  • The main purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of Korean adults' perception of parent-child relation on their self-efficacy, child rearing practices, elderly parent care practices, and happiness. In this study the parent-child relation is a relationship between the adults' parents and the adults. The participants in the study were adults (2,632; male=1,275, female=1,357) with children in primary, secondary, and/or university, with an average age of 45.44-years-old (male=46.96-years-old, female=44.10-years-old). The results showed a direct influence of the adults' perception of parent-child relation on their self-efficacy and their child rearing practices, and an indirect influence on their happiness. This indicates that a more positive adult's perception of parent-child relation leads to higher self-efficacy and greater devotion to their child rearing practices. And furthermore, an elevated self-efficacy enhanced their happiness. Gender differences were found for the influence of adults' perception of parent-child relation on elderly parent care practices. For Korean male adults, a more positive perception of parent-child relation lead to a more active participation in elderly parent care practices. However, for Korean female adults no direct influence was found. Based on these results, a discussion of the influence of adults' perception of parent-child relation on the adults' psychological characteristics and family-members relationships is provided.

  • In spite of the fact that the Okcheon system has been rather intensively studied by many geologists since 1945, it still remains as a controversal problem as to its stratigraphy and geologic age. Present study has mainly focused on the upper members of the Okcheon system, namely the Hwanggangri and the Kunjasan formations so as to clarify the lithology, the depositional environment and the tectonic evolution of the formations. The Kunjasan formation lying unconformably over the Hwanggangri formation which is supposed to be a meta-tillite is interpreted as a metamorphosed calcareous argillaceous and/or arenaceous sediments on contract to the idea postulated by some geologists that it was a derivative of silicified Hwanggangri formation. Lithology of the Kunjasan and the Hwanggangri formation is quite different in that the former is white in color, contains few pebbles, and mostly composed of diopside and detrital quartz, whereas the latter is black to dark in color, contains abundant and variable kinds of pebbles, and composed of more argillacous matrix that has been metamorphosed to hornfels. The Hwanggangri and the Kunjasan formations were deposited in the rather deep sea which has transgressed toward northeast from southwest in the late Precambrian time, and the writer (1970) had formerly designated it as Okcheon Paleogeosyncline. With the beginning of Paleozoic era, Okcheon neogeogyncline was formed to the northeast of the old paleogeogyncline area. The transgression of the sea had proceeded toward southwest in which Cambrian strata were accumulated. During this period the area occupied formerly by the paleogeosyncline was uplifted, so that most of the Hwanggangri and the Kunjasan formations were eroded away except in the area close to the neogeosyncline sea coast. This is the reason why the Hwanggangri and the Kunjasan formations are cropped out presently in the area of the vicinity of contact zone of the paleo- and neogeosyncline zones. The age of the Okcheon system has been reconfirmed to be Precambrian from the view of the facts that 1) the Hanggangri formation, the upper member of the Okcheon system is meta-tillite and correlated to the Precambrian tillite in the Yantze basin in China, 2) the Okcheon system has been moderately metamorphosed while other formations of the same age, if it is Paleozoic or later, have not been metamorphosed, and 3) tectonic history and limited areal distribution of the Hwanggangri and the Kunjasan formations is suggestive of Precambian age.

  • This study aimed at investigating the effects of sub-variables of elderly people's lifestyle health and leisure oriented pursuits, outdoor and challenge pursuits, security and material pursuits, family oriented pursuits, and peer oriented pursuits on what they perceive to be successful later years. The background of this study was that there has been few study on the older population in Korea with focus on their cultural and traditional norms. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of elderly people's lifestyle on what they perceive to be successful later years, thereby identifying practical implications for better social welfare associated with successful later years. Analysis was carried out of self reported questionnaires and self-interviews with elderly people aged over 65 frequenting a welfare center for elders and a community center in a city in Korea. In order to examine the effects, a reliability test, a descriptive analysis, a correlation analysis, and a multi-regression analysis were performed. The results of the analysis for sub-variables of lifestyle showed that health and leisure oriented pursuits, outdoor and challenge pursuits, security and material pursuits, family oriented pursuits, and peer oriented pursuits had significant positive impact on successful later years. The two most influential were peer oriented and family oriented pursuits. Drawing on the results, this study suggests that what is needed for dejected and lonely elderly members in the society is to provide them with opportunities for developing and keeping good relationships with friends and family members and there is a need for a system where old people, as consumers of cultural capital, can have easy access to a variety of cultural resources and activities at a local and regional level.

  • Statement of problems: The concept of CR has also changed continuously.?In order to find out the factors that affect the centric slide, studies were carried out to compare the forms of wisdom teeth eruption, lateral movement, premature contact in CR, and anterior movement. Research and statistical methods were based on the report by the 1980 Korean dental association. Material and method: In our study, 403 dentists in their twenties and dentistry students who could understand CR and CO (and who did not receive occlusal, orthodontic treatment, without extreme caries and large prosthodontic care) were compared with the 25 year old results. A segment of line parallel to the upper incisor was marked on the lower incisor. When seen laterally, a line perpendicular to the occlusal plane was drawn on the foremost area of the upper incisor. This line was extended to the lower incisor and the two points (points at the lower and upper incisors) were used as reference points for the CO. After guiding the occlusion to the CR, two lines were marked by using the same method that was used for the CO. The point in which these lines meet became the reference point of CR occlusion Results and conclusions: Results of the experiment completed in 1980 show that all 307 research members had anterior-posterior and upper-lower displacement. Displacement measurements were $0.7{\pm}0.4mm$ for the anterior-posterior displacement, $0.99{\pm}0.50mm$ for the upper-lower displacement,0.18{\pm}0.31 mm for the lateral displacement, and $1.32{\pm}0.67mm$ for the total displacement. Results of the 2006 experiment show that all 409 research members had anterior-posterior and upper-lower displacement. The anterior-posterior displacement was $1.12{\pm}0.86mm$, the upper-lower displacement was $1.02{\pm}0.71mm$, the lateral displacement was $0.61{\pm}0.56mm$, and the total displacement was $1.80{\pm}0.99mm$. No specific differences were found between each group when comparing displacement according to the forms of wisdom teeth eruption. Since 1980, the percentage of unerupted teeth has increased from 35.16% (111/307 people) to 57.5% (236/409 people). Westernization of the Korean cranial form and intraoral structure has brought about these results. In our experiment, 26.7% (109/409 people) of the subjects were cuspid guided, while 7.3% (30/409 people) were mutually guided. No specific differences were found in the amount of displacement between the two groups. Only the subjects with anteriors coming in contact made up the largest percentage group (42.3%, 173/409 people) in our study. No specific differences were found between each group.
