  • Ultraviolet-nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL) is a promising method for cost-effectively defining nanoscale structures at room temperature and low pressure. A 5${\times}$5${\times}$0.09 in. quartz stamp is fabricated using the etch process in which a Cr film was employed as a hard mask for transferring nanostructures onto the quartz plate. FAS(Fluoroalkanesilane) is used as a material for anti-adhesion surface treatment on the stamp and a thin organic film to improve adhesion on a wafer is formed by spin-coating. The low viscosity resin droplets with a nanometer scale volume are dispensed on the whole area of the coated wafer. The UV-NIL experiments have been performed using the EVG620-NIL. 370 nm - 1 m features on the stamp have been transferred to the thin resin layer on the wafer using the multi-dispensing method and UV-NIL process. We have measured the imprinted patterns and residual layer using SEM and AFM to evaluate the potential of the process.

  • This study presents a fabrication method of cell-chip using aqueous solution based surface modification. The applications of cell-chip have potential for fundamental study of genetics, cell biology as well as cancer diagnostics and treatment. Conventional methods for fabrication of cell-chip have been limited in economic loss and environmental pollution because of the use of harsh organic solvent, complex process of silicon technology, and expensive equipment. In order to fabricate cell chip, we have proposed simple and eco-friendly process combined polyelectrolyte multilayer coating with microcontact printing. For the proof of concept, the cell chip can be applied to analyze the different expression of cell surface glycans and derivatives between cancer and normal cells. Our proposed method is useful technique for the application of novel cancer diagnostics and basic medical engineering.

  • ZnO nanostructures have a lot of interest for decades due to its varied applications such as light-emitting devices, power generators, solar cells, and sensing devices etc. To get the high performance of these devices, the factors of nanostructure geometry, spacing, and alignment are important. So, Patterning of vertically- aligned ZnO nanowires are currently attractive. However, many of ZnO nanowire or nanorod fabrication methods are needs high temperature, such vapor phase transport process, metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy, thermal evaporation, pulse laser deposition and thermal chemical vapor deposition. While hydrothermal process has great advantages-low temperature (less than $100^{\circ}C$), simple steps, short time consuming, without catalyst, and relatively ease to control than as mentioned various methods. In this work, we investigate the dependence of ZnO nanowire alignment and morphology on si substrate using of nanosphere template with various precursor concentration and components via hydrothermal process. The brief experimental scheme is as follow. First synthesized ZnO seed solution was spun coated on to cleaned Si substrate, and then annealed $350^{\circ}C$ for 1h in the furnace. Second, 200nm sized close-packed nanospheres were formed on the seed layer-coated substrate by using of gas-liquid-solid interfacial self-assembly method and drying in vaccum desicator for about a day to enhance the adhesion between seed layer and nanospheres. After that, zinc oxide nanowires were synthesized using a low temperature hydrothermal method based on alkali solution. The specimens were immersed upside down in the autoclave bath to prevent some precipitates which formed and covered on the surface. The hydrothermal conditions such as growth temperature, growth time, solution concentration, and additives are variously performed to optimize the morphologies of nanowire. To characterize the crystal structure of seed layer and nanowires, morphology, and optical properties, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) studies were investigated.

  • In general, organic TFTs are comprised of four components: gate electrode, gate dielectric, organic active semiconductor layer, and source and drain contacts. The TFT current, in turn, is typically determined by channel length and width, carrier field effect mobility, gate dielectric thickness and permittivity, contact resistance, and biasing conditions. More recently, a number of techniques and processes have been introduced to the fabrication of OTFT circuits and displays that aim specifically at reduced fabrication cost. These include microcontact printing for the patterning of metals and dielectrics, the use of photochemically patterned insulating and conducting films, and inkjet printing for the selective deposition of contacts and interconnect pattern. In the fabrication of organic TFTs, microcontact printing has been used to pattern gate electrodes, gate dielectrics, and source and drain contacts with sufficient yield to allow the fabrication of transistors. We were fabricated a pentacene OTFTs on flexible PEN film. Au/Cr was used for the gate electrode, parylene-c was deposited as the gate dielectric, and Au/Cr was chosen for the source and drain contacts; were all deposited by ion-beam sputtering and patterned by microcontact printing and lift-off process. Prior to the deposition of the organic active layer, the gate dielectric surface was treated with octadecyltrichlorosilane(OTS) from the vapor phase. To complete the device, pentacene was deposited by thermal evaporation and patterned using a parylene-c layer. The device was shown that the carrier field effect mobility, the threshold voltage, the subthreshold slope, and the on/off current ratio were improved.

  • Ink-jet printing has become a widespread technology with the society's increase in aesthetic awareness. Especially, ink-jet printing using glazed ceramic ink can offer huge advantages including high quality decoration, continuous processing, glaze patterning, and direct reproduction of high resolution images. Recently, ceramic ink-jet printing has been rapidly introduced to decorate the porcelain product and the ceramic tiles. In this study, we provide an effective method to apply ceramic ink-jet decorations on the glass substrates using a oleophobic coating with perfluorooctyl trichlorosilane. The ink-jet printed patterns were much clearer on the oleophobically coated glass surface than the bare glass surface. The contact angle of the ceramic ink was maximized to the value of $64.0^{\circ}$ on the glass surface, when it was treated with 1 vol% PFTS solution for 1 min. The effects of the printing conditions and firing process on the ink-jet printed patterns on the oleophobically coated glass were also investigated.

  • Three types of spherulitic morphologies have been investigated in dual substrate mode of Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) type reaction system. Prior to growth of spherulites, three distinct patterning behaviors have been observed sequentially during the reaction process. Initial and the early-phase of reaction showed the emergence of concentric ring-like wave patterns. A colloidal-state of reaction consists of numerous fine solid particles, which forms primarily some nucleation centers of dendritic characters. The nucleation centers were found to grow in sizes and shapes with the progress of reaction. It leads to growth of dendritic-like spherulitic crystal patterns. The resultant spherulites showed transitions in their morphologies, including sea-weeds and rhythmic spherulitic crystal patterns, by the effects substituted organic substrate and in the higher concentration of bromate-initiator respectively. The branching mechanism and crystal ordering of spherulitic textures were studied with help of optical microscope (OPM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Characteristics of crystal phases were also evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Results indicated that the compositions of reactants and crystal orderings were interrelated with morphological transitions of spherulites as illustrated and described.

  • Vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) is a well-known material that exhibits a metal-semiconductor transition at 340 K, with drastic change of transmittance at NIR region. However, $VO_2$ based thermochromics accompany with low visible transmittance value and unfavorable color (brownish yellow). Herein, we demonstrate the adjustment of visible transmittance of $VO_2$ thin film by nanosphere template assisted patterning process using sol-gel method. 2-Dimenstional honeycomb shape was varied as function of diameter of nanosphere and coating conditions. The morphological geometry of the films was investigated by FE-SEM and AFM. Result shows that inversed shape of nanosphere was formed clearly and pattern width was altered according to the bead size. This structure creates the geometrical blank area from the position of nanosphere which improves the optical transmittance at the visible region. Moreover, such patterned $VO_2$ thin film not only maintains the optical switching efficiency, but also generate the gorgeous scattering effect which presumably support the glazing application.

  • We have prepared and investigated the properties of photoinitiator-free photosensitive polyimide gate insulatos for organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). The precursor was prepared from a dianhydride, 3,3',4,4'-Benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA) and novel aromatic diamine, 7-(3,5-diaminobenzoyloxy) coumarine (DA-CM). Photo-patternability of the polyimide precursor film and surface morphology of the films before and after photo-patterning process were investigated and negative pattern with a resolution of 50 ${\mu}m$ was obtained nicely. In addition, we have fabricated OTFTs with pentacene and photosensitive polyimide as a semiconductor and a gate insulator; respectively. According to the device geometry, the ${\mu}$, current modulation ratio and subthreshold swing of the devices were around 0.2${\sim}$0.4 $cm^2$/Vs, more than $10^5$ and around 3${\sim}$5 V/dec, respectively.

  • Sol-gel preparation technique using a chemical reaction of metal alkoxides has been widely used for the fabrication of various materials including ceramics. However, its mechanism has been studied till now because a number of chemical ways are possible from various alkoxides and additives. In this study, the mechanism of hydrolysis, condensation, and polymerization of alkoxides were investigated from the fabrication of lead-zirconate-titanate (PbZr$\_$x/Ti$\_$l-x/O$_3$; PZT) thin film that is used as various micro-actuator, transducer, and sensor because of its high electro-mechanical coupling factors and thermal stability. Furthermore, the fabrication process and characteristics of self-patternable PZT film using photosensitive stabilizer were studied in order to resolve the problem of physical damage and properties degradation during dry etching for device fabrication. Using an optimum condition to prepare the self-patternable PZT film, more than 5000 ${\AA}$ thick self-patternable PZT film could be fabricated by three times coating. The PZT film showed 28.4 ${\mu}$c/cm$^2$ of remnant polarization (Pr) and 37.0 kV/cm of coercive field (E$\_$c/).

  • Line width under $100\;{\mu}m$ with good resolution is difficult to achieve using conventional thick-film process utilizing screen printing method. However combined with lithography technology finer line and space for miniaturization and highly integrated package is achievable. In this study, photosensitive Ag paste of optimum formulation used for thick film lithography technology was fabricated by various Ag powder, glass powder and additives. As the result, line width of $30\;{\mu}m$ with good definition and reduced mismatch during co-firing with LTCC substrate was acquired. Formulated Ag paste was used to pattern embedded fine line inductor with over 90% yield.
