compassion, trait anxiety, and depression. 205 adults were surveyed for participants of this study. A Two-Step Questionnaire (TS-QSCD) was conducted to diagnose Sasang Constitution such as Tae-yangin, Tae-yinin, So-yangin, and So-yinin. Also, scales for self-compassion, trait anxiety, depression level, and color preference were utilized for measures. The results showed that among Sasang Constitutional groups, Ta-yangin had a higher level of self-compassion and lower trait anxiety than So-yinin. Furthermore, in relationships among mental health indices, trait anxiety and depression tendency were lower with higher self-compassion. No significant differences were revealed in depression level and color preference based on Sasang constitution. Finally, implications of this study for mental health were suggested and limitations were discussed.

  • In this study, we compared the effect of the Therapeutic Diet and Constitutional Diet on the subjects whose total number is 65 and has hyperlipidemia by checking the serum lipids 3weeks later, 6weeks later. In the Taeumin, there is a little difference in the two Dietary Therapies. Therapeutic Diet shows significant decrease in the total-cholesterol(6weeks later), triglyceride(6weeks later). (P<0.05) In that point Therapeutic Diet shows better effect than Constitutional Diet. Constitutional Diet shows better effect in the phospholipid by significant decrease in the phospholipid(6weeks later).(P<0.01) In the Soyangin group, Therapeutic Diet shows no difference, but Constitutional Diet shows significant decrease in the total lipid(3weeks, 6weeks later), phospholipid(3weeks later).(P<0.05).
