  • This paper deals with two forms of preventive replacement policy with minimal repair at failure. Those are, 1. the replacement policy I based on the cumulative operating time. 2. the replacement policy II based on the number of failures. The basic assumptions are; (1) the cost of minimal repair at failure is increasing with the number of failures since the last replacement, (2) the equipment fails stochastically with time.

  • This paper focuses on the determining the optimal replacement interval and the corresponding minimum cost of replacement for the renewal T-53 engine. It is assumed that sample failure data of T-53 engine are drawn from the mixed population, and then parameters of the failure distributions are estimated. On the basis of the above situation, the Multi-step Weibull distributions are estimated and then the optimal replacement time of T-53 engine is determined. This paper shows that if the replacement time is reduced to 2000 hours, the 2,217won of the replacement cost per unit time is only saved but also reliability of the T-53 engine is increased.

  • In this paper, we consider a new preventive replacement policy for the system which deteriorates while it is in operation with an increasing failure rate. The system is subject to two types of failure. A type 1 failure is repairable while a type 2 failure is not repairable. In the new policy, a system is replaced at the age of $t_p$ or at the instant the$\textsc{k}^{th}$ type 1 failure occurs, whichever comes first. However, if a type 2 failure occurs before a preventive replacement is performed, a failure replacement should be made. We assume that a type 1 failure can be rectified with a minimal repair. We also assume that a replacement takes a non-negligible amount of time while a minimal repair takes a negligible amount of time. Under a cost structure which includes a preventive replacement cost, a failure replacement cost and a minimal repair cost, we develop a model to find the optimal ($\textsc{k},t_p$) policy which minimizes the expected cost per unit time in the long run while satisfying a system availability constraint.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research is to determine optimal replacement age using non-informative prior information and Bayesian method. Methods: We propose a novel approach using Bayesian method to determine the optimal replacement age in block replacement policy by defining the prior probability with data on failure time and repair time. The Marcov Chain Monte Carlo simulation is used to investigate the asymptotic distribution of posterior parameters. Results: An optimal replacement age of block replacement policy is determined which minimizes cost and nonoperating time when no information on prior distribution of parameters is given. Conclusion: We find the posterior distribution of parameters when lack of information on prior distribution, so that the optimal replacement age which minimizes the total cost and maximizes the total values is determined.

  • Many studies on flash memory-based buffer replacement algorithms that consider the characteristics of flash memory have recently been developed. Conventional flash memory-based buffer replacement algorithms have the disadvantage that the operation speed slows down, because only the reference is checked when selecting a replacement target page and either the reference count is not considered, or when the reference time is considered, the elapsed time is considered. Therefore, this paper seeks to solve the problem of conventional flash memory-based buffer replacement algorithm by dividing pages into groups and considering the reference frequency and reference time when selecting the replacement target page. In addition, because flash memory has a limited lifespan, candidates for replacement pages are selected based on the number of deletions.

  • This paper reports a manner to use a Bayesian approach to derive the optimal replacement policy. In order to produce a system with minimal repair warranty, a replacement model with the extended warranty is considered. Within the warranty period, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the end-user. The failure time is assumed to follow a Weibull distribution with unknown parameters. The expected cost rate per unit time, from the end-user's viewpoints, is induced by the Bayesian approach, and the optimal replacement policy to minimize the cost rate is proposed. Finally, a numerical example illustrating to derive the optimal replacement policy based on the Bayesian approach is described.

  • The sales of consumer durables are composed of first time purchases and replacement purchases. Since the sales for most mature durable products are dominated by replacement sales, it is necessary to develop a model incorporating replacement component of sales in order to forecast total sales accurately. Several single product diffusion models incorporating replacement demand have been developed, but research addressing the multi-product diffusion models has not considered replacement sales. In this paper, we propose a model based on consumer choice behavior that simultaneously captures the diffusion and the replacement process for multi-product relationships. The proposed model enables the division of replacement sales into repurchase by previous users and transition purchase by users of different products. As a result, the model allows the partitioning of the total sales according to the customer groups (first-time buyers, repurchase buyers, and transition buyers), which allows companies to develop their production and marketing plans based on their customer mix. We apply the proposed model to the Korean automobile market, and compare the fitting and forecasting performance with other Bass-type multi-product models.

  • In most of literatures of age replacement policy, the authors consider the case that a new item starts operating at time zero and is to be replaced by new one at time T. It is, however, often to purchase used items because of the limited budget. In this paper, we consider age replacement policy of a used item whose age is $t_0$. The mathematical formulas of the expected cost rate per unit time are derived for both infinite-horizon case and finite-horizon case. For each case, we show that the optimal replacement age exists and is finite and investigate the effect of the age of the used item.
