  • Pathogenicity of entomopathogenic nematde, Steinernema carpocapsae Pocheon strain (ScP) was evaluated against different larval stages(2nd, 3-4th and 5th) of Anomis commode and Anomis mesogona(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in petri dish and pot. The $LC_{50}$ values were increased in proportion to larval stage of A. commoda and A. mesogona. $LC_{50}$ value of ScP against 2nd instar of A. commoda and A. mesogona was 9.7 and 4.5, respectively. The 2nd instar of both species was also susceptible to ScP in pot test. That is, mortality of 2nd instar of A. commode and A. mesogona was higher representing $72.5\%\;and\;87.5\%$ 5 days later after treatment, respectively, when ScP was applied at the ,ate of 90,000 infective juveniles(Ijs) per $pot(=1\times10^9\;Ijs/ha)$. However, susceptibility was decreased from 3rd instar. Mortality of 5th instar of A. commoda and A. mesogona was $5.0\%\;and\;10.0\%$, respectively, at the rate of 90,000 Ijs/pot. When ScP was applied into pot including mixed larval stages from 2nd to 5th instar(10 larvae far 2nd instar, 10 larvae for 3rd - 4th instars, and 10 larvae for 5th instar) at the rate of 90,000 Ijs/pot, mortality of A. commoda and A. mesogona was $69.2\%\;and\;50.0\%$, respectively.

  • Hardening of 2 component adhesive such as epoxy resin used in saturating FRP composite is triggered by mixing each component part within a batch. Chemical reactions occur explosively after a certain time after mixing the batch, viscosity and temperature rapidly increase. As a results, bond performance remarkably decreases and workability declines due to increase in viscosity. Therefore, adhesion should be completed before chemical hardening reaction is rapidly going on. This study examined pot life of structural adhesive for FRP composites by means of change in apparent viscosity and means of exothermic reaction temperature proposing in existing test standards. Result of each test method was compared and analyzed, and reasonable test method and evaluation method are suggested.

  • Potassium phosphonate inhibited less mycelial growth of Phytophthora cactorum in vitro than metalaxyl-M. But the net protection rate in leaflet test and whole plant pot test was greater in potassium phosphonate than metalaxyl-M. P. ginseng appeared to have an induced resistance against P. cactorum with phosphonate around 50~100 ppm.

  • Many highway bridges in Korea need seismic retrofit because only one decade has passed since the seismic design criteria was introduced. In this experimental study, the effectiveness of base isolation bearings was discussed for the seismic retrofit of the highway bridges. Four real scale RC pier specimens were constructed for the test. These RC piers didn't have seismic details. Except for one RC pier for the pilot test, three types of bearings such as Pot bearing, Rubber bearing (RB), Lead-rubber bearing (LRB) were applied to the other RC piers respectively. The RC pier with Pot bearing means current state of the prototype bridge that is not retrofitted seismically. And two RC piers with RB or LRB mean assumed states of the prototype bridge that are retrofitted seismically. To simulate dynamic behavior of these RC piers under earthquake loads, Pseudo-dynamic test method was used.

Zentmyer's drench method. pot test and field test with materials such as Carbamisol (ammonium methyldithiocarbamic acid $30\%$), NCS (ammonium N-methyldithiocarbamate$50\%$, Similuton(ethyl phenethynylmeroury $3.3\%$), Soill(N-ethylmercuric p-toluensulfonanilide $4\%$, Captan (N-trichloromethylthio-1, 2, 3, 6-tetra-hydrophthalimide $80\%$), Difolatan(N-tetrachloroet-hylthio 4cyelohexeno-1,2-dicarboximide $80\%$, Grand(2, 3-dibromepropionitryl $20\%$, trichloronitroethylene $20\%$) and Calcium hydroxide upon occurrence of Fusarium wilt of cucumber were studied. The results are summarized as follows. 1. According to submerged method, all the compounds tested were highly inhibitory to mycelial growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. cucumerinum except calcium hydroxide. But several compounds were no inhibitory to the causal fungus except Grand and Similuton, with Zentmyer's drench method. 2. Grand was the most effective fungicide for the control of cocumber Fusarium wilt in the pot test, and followed by Similuton and calcium hydroxide. The population of Fusarium oxysporm was markedly reduced when soil was treat with Grand compared with other chemicals. 3. Fungicidal effects upon occurrence of Fusarium wilt of cucumber under the field experiment varied with the fungicides. Of the fungicides tested. Grand gave the best control, and followed by Difolatan.

  • Sea-eels caught by fishing boat and trawl were analyzed to investigate feeding status and individual growth of sea-eels caught from the lost plastic sea-eel Pot which is estimated at the ghost fishing Average length of sea-eel caught from fishing boat and test fishing was 33.6cm, 48.9cm for trawl and 45.6cm for the lost plastic sea-eel pot, respectively. The length frequency distribution is the same as the fact that sea-eel goes to the offshore from the coastal waters according to the getting growth. Sea-eel rate having empty stomach were 5.0% for fishing boat, 4.2% for trawl and the empty stomach rate of sea-eel was the highest as 87.6% in the lost pot. Sea-eel rate feeding fish as prey were 98.7% for fishing boat, 78.8% for trawl and 63.3% for the lost pot, respectively and other preys were crustacean and cephalopod. Fatness index calculated using weight and length were 1.514 for trawl catches and 1.292 for the lost pot and the difference was 15% between trawl catches and the lost pot. There also was difference at the 5% significance level in the result of t-test of Covariance Analysis.

  • This study evaluated the fertilizing value of struvite deposit recovered from swine wastewater in cultivating lettuce. Struvite deposit was compared to complex fertilizer, organic fertilizer and compost to evaluate the fertilizing effect of struvite deposit. Laboratory pot test showed that the struvite deposit better enhanced lettuce growth in comparison to commercial fertilizers. It was revealed that the growth rate of lettuce was simultaneously controlled by phosphorus (P) and magnesium (Mg). Moreover, nutrients such as nitrogen (N), P, K, calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) were abundantly observed in the vegetable tissue of struvite pot. Meanwhile, struvite application led to the lower accumulation of mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), chromium ($Cr^{6+}$) and nickel (Ni). In addition, no detection of cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As) and nickel (Ni) in the lettuce tissue was observed in struvite application pots. The experimental results proved that the optimum struvite dosage for lettuce cultivation was 0.5 g struvite/kg soil. The column experiments clearly showed that ammonia nitrogen was more slowly released from struvite deposit than from complex fertilizer. Consequently, it was concluded that the struvite deposits recovered from swine wastewater were effective as a multi-nutrient fertilizer for lettuce cultivation.

  • This study has been conducted to assess and analyze the damage of Codonopsis lanceolata by differential inoculation levels of Meloidogyne hapla in pot and plot. As the density of M. hapla increased, early growth of C. lanceolata was inhibited 60% in vine and 54% in root. However, growth of C. lanceolata was not remarkably different by density of M. hapla in the plot test. This result may be attribute to low density of M. hapla in the plot.

  • This paper presents the mesh selectivity of a net pot for common octopus Octopus minor for the sustainable resources management of common octopus. The filed experiments were carried out the total 10 times in the southern part of coastal sea in Korea from March to May in 2010 using net pots of five different mesh sizes (16, 18, 20, 22 and 26mm). The test of size selectivity, indicated a 50% selection value on the logistic master curve of 3.195, whereby 50% of individuals with a mantle size of approximately 70.3mm selected a mesh size of 22mm. Considering that 50% of common octopus entering sexual maturity have a mantle size of 70.6mm, the optimum mesh size should be equal to, or larger than 22mm.
