By inserting $H_2O$ treatment steps during atomic layer deposition of a ZnO layer, the turn-on voltage shift from negative bias stress (NBS) under illumination was reduced considerably compared to that of a device that has a continuously grown ZnO layer without any treatment steps. Meanwhile, treatment steps without introducing reactive gases, and simply staying under a low working pressure, aggravated the instability under illuminated NBS due to an increase of oxygen vacancy concentration in the ZnO layer. From the experiment results, additional oxidation of the ZnO channel layer is proven to be effective in improving the stability against illuminated NBS.

A CMOS photo detection bias quenching circuit is developed to be used with single photon avalanche photodiodes (SPADs) operating in Geiger mode for the detection of weak optical signals. The proposed bias quenching circuits for the performance improvement reduce the circuit size as well as improve the performance of the quenching operation. They are fabricated in a $0.18-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology to verify the effectiveness of this technique with the chip area of only $300{\mu}m^2$, which is about 60 % of the previous reported circuit. Two types of proposed circuits with resistive and capacitive load demonstrated improved performance of reduced quenching time. With a commercial APD by HAMAMATSU, the dead time can be adjusted as small as 50 ns.
Phosphorus doped ZnO (PZO) thin films were deposited on $SiO_2$/n-Si substrates using DC magnetron sputtering system varying oxygen partial pressures from 0 to 40 % under Ar atmosphere. The deposited films showed reduced n-type conductivity due to the compensating donor effects by phosphorus dopant. The bias-time stability shows relatively good stability over bias and time comparing to un-doped ZnO-based TFTs.

There is clear pressing need to reduce bias field(Ha,) used on linear magenetomechanical resonator tag by at least a factor of two to allow low-bias operation near the frequency minimum since reducing Ha causes a dramatic increase in well depth, which implies increased stability. However, this makes it more difficult to maintain tight frequncy specs. It can be solved by a reduction of magnetomechanical coupling(k). We determined from an equivalent circuit model that optimal reduced, k, is near 0.3 Also, We determiend the material properties($lambda_s$, :saturated magenetostriction, $M_s$, and,$H_a$) that give k=0.3. From these evaluations, we suggested that on optimal comosition with adequate mathrial properties is $Fe_{55}Co_{15}Cr_6Nb_2B_{18}Si_4$.

The ℓ1-trend filtering method is one of the most widely used methods for extracting underlying trends from noisy observations. Contrary to the Hodrick-Prescott filtering, the ℓ1-trend filtering gives piecewise linear trends. One of the advantages of the ℓ1-trend filtering is that it can be used for identifying change points in piecewise linear trends. However, since the ℓ1-trend filtering employs total variation as a penalty term, estimated piecewise linear trends tend to be biased. In this study, we demonstrate the biasedness of the ℓ1-trend filtering in trend level estimation and propose a two-stage bias-reduction procedure. The newly suggested estimator is based on the estimated change points of the ℓ1-trend filtering. Numerical examples illustrate that the proposed method yields less biased estimates for piecewise linear trends.

In this article, we propose nonconcave penalties on a reduced-rank regression model to select variables and estimate coefficients simultaneously. We apply HARD (hard thresholding) and SCAD (smoothly clipped absolute deviation) symmetric penalty functions with singularities at the origin, and bounded by a constant to reduce bias. In our simulation study and real data analysis, the new method is compared with an existing variable selection method using $L_1$ penalty that exhibits competitive performance in prediction and variable selection. Instead of using only one type of penalty function, we use two or three penalty functions simultaneously and take advantages of various types of penalty functions together to select relevant predictors and estimation to improve the overall performance of model fitting.
In order to investigate the effects of substrate bias voltage on the formation of$ZnS-SiO_2$ protective film in phase change optical disk by R.F. magnetron sputtering method, thin dielectric film was formed on Si wafer and Corning glass by using ZnS(80mol%)-$SiO_2$(20mol%)t arget under argon gas. In this study, the Taguchi experimental method was applied in order to obtain optimum conditions with reduced number of experiments and to control numerous variables effectively. At the same time this method can assure the reproducibility of experiments. Optimum conditions for film formation obtained by above method were target RF power of 200 W. substrate RF power of 20 W, Ar pressure of 5 mTorr. sputtering time of 20 min.. respectively. The phase of specimen was determined by using XRD and TEM. The compositional analysis of specimen was performed by XPS test. In order to measure the thermal resistivity of deposited specimen, annealing test was carried out at $300^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$. For the account of void fraction in thin film, the Bruggeman EMA(Effective Medium Approximation) method was applied using the optical data obtained by Spectroscopic Ellipsometry. According to the results of this work, the existence of strong interaction between bias voltage and sputtering time was confirmed for refractive index value. According to XRD and TEM analysis of specimen, the film structure formed in bias voltage resulted in more refined structures than that formed without bias voltage. But excess bias voltage resulted in grain growth in thin film. It was confirmed that the application of optimum bias voltage increased film density by reduction of void fraction of about 3.7%.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aging on visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and emotional perception bias. We used the useful field of view (UFOV) task to measure the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and the emotional perception task to measure positive and negative emotional perception bias. A total of 48 participants took part in this study with 23 participants in the senior group and 25 in the junior group. The senior group showed slower response time and lower accuracy than the junior group in the UFOV task, indicating that the senior group had lower visuo-spatial attention allocation ability than the junior group. In the emotional perception task, the senior group showed both positive and negative emotional perception bias more than the junior group. The correlation analysis showed that the negative emotional perception bias for accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the response time to the stimuli presented in the visual angle 30° in the UFOV task (r=.289). In addition, positive emotional perception bias for the accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the accuracy of the stimuli presented in the visual angles 10°, 20°, and 30° in the UFOV task (r=.305, r=.322, and r=.299, respectively). However, it showed a negative correlation with the response time of the stimuli presented in the same location in the UFOV task (r=-.345, r=-.295, r=-.308). These results suggest that aging is associated with a decrease in the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and perceptual bias toward positive and negative emotions. In addition, the positive and negative emotional perception biases associated with aging are potentially related to the reduced visuo-spatial attention allocation ability.
In load and resistance factor design (LRFD) method, resistance factors are typically calibrated using resistance bias factors obtained from either only the data within ${\pm}2{\sigma}$ or the data except the tail values of an assumed probability distribution to increase the reliability of the database. However, the data selection approach has a shortcoming that any low-quality data inadvertently included in the database may not be removed. In this study, a data quality evaluation method, developed based on the quality of static load test results, the engineering characteristics of in-situ soil, and the dimension of aggregate piers, is proposed for use in constructing database. For the evaluation of the method, a total 65 static load test results collected from various literatures, including static load test reports, were analyzed. Depending on the quality of the database, the comparison between bias factors, coefficients of variation, and resistance factors showed that uncertainty in estimating bias factors can be reduced by using the proposed data quality evaluation method when constructing database.
Demand for plastic gears are increasing in many industries due to their low production cost, light weight, applicability without lubricant, corrosion resistance and high resilience. Despite these benefits, utilizing plastic gears is limited due to their poor material properties. In this work, DLC coating was applied to improve the tribological properties of polyamide66 gear. 0 V, 40 V, and 70 V of negative bias voltages were selected as a deposition parameter in DC magnetron sputtering system. Pin-on-disk experiment was performed in order to investigate the wear characteristics of the gears. The results of the pin-on-disk experiment showed that DLC coated polyamide66 with 40 V of negative bias voltage had the lowest friction coefficient value (0.134) and DLC coated PA66 with 0 V of negative bias voltage showed the best wear resistance ($9.83{\times}10^{-10}mm^3/N{\cdot}mm$) among all the specimens. Based on these results, durability tests were conducted for DLC coated polyamide66 gears with 0 V of negative bias voltage. The tests showed that the temperature of the uncoated polyamide66 gear increased to about $37^{\circ}C$ while the DLC coated gear saturated at about $25^{\circ}C$. Also, the power transmission efficiency of the DLC coated gear increased by about 6% compared to those without coating. Weight loss of the polyamide66 gears were reduced by about 73%.
