  • This paper presents a design method of a robust tracking controller satisfying multiple constraints using genetic algorithm. A robust $H_{\infty}$ constraint with loop shaping is used to address disturbance attenuation with error limits and a loop gain constraint is considered so as not to enlarge the tracking loop gain and bandwidth unnecessarily. The robust $H_{\infty}$ constraint is expressed by a matrix inequality and the loop gain constraint is considered as an objective function so that genetic algorithm can be applied. Finally, a robust tracking controller can be obtained by integrating genetic algorithm with LMI approach. The proposed tracking controller design method is applied to the track-following system of an optical DVD recording drive and is evaluated through the experimental results.

  • This paper presents a controller design method for a robust control problem with multiple constraints using genetic algorithms and LMI design method. A robust $H_{\infty}$ constraint with loop shaping and pole placement is used to address disturbance attenuation with error limits and desired transient specifications, in spite of the plant uncertainties and disturbances. In addition, a loop gain constraint is considered so as not to enlarge the loop gain unnecessarily. The robust $H_{\infty}$ constraint and pole placement constraint can be expressed in terms of two matrix inequalities and the loop gain constraint can be considered as an objective function so that genetic algorithms can be applied. Accordingly, a robust controller can be obtained by integrating genetic algorithms with LMI approach. The proposed controller design method is applied to a track-following system of an optical disk drive and is evaluated through simulation results.

  • This paper deals with a robust fine seek controller design problem with multiple constraints using a genetic algorithm. A robust $H\infty$ constraint is introduced to attenuate effectively velocity disturbance caused by the eccentric rotation of the disk. A weighting function is optimally selected based on the estimation of velocity disturbance and the estimated minimum velocity loop gain. A robust velocity loop constraint is considered to minimize the variances of the velocity loop gain and bandwidth against the uncertainties of fine actuator. Finally, a robust fine seek controller is obtained by solving a genetic algorithm with an LMI condition and an appropriate objective function. The proposed controller design method is applied to the fine seek control system of a DVD recording device and is evaluated through the experimental results.

  • In this paper, a robust and reliable H$_{\infty}$ control problem is considered for linear uncertain systems with time-varying norm-bounded uncertainty in the state matrix, which performs well despite of actuator outages. Using linear static state feedback and the quadratic stabilization with H$_{\infty}$-norm bound, a robust and reliable H$_{\infty}$ controller is obtained that stabilizes the plant and guarantees an H$_{\infty}$-norm bound constraint on disturbance attenuation for all admissible uncertainties and normal state as well as faulty state of actuators. It provides a sufficient condition for robust and reliable stabilization with H$_{\infty}$-norm bound. Reliability is guaranteed provided actuator outages only occur within a prespecified subset of actuators.tors.

  • In this paper, a robust H$\infty$ optimal tuning problem of a structure-specified PSS is investigated for power systems with parameter variation and disturbance uncertainties. Genetic algorithm is employed for optimization method of PSS parameters. The objective function of the optimization problem is the H$\infty$-norm of a closed loop system. The constraint of the optimization problem are based on the stability of the controller, limits on the values of the parameters and the desired damping of the dominant oscillation mode. It is shown that the proposed H$\infty$ PSS tuned using genetic algorithm is more robust than conventional PSS.

  • In this paper, systems described by state-space models are considered. For these systems, author studies the decoupling of linear systems and gives a sufficient condition for a system to be made feedback decouplable. Especially, the condition is given by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality) form. Based on this condition, it is guaranteed that the system decoupling problem is achieved and the $H_{\infty}$ constraint is satisfied simultaneously. This result can be easily extended to the robust decoupling control system design problems.

  • In this paper, a robust filter is proposed to effectively estimate the system states in the case where system model uncertainties as well as disturbances are present. The proposed robust filter is constructed based on the linear approximation methods for a general nonlinear uncertain system with an integral quadratic constraint. We also derive the important characteristic of the proposed filter, a modified $H_{\infty}$ performance index. Analysis results show that the proposed filter has robustness against disturbances, such as process and measurement noises, and against parameter uncertainties. Simulation results show that the proposed filter effectively improves the performance.

  • In this paper, we present a robust $H^{\infty}$ controller design method for parameter uncertain time-varying systems with disturbance and that have time-varying delays in both state and control. It is found that the problem shares the same formulation with the $H^{\infty}$ control problem for systems without uncertainty. Through a certain differential Riccati inequality approach, a class of stabilizing continuous controller is proposed. For parameter uncertainties, disturbance and time varying delays, proposed controllers the plant and guarantee an $H^{\infty}$ norm bound constraint on disturbance attenuation for all admissible uncertainties. Finally a numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity of the results.ts.

  • This paper proposes an optimum design problem of structural and control systems. taking a 3-D truss structure as an example. The structure is supposed to be subjected to initial static loads and time-varying disturbances. The structure is controlled by a state feedback $H_{\infty}$ controller to suppress the effect of the disturbances. The design variables are the cross sectional areas of truss members. The structural objective function is the structural weight. As the control objective, we consider two types of performance indices. The first function represents the effect of the initial loads. The second one is the norm of the feedback gain. These objective functions are in conflict with each other. Then, first, two control objective functions are transformed into one control objective by the weighting method. Next, the structural objective is treated as the constraint. By introducing the second control objective which considers the magnitude of the feedback gain, we can per limn the design which is robust in modeling errors.

  • This paper deals with a robust mixed ${H_2}/{H_{\infty}}$ filter design problem for a nonlinear dynamic system modeled as a T-S fuzzy system. Integral quadratic constraints are used to describe various kinds of uncertainties of the plant. A sufficient condition for solvability is given in terms of linear matrix inequality problem which can be efficiently solved using a convex optimization technique. In order to demonstrate the Proposed method, a numerical design example is provided.
