  • Variable sampling interval(VSI) and variable sample size(VSS) control charts vary the sampling rate for the next sample depending on the current chart statistic. This paper develops EWMA charts with the VSI and VSS features, and investigates the effectiveness of these charts in context of an economic model. The economic properties of these charts are evaluated by using Markov chain methods. The model contains cost parameters which allow the specification of the costs associated with sampling, false alarms, and operating off target. This economic model can be used to quantify the cost saving that can be obtained by using control charts with the VSI and VSS features instead of with the fixed sampling rate(FSR) feature, and can also be used to gain insight into the way that control charts with the VSI and VSS features should be designed to achieve optimal economic performance. The economic performance of X charts with the VSI and VSS features is also considered.

  • When waterlogged wood dries up, it shrinks largely. And it is hard to recover original shape. Therefore it happens to lose the value of wood remains frequently. This paper studied how far dried waterlogged wood can recover original shape. Shape recovering course and extent are thoroughly investigated after waterlogged wood of Pinus densiflora, Quercus serrata and Styrax japonica oven-dries and instills varieties of test solution. At 1- step, oven-dried samples infiltrated by chlorous acid sodium or sodium hydroxide solution. At 2- step, wood tissues of samples were swelled by the fast decompression after infiltrating $CO_2-supercritical$ fluid at high pressure. The study investigated the possibility of shape recovering in waterlogged wood. Shape recovering rate is different with solution and wood species. Sample of sodium hydroxide solution doesn't swell anymore when using $CO_2-supercritical$ fluid. In general, the sample of sodium hydroxide solution has higher Shape recovering rate than $CO_2-supercritical$ fluid solution treated by chlorous acid sodium.

  • In this Paper, the saturation behavior in the electrical phenomena of the DH Laser diode is explained theoretically using rate equnations. The carrier density approaches to ns gradually well above the threshold and theoretically expected curve of and calculated value of $\Delta$Vj are exactly equal to the experimental results which was observed, as shown. The carrier saturation factor If is proposed and we show k$\beta$ is a measure of the ideality of the sample diode. In the light of relation, the sample diode's idoality increases as f decreases.

  • Vibrio parahaemolyticus was investigated for analysis of distribution and antibiotic susceptibility at the markets, Seoul in 2004. The average isolation rate was 26.8%(306/1,143) and the highest rate with 64.9% was obtained in August. The isolation rates from December to April was 0.0%. It is more effective to inoculate into the enrichment medium, alkaline pepton water by swabbing a sample with a cotton ball rather than pouring mixed sample. The isolation rates were from 24.4% to 37.1% in domestic samples and from 9.8% to 26.8% in imported ones. All of the isolates were resistent to ampicillin and ticarcillin and most of them were sensitive to chloramphenicol, tetracycline, nalidixic acid, amoxicillin, ceftriaxone, streptomycin, kanamycin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazol, ampicillin/sulbactam, ciprofloxacin.

  • This study analyzes global inflation synchronization and derives policy implications for the Korean economy. Unlike previous studies that assume a single global inflation factor, this study investigates if inflation in Korea can be explained further by other global inflation factors. Our principal component analysis provides three principal components for global inflation that are linked to the Korea inflation rate - the first component is closely related to OECD inflation, and the second and third components reflect China's inflation. This study empirically demonstrates via in-sample fitting and out-of-sample forecasting that the three principal components of global inflation play a significant role in explaining and predicting Korean inflation in the short-term, while their role is limited in the mid-term. Domestic macroeconomic variables are found to be more important for the mid-term movements of the Korean inflation rate. The empirical results here suggest that the Bank of Korea should focus more on domestic economic conditions than on global inflation when implementing monetary policy because global factors are likely to be already reflected in domestic macro-variables in the mid-term.

  • The paper analyzes and compares the effects of domestic monetary policy using DSGE, DSGE-VAR, and VAR based on a two-country open economy model of Korea and the U.S. According to impulse response analysis, a domestic interest rate hike raises won value in the case of DSGE and DSGE-VAR models, while in the case of the unrestricted VAR model, it lowers won value. In the marginal data density standard, DSGE-VAR (${\mu}=1$) is superior to DSGE or Bayesian VAR over the sample period. Conversely, in the in-sample RMSE criterion, especially for the won/dollar exchange rate, VARs are superior to DSGE or DSGE-VAR. It is necessary to study further if these differences are caused by model misspecification or omitted variable bias.

  • As the power industry moves towards open competition, there has been a need for methodology to evaluate distribution power system reliability by using customer interruption costs, particularly in power supply zones under the competitive electricity market. This paper presents an algorithm to evaluate system average interruption duration index, expected energy not supplied, and system outage cost taking into consideration failure rate of the distribution facility and industrial customer interruption cost. Also, to apply this algorithm to evaluate system outage cost presented in this paper, the distribution arrangement of a dual supply system consisting of mostly high voltage customers in an industrial complex in Korea is used as a sample case study. Finally, evaluation results of system interruption cost, system average interruption duration index, and expected energy not supplied in the sample industrial complex area are shown in detail.

  • In the present work, cross-roll rolling was carried out using a rolling mill in which the roll axis is tilted by $7.5^{\circ}$ towards the transverse direction of the rolled sample. The evolution of strain states during cross-roll rolling was investigated by three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) simulation. Parallel to cross-roll rolling, normal-rolling using a conventional rolling mill was also carried out in the same rolling condition for clarifying the effect of cross-roll rolling. It turned out that three shear rate components were all introduced to the rolled sample by the cross-roll rolling process, while only one shear rate component operated during normal-rolling.

  • Fine grained AZ31 and AZ61 magnesium alloys produced by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) were tested for investigating tensile and fatigue properties, including microstructure, monotonic tensile flow, fatigue life and crack growth rate. For the two alloys, the yield stress of the ECAPed sample was lower than that of the unECAPed (=as received) sample, because of the fact that the softening effect due to texture anisotropy overwhelmed the strengthening effect due to grain refinement. Grain refinement of the AZ31 and AZ61 alloys through ECAP was found not to be significantly effective in increasing fatigue strength.

  • Filtering is necessary for the SRC(sample rate converter), that is used to change the sampling rate of a digital signal. The larger the conversion ratio of the sampling rate becomes, the more signal processing is needed for the filter, which means more complexity on realization. Thus it is important to reduce the amount of signal processing for the case of substantial conversion ratios. In this paper it is presented an efficient design method of a multistage FIR(finite impulse response) filter, with which the rate conversion occurs in stages rather than in one step. In this method, filter searching is performed exhaustively over all possible factorization of the conversion ratio, and also the filter complexity is measured based on direct realization rather than on estimation. It has been shown a designed multistage filter to have a less number of multiplications for filtering operation in comparison with a conventionally designed one. It has also been found that by allowing some variations of the filter architecture such as a halfband filter or a filter with multiple transition bands, the number of multiplications can be reduced further.
