Nanorod films of cobalt oxide ($Co_3O_4$) have been grown by a unique oblique angle deposition (OAD) technique in an e-beam evaporator for supercapacitor electrode applications. This technique offers a non-chemical route to achieve large aspect ratio nanorods. The fabricated electrodes at OAD $80^{\circ}$ exhibited a specific capacitance of 2875 F/g. The electrochemically active surface area was $1397cm^{-2}$, estimated from the non-Faradaic capacitive current region. Peak energy and power densities obtained for $Co_3O_4$ nanorods were 57.7 Wh/Kg and 9.5 kW/kg, respectively. The $Co_3O_4$ nanorod electrode showed a good endurance of 2000 charge-discharge cycles with 62% retention. The OAD approach for fabricating supercapacitor nanostructured electrodes can be exploited for the fabrication of a broad range of metal oxide materials.
Background: Patients with long-standing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC). Colon cancer risk in IBD increases with longer duration and greater anatomic extent of colitis, the presence of primary sclerosing cholangitis, family history of CRC and degree of inflammation of the bowel. This study aimed to characterize the histopathological pattern of benign colorectal diseases among Saudi patients and to highlight age and gender variations of lesions as base line data for future studies to investigate the link between benign/IBD and colorectal cancers in the local population. Materials and Methods: The materials consisted of 684 biopsies, reported as benign (excluding malignancies and polyps) at the Department of Pathology, King Fahad Hospital, Madinah, Saudi Arabia from January 2006 to December 2013. Data collected and entered in MS-Excel and were analyzed using SPSS-20. Results: Of 684 colorectal tissues reviewed, 408 specimens (59.6%) were from male patients and 276 specimens (40.4%) were from females giving a male: female ratio of 1.5:1. Age of the patients ranged from 4 to 75 years with a mean of 39.6 years. The most frequent histologic diagnosis was a chronic non specific proctocolitis followed by ulcerative colitis, accounting respectively for 52.6% and 31.7% of all cases. These were followed by Crohn's disease 22 (3.2%), ischemic bowel disease 20 (2.9%), diverticular disease 14 (2%), eosinophilic colitis 12 (1.7%) and solitary rectal ulcer 12 (1.7%). A minority of 21 patients (3.1%) were cases of acute nonspecific proctocolitis, schistosomiasis, tuberculosis, volvulus and pseudomembranous colitis. Conclusions: These data show that although chronic non specific proctocolitis and ulcerative colitis were the dominant diagnoses, Crohn's disease, ischemic bowel disease and diverticular disease also existed to a lesser extent and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of benign colorectal diseases. This study provides a base line data for future studies which would be taken up to investigate the link between benign/IBD and colorectal cancers in the local population.
The tribological behavior of an Fe-based bulk amorphous alloy while sliding against a AISI 304 disc is investigated using a unidirectional pin-on-disc type tribometer in dry and distilled water environments. The rod-shaped bulk pins are fabricated by suction casting. The crystallinities of the bulk amorphous alloys before and after the friction tests are determined by X-ray diffraction. The friction coefficient and specific wear rate of the amorphous pin in the water environment are found to be twice and thrice as much as in the dry environment at a low applied pressure, respectively. However, at a higher pressure, the friction coefficient and specific wear rate are 0.4 and 1.02 mg/(Nm/s), respectively, in the water environment. A microstructure analysis shows that the worn surface of the alloy is characterized by delamination from the smooth friction surface, and thus delamination is the main wear mechanism during the friction test in dry sliding environment. In contrast, brittle fracture morphologies are apparent on the friction surface formed in distilled water environment. For the sample tested at a lower sliding speed, the XPS data from the oxide layer are similar to those of the pure element with weak suboxide peaks. For higher sliding speeds, all the main sharp peaks representing the core level binding energies are shifted to the oxide region.
This study examines the wear behavior of mild steel pins mated against alloyed tool steel discs in a pin-on-disc type sliding test machine and provides specific clarification regarding the effects of disc hardness on the wear behavior of a mating mild steel pin. The analysis confirms these effects through the observation of differences in the wear rates of the mild steel pins at low sliding speed ranges. These differences occur even though the hardness of the mating disc does not affect the wear characteristic curve patterns for the sliding speeds, regardless of the wear regime. In the running-in wear regime, increasing the hardness of the mating disc results in a decrease in the wear rates of the mild steel pins at low sliding speed ranges. However, in the steady-state wear region, the wear rate of a pin mated against the 42DISC is greater than the wear rate of a pin mated against the 30DISC, which has a lower hardness value. This means that the tribochemical reactivity of the mating disc, which is based on hardness value, influences the wear behavior of mild steel at low sliding speed ranges. In particular, oxides with higher oxygen contents, such as $Fe_2O_3$ oxides, form predominantly on the worn surface of the 42DISC. On the contrary, the wear behavior of mild steel pins at high sliding speed ranges is nearly unaffected by the hardness of the mating disc.
In this paper, the laser cutting characteristics of the flexible PCB using high power Nd:YAG UV laser were investigated. A specific FPCB model was selected for the experiment. Test sheets were made, which had equal materials and layer structure to those of the outline (OL) region and the contact pad (CP) region in the FPCB. The experiment is made up of two stages. In the first stage of the experiment, the laser cutting fluence was found, which is the threshold fluence to cut the test sheets completely. The laser cutting fluence of the OL sheet is $1781.26{\sim}1970.16\;J/cm^2$ and that of the CP sheet is $2109.34{\sim}2134.34\;J/cm^2$. In the second stage, cutting performance and its qualities were analyzed by the experiment. The laser cutting performance remained almost unchanged for all laser and process parameter sets. The average cutting width (top side/bottom side) of the OL sheet was $40.45\;{\mu}m/11.52\;{\mu}m$ and that of the CP sheet was $22.14\;{\mu}m/10.93\;{\mu}m$. However, the laser cutting qualities were different according to the parameters. The adjacent region of the cutting line on the OL sheet was carbonized as the beam speed was low and the overlap coefficient was high. The surface quality around the cutting line of the CP sheet was about the same. Carbonization and debris occurred on the surface of the cutting line. As a result of the experiment, the cutting qualities were better as the overlap coefficient was made low and beam speed high. Therefore, the overlap coefficient 2 or 3 is proper for the FPCB laser cutting.
Background/Objectives: To analyze changes in the incidence of thyroid cancer for Korean population using big data from the National Health Insurance Service. Materials & Methods: Sample cohort database between January 2004 and December 2013 with 1,000,000 cases for each year was enrolled in this study. Thyroid cancer incidence was analyzed by sex, age and by region. Public health insurance payment was used to reflect socioeconomic status. Results: The incidence of thyroid cancer in Korea increased for 10 years annually. There are 3 times increasing in the incidence rate of thyroid cancer from 2004, 0.03% to 2013, 0.09%. The sex ratio in the incidence rate of thyroid cancer was male : female = 1:7.2 in 2004 and male : female = 1:3.6 in 2013 that suggest decreased gap between the sex ratio. Between 2004 and 2010, the incidence rates of those in their 40s were found to be the highest, whereas the incidence rates for those in their 50s were found to be highest from 2011 and thereafter. Every year the high socioeconomic status group showed a higher incidence of thyroid cancer than low socioeconomic status group. Some specific region showed continuous high incidence of thyroid cancer, not all city and state. Conclusion: The incidence rate of thyroid cancer for 10 years had special feature by sex, age, socioeconomic status and especially by region. This results will be a barometer for further epidemiologic study about the incidence of thyroid cancer for Korean population
The p*-n ultra shallow junction diode with Co/Ti bilayer silicide was formed by ion implantation of $BF_{2}$ energy : 30KeV, dose : $5\times10^{15}cm^{-2}$] onto the n-well Si(100) region and RTA-silicidation of the evaporated Co($120\AA$)/Ti($40\AA$) double layer. The fabricated diode exhibited ideality factor of 1.06, specific contact resistance of $1.2\times10^{-6}\Omega\cdot\textrm{cm}^2$ and leakage current of $8.6\muA/\textrm{cm}^2$(-3V) under the reverse bias of 3V. The sheet resistance of silicided emitter region, the boron concentration at silicide/Si interface and the junction depth including silicide layer of ($500\AA$ were about $8\Omega\Box$, $6\times10^{19}cm^{-3}$, and $0.14\mu{m}$, respectively. In the fabrication of diode, the application of Co/Ti bilayer silicide brought improvement of ideality factor on the current-voltage characteristics as well as reduction of emitter sheet resistance and specific contact resistance, while it led to a little increase of leakage current.

We characterized embryo early gene (EEG)-704 promoter of the silkworm Bombyx mori, which is specifically regulated in the development stages. To determine core promoter region, 10 different partial mutant clones were tested by luciferase assay in Sf9 cells. About 1.5 kb promoter shows higher luciferase activity than constitutive promoter (BmA3). Interestingly, EEG-704 shares the same DNA sequences with BmHsp20.8 by the result of BLAST analysis; its expression is also increased under heat shock condition. Development of such promoter inducible, directly or indirectly in the developmental-stage, is very useful in making recombinant proteins in transgenic silkworms.

The specific motivation for joining an Al alloy and Zn-coated steel arises from the need to save fuel consumption by weight reduction and to enhance the durability of vehicle structures in the automobile industry. In this study, the lap joining A6K31 Al alloy (top) and SGARC340 Zn-coated steel (bottom) sheets with a thickness of 1.0 mm and 0.8 mm, respectively, was carried out using the friction stir weld (FSW) technique. The probe of a tool did not contact the surface of the lower Zn-coated steel sheet. The friction stir welding was carried out at rotation speeds of 1500 rpm and travel speeds of 80~200 mm/min. The effects of tool geometry and welding speed on the mechanical properties and the structure of a joint were investigated. The tensile properties for the joints welded with a larger tool were better than those for the joints done with a smaller tool. A good correlation between the tensile load and area of the welded region were observed. The bond strength using a larger tool (M4 and M3) decreased with an increase in welding speed. Most fractures occurred along the interface between the Zn-coated steel and the Al alloy. However, in certain conditions with a lower welding speed, fractures occurred at the A6K31 Al alloy.

Metal artifacts cause inaccuracies in target delineation, radiation treatment planning, and delivery when computed tomography images of a radiotherapy patient implanted with a high-density material in the body are acquired. In this study, we investigated the possibility of obtaining improved images in clinical trials through metal artifact reduction using silicon impression materials without the need for a specific metal artifact reduction algorithm. A silicon impression material exhibiting a constant Hounsfield unit (HU) value according to the mixing ratio of the catalysts and bases was selected. The material did not exhibit any change in weight or shape over time. For both the instances of inserting the metal material and applying the silicon impression material, the HU value and dose were compared with homogeneous cases filled with water-equivalent materials. When the silicon impression material was applied to the region where the high-density material was located, the HU value was within 5% and the dose was within 3% compared with those of the homogeneous cases. In this study, the silicon impression materials reduced metal artifacts. However, because the composition, shape, size, and location of high-density materials differ, further studies are required to consider these factors in clinical applications.
