  • As the environmental pollution is intensified, the interest in the conservation and quality of global environment is also increasing. Interior design affects on environmental conservation as well as the quality of outdoor and indoor environment through all phases of interior design. Therefore, interior designers should do environment-friendly design. The purpose of this study was to examine the consciousness and application degree of environment-friendly interior design in actual project by interior designers. The study was conducted by a questionnaire survey. The subjects were 215 interior designers working in Seoul area. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) The 33 representative elements of environment-friendly interior design were selected and categorized into 5 fields: resources and materials, energy savings, ecological environments, indoor environments, and space effectiveness. These would be useful to carry out environment-friendly interior design projects and related researches. 2) Many interior designers didn't understand what the environment-friendly interior design is correctly, even though they were interested in it. Therefore, the educational program of environment-friendly interior design should be developed. 3) Even though interior designers thought most elements of environment-friendly interior design very important, they didn't apply them well to actual projects. This implies that alternatives for activating them are needed.

  • It is necessary for developing countries to increase their consolidation of domestic technology in order to improve their economy. In order to raise their techniques, they have to try to induce the advanced know-how from other countries in spite of heavy cost. The object of this study is to establish the model on which we base our choice of the proper techniques or plants and give priority to them by using quantified selection criteria. The method in this study has two stages, and the writer has selected 12 factors affecting the decision making for the importation of technology from the industrially advanced countries. First, the lists of valuable know-how for the better development of national industry should be determined, and for the formulation and arrangement of the lists, a council of specialists which uses questionnaires in terms of the Semantic Differential Method, should be organized. Second, for the assignments of priority to the prospective items for importation, the writer has imployed both the Leontief Model and the Disman Model as objective methods and Mottley-Newton method, one of the R&D Project Selection Methods, as a general model. The writer has applied the methods described above to the fields of petrochemical industry in Korea.

  • The model exchange from CAD system to CAE system in valid and effective manner is the major issue of automatic analysis modelling of ship structure. However, model exchange approaches based on the neutral CAD file have resulted in invalid model exchange that could not properly reflect the characteristics of CAD model and CAE model of ship structure. This paper presents the new approach of n-to-n mapping to exchange ship structure model in heterogeneous CAD/CAE environments. In this study, the common model called 'unified ship model for analysis' to directly extract proper information from different CAD systems for ship structural analysis is proposed. Moreover, a command language based model interfacing technique to construct an idealized model for analysis job is also proposed. The proposed approach has been actually implemented in DSME CAD/CAE environment of ship structure such as TRIBON system, PATRAN system and FLUENT system. The applicability and effectiveness of the proposed approach was verified by applying it to the real analysis project for fore-body of ship and block lifting. This application results show that the proposed approach can be effectively used for heterogeneous CAD/CAE environment.

  • Plumbing of the plant project is an important discipline. Now workers on the construction site, carry hundreds of piping spool drawings and documents, record the Spool Stage data. Then, The data is input into the system or has been documented in the field office. Because of the work-flow, duplication work occurs. As a result, it is reducing the effectiveness of the Plumbing and causes schedule delays. Also, To manage the integration process, there is a problem, it takes a lot of time. Therefore, The study is conducted to design and implementation of piping spool management Android Application using QR Code. The Application will contribute to the management to the integration of piping work process.

  • Objectives: The main purpose of this review is to introduce the current status of environmental health indicators of Korea and to share our experience of the developmental process of Korean version of environmental health indicators. Methods: This paper describes 1) the background of environmental health indicators; 2) the ways how we developed environmental health indicators of Korea; 3) the current status of selected indicators; and 4) suggestions for the further policy development. Results: The 6-year long project for the development of environmental health indicator systems in Korea could provide outputs on three major distinct aspects on the indicator issues. Firstly, we have developed the rational process/manual so that the government can select and advocate the potential indicators with a relatively objective manner. Secondly, we have suggested the potential candidate indicators which can be implemented immediately. We also pooled all indicators in order to evaluate the summary index which we expect to tell the status of environmental health. Third, we provided suggestions on the further utilization of this indicator system. Conclusion: The mission of environmental health policy is to resolve the public health problems occurring because of hazardous environment. In order to identify the environmental determinants of the community health problems and to evaluate the effectiveness of the policy implemented, these environmental indicators can be used. Therefore, the government should implement this ready-prepared system of environmental health indicators.

  • Locals' initiating the community making projects is considered as a good approach in terms of the effectiveness, sustainability and government's budget. But there are not the local institutions' support, while local people alone may face difficulties in starting and managing the projects. This study is to explore the roles of the institutions for starting and managing the family-friendly communities. For this purpose, 18 secondary source cases from the livable community making projects were analyzed. And the major findings of this study were as follows: The (local) institutions need to gain credibility from the locals before starting the family-friendly community project. In the motivation steps, the institution performs the role of a proposer, a survey researcher, an opinion gatherer and mediator. In the systematization steps, the institution needs to perform as a mentor, a developer of human and non-human resources, a conflict mediator, an education practitioner, an instructor, a networker, and an administrative staff. In the execution steps, the institution needs to perform as a cultural program planner, a public relations personnel, and an assessor. In conclusion, the institution needs to train community coordinator and develop programs to educate local residents for the effective family-friendly community projects.

  • The concept of construction information systems (IS) is very comprehensive and subjective. Acronyms in relation to the construction IS may include BIM, CIC, IT, nD-CAD, ERP, CALS, KM and so on. These terminologies are used in a somewhat mixed way causing possible misunderstandings in research and practice of construction information systems. Moreover, ever-changing construction business environment has widely affected the roles and methods of utilizing construction IS. Examples of these changes are dissemination of alternative project delivery systems, global standardization under highly competitive overseas market, and advancement of information and communication technologies. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to propose a high-level framework for information systems in the construction industry. Several different concepts in the area of construction IS were investigated first in order to identify the major variables of the framework. Trends of research and real-world implementations were then analyzed to support the rationale of the variables. Finally, a framework was proposed by re-arranging the relevant issues. Findings of this paper indicate that different acronyms commonly share many similar concepts in their definitions, however, in each acronym, the motivations and approaches to implementing construction IS are very different. Different approach can provide maximum effectiveness, while overlaps may happen causing practical inefficiency.

  • For deciding the profitability and feasibility of the construction project, the schematic estimation has to not only link the design decision-making but also estimate the cost with reliability. The Object-based schematic estimation system was developed for easily linking with design-making and supports to evaluate the design alternatives in the design development stage but didn't consider the cost estimated by object supplementary and parameter work item. This research presents the Integrated Object-Parameter Schematic Estimation Model in the design development stage that can lead to more accurately estimate the cost through analyzing historical data from the high-storied office buildings. For the development of the proposed model for schematic estimation, after analyzing and classifying the work items from the Bills of Quantities(BOQs) and drawings of historical data, this research proposed the methods of estimating cost in accordance with attributes of each work item using regression analysis. In addition, a case study is performed for the effectiveness as comparing the proposed model with the previous estimating model.
