  • Objective: This study employed a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of the Respected Parents & Respected Children(RPRC) parent education program developed for working mothers of dual-income families with young children. Methods: A total of 32 working mothers were randomly assigned to two groups, an intervention group (n = 16) and a control group (n = 16). Mothers in the intervention group participated in the parent education program. After the termination of the program, differences between the pretest and posttest in terms of mothers'parenting behaviors, parenting efficacy and parental role satisfaction were compared in both groups. Results: Mothers in the intervention group were significantly improved in their parenting behaviors and parenting efficacy, whereas mothers in the control group did not show any significant differences between pretest and posttest scores. However, there was no significant difference in parental role satisfaction between the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion/Implications: These findings suggest that RPRC parent education program is effective in bringing about positive changes in working mothers'parenting confidence, which can be crucial for the future developmental outcomes of their children.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to examine physical health and depression by women's employment status and role satisfaction, and to identify significant predictors for women's health status. Method: With a cross-sectional, correlational study design, a sample of study was consisted of 181 women who were employed or not employed whose child was attending an elementary school through convenience sampling. Data were collected with a structured self-administered questionnaire and analyzed by $X^2$-test, t-test, 2-way ANCOVA and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS program. Result: Employed women had poorer physical health than that of nonemployed women and women who had greater satisfaction as a parent reported better physical health and lower level of depression than who had lower satisfaction with covariates. Predictor for better physical health after controlling for covariates was being not employed, greater satisfaction with worker's role if employed, and greater satisfaction with parent's role. Women who had lower level of depression reported greater satisfaction with their social roles, but occupancy of multiple roles and role satisfaction as worker were not related to depression. Conclusion: Role quantity and role quality seem to be very important factors to maintain better physical and psychological well-being in women.

Results showed that boys and younger children were more satisfied with mother's working than girls and older children. Mothers' DIF satisfaction was dependent on gross family income, parents' occupations, working conditions of each parent, commuter marriage status, and length of time in DIF. Child's psychological wellbeing related positively to mother's parental satisfaction, and to mother's satisfaction with parental roles, parent-child relationships, spouse support and child support. Only sub factors of dilemmas in parental role related negatively to DIF status. Child's satisfaction with mother's roles, father's roles, and mother working influenced mother's parental role satisfaction.

The subjects were 1210 parents(249 fathers and 961 mothers) selected nation widely from 7 cities and several rural area in Korea. the statistics used for data analysis were Fisher's Exact Test, Cramer's V, factor analysis multiple regression, Cronbach's α,and Pearson's correlation. To begin with eighty of 100-item scale were selected through the item analysis and from that 48 items were abstracted through the multiple regression analysis conducted to reduce the length of the scale. Results of factor analysis indicated that the PSS comprised of five factors: general satisfaction parent-child relationship spouse support parent's role conflict support of children. Reliabilities for the domains ranged from 79 to 91. To determine the construct validity of this instrument the Marital Satisfaction Scale and the Proverb about child rearing were administered. • The purpose of the study was to investigate whether there were differences between the Paternal child rearing Involvement and the Parental Satisfaction according to child's sex, father's age and the birth order of child. The subjects surveyed were 271 fathers 132 in their thiries and 139 in their forties who live in Kwang-ju. And the children considered are 128 boys and 143 girls. Among them, first-born children are 143 members, second-born are 103, and third-born are 25. Factor analysis, frequencies, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach's α, one way-ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and step-wise regression are used for data-analysis. The main results were as follows : (1) There were some significant differences in the Paternal child rearing Involvement according to the child's sex, while there was no difference as related the father's age and the birth-order of child. (2) The were some significant differences in the father's Parental Satisfaction which is involved child's sex and the father's age, but there was no difference as to the birth-order of child. (3) There were some significant differences between the Paternal Child rearing Involvement and the Parental Satisfaction, and between its subfactor and the Parental Satisfaction, too. (4) The result of the step-wise regression, which analyses the Paternal child rearing Involvement and the background variables as to father's Parental Satisfaction, shows the Parent-child relationship variable (accounted for about32% of the general variation), spouse support, support of children, general satisfaction, and parent's role conflict at intensity in order. Of the above mentioned five fields, house-activities were the first factor in determining this order. And the personal interaction plays an important role in fulfilling general satisfaction and the support of children. The leisure-action factor was the second explanatory factor in establishing the parent-child relationship. Finally father's age was the fourth explanatory factor in assessing the parent-child relationship variable considering the background variables.

  • Having developed a parent education program for guidance of internet-using children, we evaluated the effectiveness of this program. The program consisted of five two-hour sessions. It was test-run with nineteen participants, which included mothers of elementary school children. In the evaluation of the program, we employed so-called 'pretest-posttest control group design' which compares the difference in the parenting sense of competence, parents' sense of role satisfaction, parents' sense of insecurity, and parents' rearing attitudes between the experimental group and the control group. Program evaluation revealed that the parenting sense of competence and role satisfaction increased in the group that participated in the program compared to the non-participating group. Furthermore, the parents' sense of insecurity decreased and democratic rearing attitudes were fostered in the participating group.
