  • Bending, buckling and free vibration responses of functionally graded (FG) higher-order beams resting on two parameter (Winkler-Pasternak) elastic foundation are studied using a new inverse hyperbolic beam theory. The material properties of the beam are graded along the thickness direction according to the power-law distribution. In the present theory, the axial displacement accounts for an inverse hyperbolic distribution, and the transverse shear stress satisfies the traction-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the beams. Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the governing equations of motion. Navier type analytical solutions are obtained for the bending, bucking and vibration problems. Numerical results are obtained to investigate the effects of power-law index, length-to-thickness ratio and foundation parameter on the displacements, stresses, critical buckling loads and frequencies. Numerical results by using parabolic beam theory of Reddy and first-order beam theory of Timoshenko are specially generated for comparison of present results and found in excellent agreement with each other.

  • This paper presents the shear buckling analysis of symmetrically laminated cross-ply plates resting on Pasternak foundation under pure in-plane uniform shear load. The classical laminated plate theory is used for the shear buckling analysis of laminated plates. The Rayleigh-Ritz method with novel plate shape functions is proposed to solve the differential equations and a computer programming is developed to obtain the shear buckling loads. Finally, the effects of the plate aspect ratios, boundary conditions, rotational restraint stiffness, translational restraint stiffness, thickness ratios, modulus ratios and foundation parameters on the shear buckling of the laminated plates are investigated.

  • This paper deals with the free vibrations of horizontally curved beams on an elastic foundation. Taking into account the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation, the differential equations governing free vibrations of noncircular curved beams resting on Pasternak-type foundations are derived and solved numerically. The lowest three natural frequencies for parabolic curved beams with hinged-hinged and clamped-clamped end restraints are calculated. Numerical results are presented to show the effects on the natural frequencies of the non-dimensional system parameters: the horizontal rise to span length ratio, the Winkler foundation parameter, the shear foundation parameter, and the width ratio of contact area between the beam and foundation.

  • This paper presents nonlinear analysis of a functionally graded square plate integrated with two functionally graded piezoelectric layers resting on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation. Geometric nonlinearity was considered in the strain-displacement relation based on the Von-Karman assumption. All the mechanical and electrical properties except Poisson's ratio can vary continuously along the thickness of the plate based on a power function. Electric potential was assumed as a quadratic function along the thickness direction and trigonometric function along the planar coordinate. The effect of non homogeneous index was investigated on the responses of the system. Furthermore, a comprehensive investigation has been performed for studying the effect of two parameters of assumed foundation on the mechanical and electrical components. A comparison between linear and nonlinear responses of the system presents necessity of this study.

  • Using the classical, first order and third order shear deformation plates theories the motion equations of an undrained porous FG circular plate which is located on visco-Pasternak elastic foundation have been derived and used for free vibration analysis thereof. Strains are related to displacements by Sanders relationship. Fluid has saturated the pores whose distribution varies through the thickness according to three physically probable given functions. The equations are discretized and numerically solved by the generalized differential quadrature method. The effect of porosity, pores distribution, fluid compressibility, viscoelastic foundation and aspect ratio of the plate on its vibration has been considered.

  • This article investigates the static thermo-mechanical response of anisotropic thick laminated composite plates on Visco-Pasternak foundations under various thermal load conditions (linear, non-linear, and uniform) along the transverse direction (thickness) of the plate, while keeping the mechanical load constant. The governing equations, which represent the thermo-mechanical behavior of the composite plate, are derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Using Navier's type solution, these equations are solved for the composite plate with simply supported condition. The Visco-Pasternak foundation type is included by considering the impact of the damping on the classical foundation model, which is modeled by Winkler's linear modulus and Pasternak's shear modulus. The excellent accuracy of the present solution is confirmed by comparing the results with those available in the literature. The study investigates the impact of geometric ratios, thermal expansion coefficient ratio, damping coefficient and foundation parameters on the thermo-mechanical flexural response of the composite plate. Overall, this article provides insights into the behavior of composite plates on visco-Pasternak foundations and may be useful for designing and analyzing composite structures in practical applications.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate natural frequencies of tapered thick plate with concentrated masses subjected to in-plane force on pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing kinetic design data for mat of building structures. Finite element analysis of rectangular plate is done by using rectangular finite element with 8-nodes. For analysis, plates is supported on pasternak foundation. The Winkler parameter is varied with 10, 102, the shear foundation parameter is 5. The taper ratio is applied as 0.0, 0.25, 0.5 and the ratio of the concentrated mass to plate mass as 0.25, 0.5 respectively. As results, we can see that when stiffener's sizes or foundation parameter are larger, the natural frequency increases, and when the concentrated mass or taper ratio or in-plane stress is larger, the natural frequency decreases.

  • Recently, as high-rise buildings increase steeply, sub-structures of them are often supported on elastic foundation(in a case of pasternak foundation or winkler foundation). And there are many machines in sub-structures of buildings and slabs of sub-structures are affected by vibration which they make. This paper deals with vibration of plates on elastic foundation. Machines on plates are considered as concentrated mass. • This work presents a simple four-unknown refined integral plate theory for mechanical and thermal buckling behaviors of functionally graded (FG) plates resting on Visco-Pasternak foundations. The proposed refined high order shear deformation theory has a new displacement field which includes indeterminate integral variables and contains only four unknowns in which any shear correction factor not used, with even less than the conventional theory of first shear strain (FSDT). Governing equations are deduced from the principle of minimum total potential energy and a Navier type analytical solution is adopted for simply supported FG plates. The Visco-Pasternak foundations is considered by adding the impact of damping to the usual foundation model which characterized by the linear Winkler's modulus and Pasternak's foundation modulus. The accuracy of the present model is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with those available in the literature. Some numerical results are presented to show the impact of material index, elastic foundation type, and damping coefficient of the foundation, on the mechanical and thermal buckling behaviors of FG plates.
