Many immigrant youth and their families undergo painful separations and complicated reunification experiences. Using data from the Longitudinal Immigrant Student Adaptation (LISA) study, a 5-year longitudinal, mixed-methods study of newcomer youth to the U.S., we examine the impact of lengthy family separations on youth's mental health and their perceived family conflict. Quantitative analyses demonstrate that longer separations positively predict higher psychological symptoms and family conflict, particularly for girls over a sustained period of time. Qualitative analyses of parent and child responses provide insights into the family reunification experiences.

Among them, first-born children are 143 members, second-born are 103, and third-born are 25. Factor analysis, frequencies, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach's α, one way-ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and step-wise regression are used for data-analysis. The main results were as follows : (1) There were some significant differences in the Paternal child rearing Involvement according to the child's sex, while there was no difference as related the father's age and the birth-order of child. To begin with eighty of 100-item scale were selected through the item analysis and from that 48 items were abstracted through the multiple regression analysis conducted to reduce the length of the scale. Results of factor analysis indicated that the PSS comprised of five factors: general satisfaction parent-child relationship spouse support parent's role conflict support of children. Reliabilities for the domains ranged from 79 to 91. To determine the construct validity of this instrument the Marital Satisfaction Scale and the Proverb about child rearing were administered. The two creterion measures showed significant relationships with the PSS. The final 48 items scale from the current analysis were considered to be critical steps in the development of this assessment device.

The Purpose of this study was to explore the generational conflicts around adult children's taking care of elderly parents and grandparents' caring for grand children. The results of this study were as follows. First, the child care responsibility of the parents' generation is much more intense than that of the parent care responsibility of the children's generation. Second, the norm of parent care has changed from being the responsibility of the eldest son to being the responsibility of all of the children, which had led to an increased probability of conflicts between the two generations due to the differences in expectation and reward. Third, the bilateralization of the kinship increases the responsibility of women in taking care of their families, which leads to an increase in conflict among women of different generations. Finally, the generational conflicts related to family care appear across different social classes.
