  • The well-known Vlasov-Poisson equation describes plasma physics as nonlinear first-order partial differential equations. Because of the nonlinear condition from the self consistency of the Vlasov-Poisson equation, many problems occur: the existence, the numerical solution, the convergence of the numerical solution, and so on. To solve the problems, a viscosity term (a second-order partial differential equation) is added. In a viscosity term, the Vlasov-Poisson equation changes into a parabolic equation like the Fokker-Planck equation. Therefore, the Schauder fixed point theorem and the classical results on parabolic equations can be used for analyzing the Vlasov-Poisson equation. The sequence and the convergence results are obtained from linearizing the Vlasove-Poisson equation by using a fixed point theorem and Gronwall's inequality. In numerical experiments, an implicit first-order scheme is used. The numerical results are tested using the changed viscosity terms.

  • In this paper chaotic mothions of a straight pipe conveying oscillatory flow and being subjected to external forces such as earthquake are theoretically investigated. The nonlinear partial differential equation of motion is derived by Newton's method. In this equation, the nonlinear curvature of the pipe and the thermal expansion effects are contained. The nonlinear ordinary differential equation transformed from that partial differential equation is a type of Hill's equations, which have the parametric and external exciation term. This original system is transfered to the averaged system by the averaging theory. Bifurcation curves of chaotic motion of the piping system are obtained in the general case of the frequency ratio, n by applying Melnikov's method. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate theorectical results and show strange attactors of the chaotic motion.

  • This paper investigates the static and dynamic behaviors of imperfect single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) modeled as a beam structure by using energy-equivalent model (EEM), for the first time. Based on EEM Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio for zigzag (n, 0), and armchair (n, n) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are presented as functions of orientation and force constants. Nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli assumptions are proposed considering mid-plane stretching to exhibit a large deformation and a small strain. To simulate the interaction of CNTs with the surrounding elastic medium, nonlinear elastic foundation with cubic nonlinearity and shearing layer are employed. The equation governed the motion of curved CNTs is a nonlinear integropartial-differential equation. It is derived in terms of only the lateral displacement. The nonlinear integro-differential equation that governs the buckling of CNT is numerically solved using the differential integral quadrature method (DIQM) and Newton's method. The linear vibration problem around the static configurations is discretized using DIQM and then is solved as a linear eigenvalue problem. Numerical results are depicted to illustrate the influence of chirality angle and imperfection amplitude on static response, buckling load and dynamic behaviors of armchair and zigzag CNTs. Both, clamped-clamped (C-C) and simply supported (SS-SS) boundary conditions are examined. This model is helpful especially in mechanical design of NEMS manufactured from CNTs.

  • In this article we introduce a numerical method, named Gegenbauer wavelets method, which is derived from conventional Gegenbauer polynomials, for solving fractional initial and boundary value problems. The operational matrices are derived and utilized to reduce the linear fractional differential equation to a system of algebraic equations. We perform the convergence analysis for the Gegenbauer wavelets method. We also combine Gegenbauer wavelets operational matrix method with quasilinearization technique for solving fractional nonlinear differential equation. Quasilinearization technique is used to discretize the nonlinear fractional ordinary differential equation and then the Gegenbauer wavelet method is applied to discretized fractional ordinary differential equations. In each iteration of quasilinearization technique, solution is updated by the Gegenbauer wavelet method. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the methods.

  • In this work, a recently developed semi-analytic technique, so called the residual power series method, is generalized to process higher-dimensional linear and nonlinear partial differential equations. The solutions obtained takes a form of an infinite power series which can, in turn, be expressed in a closed exact form. The results reveal that the proposed generalization is very effective, convenient and simple. This is achieved by handling the (m+1)-dimensional Burgers equation.

  • This paper is concerned with the value distribution for meromorphic solutions f of a class of nonlinear partial differential-difference equation of first order with small coefficients. We show that such solutions f are uniquely determined by the poles of f and the zeros of f - c, f - d (counting multiplicities) for two distinct small functions c, d.

  • By applying the Landau-type transformation, we transform a Stefan problem with nonlinear free boundary condition into a system consisting of a parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. Fully discrete finite element method is developed to approximate the solution of a system of a parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. We derive optimal orders of convergence of fully discrete approximations in $L_2,\;H^1$ and $H^2$ normed spaces.

  • The aim of the paper is to apply Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) for the solution of a nonlinear fractional differential equation. Finally, the solution obtained by the Homotopy perturbation method has been numerically evaluated and presented in the form of tables and then compared with those obtained by truncated series method. A good agreement of the results is observed.
