NHPCI 지표를 활용한 공용성 추정과 수명 산정 (Estimation of Performance and Pavement Life using National Highway Pavement Condition Index)

  • PURPOSES: The new methodology is proposed for estimation of long-term performance and pavement life based on the national highway database in Daejeon area. Furthermore, this study tried to verify the applicability of performance estimation using NHPCI (National Highway Pavement Condition Index) on tendency of pavement deterioration as time goes by under Korean road environments. METHODS: Reliability theories are applied to estimate the mean life and to determine the appropriate distribution using 3 levels of traffic loads (high, medium, low) based on maintenance and rehabilitation history data for 15 years. RESULTS: As a result, Lognormal distribution is suitable for explanation of pavement lifetime in Daejeon area regardless of traffic loads. In addition, we found that the results of mean life and maintenance timing based on NHPCI for the pavement sections of 3 levels of traffic loads are available. CONCLUSIONS: Based on this study, it was found that mean life of high, medium and low levels of traffic loads are about 8.1 years, 12.2 years and 12.7 years, respectively. Higher level of traffic loads shorten the pavement mean life.

  • This paper proposes a robust H$_{\infty}$ tracking filter to improve the unacceptable target tracking performance for systems with parameter uncertainties. Also, we use here the input estimation approach to account for the possibility of maneuver. Simulation results show that the robust H$_{\infty}$ tracking filter which is proposed here to solve the systems with all system parameter uncertainties, has a good tracking performance for a maneuvering target tracking problem.m.

  • In this paper, we propose the optimal lag size which is optimize the performance of the fixed-lag minimum variance FIR smoother. Since the performance of estimation is represented with two Riccati equation and the nonlinear equation of lag size, it is difficult to obtain the optimal lag size. Therefore, we consider the optimal lag size for the scalar system and the numerical example is provided to demonstrate the proposed algorithm.

가상현실을 위한 다중 접촉 실시간 햅틱 랜더링 (Real-Time Haptic Rendering for Multi-contact Interaction with Virtual Environment)

  • This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering method for multi-contact interaction with virtual environments. Haptic systems often employ physics-based deformation models such as finite-element models and mass-spring models which demand heavy computational overhead. The haptic system can be designed to have two sampling times, T and JT, for the haptic loop and the graphic loop, respectively. A multi-rate output-estimation with an exponential forgetting factor is proposed to implement real-time haptic rendering for the haptic systems with two sampling rates. The computational burden of the output-estimation increases rapidly as the number of contact points increases. To reduce the computation of the estimation, the multi-rate output-estimation with reduced parameters is developed in this paper. Performance of the new output-estimation with reduced parameters is compared with the original output-estimation with full parameters and an exponential forgetting factor. Estimated outputs are computed from the estimated input-output model at a high rate, and trace the analytical outputs computed from the deformation model. The performance is demonstrated by simulation with a linear tensor-mass model.

  • In general, Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems (AS/RS ) have racks of equal sized cells to utilize the concept of unit-load. Most of the techniques for the performance estimation of a unit-load AS/RS are a static model or computer simulation. Especially, their models were developed under assumption that the Storage/Retrieval (S/R) machine performs only single command (SC) or dual command (DC). In reality, defending on the operating policy and the status of the system at a particular time, the S/B machine performs a SC or a DC, or becomes .: idle. In order to resolve these weak points, we propose a stochastic model for the performance estimation of unit-load AS/RS by using a single-server queueing model.   • The well-conditioned observer in a stochastic system is designed so that the observer is less sensitive to the ill-conditioning factors in transient and steady-state observer performance. These factors include not only deterministic issues such as unknown initial estimation error, round-off error, modeling error and sensing bias, but also stochastic issues such as disturbance and sensor noise. In deterministic perspectives, a small value in the L$_2$ norm condition number of the observer eigenvector matrix guarantees robust estimation performance to the deterministic issues and its upper bound can be minimized by reducing the observer gain and increasing the decay rate. Both deterministic and stochastic issues are considered as a weighted sum with a LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) formulation. The gain in the well-conditioned observer is optimally chosen by the optimization technique. Simulation examples are given to evaluate the estimation performance of the proposed observer.

  • In this paper, a hybrid fuzzy controller using genetic algorithm based on parameter estimation mode to obtain optimal control parameter is presented. First, The control input for the system in the HFC is a convex combination of the FLC's output in transient state and PID's output in steady state by a fuzzy variable, namely, membership function of weighting coefficient. Second, genetic algorithms is presented to automatically improve the performance of hybrid fuzzy controller utilizing the conventional methods for finding PID parameters and estimation mode of scaling factor. The algorithms estimates automatically the optimal values of scaling factors, PID parameters and membership function parameters of fuzzy control rules according to the rate of change and limitation condition of control input. Computer simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of proposed hybrid fuzzy controller. ITAE, overshoot and rising time are used as a performance index of controller.

A Linear Prediction Based Estimation of Signal-to-Noise Ratio in AWGN Channel

  • Most signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimation techniques in digital communication channels derive the SNR estimates solely from samples of the received signal after the matched filter. They are based on symbol SNR and assume perfect synchronization and intersymbol interference (ISI)-free symbols. In severe channel distortion where ISI is significant, the performance of these estimators badly deteriorates. We propose an SNR estimator which can operate on data samples collected at the front-end of a receiver or at the input to the decision device. This will relax the restrictions over channel distortions and help extend the application of SNR estimators beyond system monitoring. The proposed estimator uses the characteristics of the second order moments of the additive white Gaussian noise digital communication channel and a linear predictor based on the modified-covariance algorithm in estimating the SNR value. The performance of the proposed technique is investigated and compared with other in-service SNR estimators in digital communication channels. The simulated performance is also compared to the Cram$\acute{e}$r-Rao bound as derived at the input of the decision circuit.

  • A practical adaptive tracking filter for a maneuvering target is proposed in this paper by combining a modified input estimation technique with pseudo-residuals and a decoupled tracking filter in line-of-sight Cartesian coordinate system. Since the adaptive tracking filter has decoupled structure and computes maneuver input estimates for each axis separately, it requires much less computations compared with the coventional tracking filter with MIE technique without degrading performance. Also, since pseudo-measurement noises in line-of-sight Cartesian coordinate system are much less correlated compared with those of inertial Cartesian coordinate system, the proposed tracking filter produces less false alarms or miss detections to improve the performance.

  • An interacting multiple model (IMM) estimation algorithm based on the mixing of the predicted state estimates is proposed in this paper for a right continuous jump-linear system model different from the left-continuous system model used to develop the existing IMM algorithm. The difference lies in the modeling of the mode switching time. Performance of the proposed algorithm is compared numerically with that of the existing IMM algorithm for noisy system identification. Based on the numerical analysis, the proposed algorithm is applied to target tracking with a large sampling period for performance comparison with the existing IMM.
