  • We study the periodic homogenization of the non-stationary Stokes equations. The fundamental homogenization theorem and corrector theorem are proved under a very general assumption on the viscosity coefficients and data. The proofs are based on a weak formulation suitable for an application of classical Tartar's method of oscillating test functions. Such a weak formulation is derived by adapting an argument in Teman's book [Navier-Stokes Equations: Theory and Numerical Analysis, North-Holland, Amsterdam, 1984].

  • The homogenization of non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations on anisotropic heterogeneous media is investigated. The effective coefficients of the homogenized equations are found. It is pointed out that the resulting homogenized limit systems are of the same form of non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations with suitable coefficients. Also, steady Stokes equations as cell problems are identified. A compactness theorem is proved in order to deal with time dependent homogenization problems.

  • The goal of this paper is to study decay properties of weak solutions to Cauchy problem of the non-stationary fractional Navier-Stokes equations. By using the Fourier splitting method, we give the time L2-decay rate of weak solutions, which reveals that L2-decay is generally determined by its linear generalized Stokes flow. In second part, we establish various decay results and the uniqueness of the two dimensional fractional Navier-Stokes flows. In the end of this article, as an appendix, the existence of global weak solutions is given by making use of Galerkin' method, weak and strong compact convergence theorems.

  • General classes of boundary-pressure-driven flows of incompressible Newtonian fluids in threedimensional (3D) channels and in 3D pipes with known steady laminar realizations are investigated respectively. The characteristic physical and geometrical quantities of the flows are subsumed in the kinetic Reynolds number Re and a parameter $\psi$, which involves the energetic ratio and the directions of the boundary-driven part and the pressure-driven part of the laminar flow. The solution of non-stationary dimension-free Navier-Stokes equations is sought in the form $\underline{u}=u_{L}+U,\;where\;u_{L}$ is the scaled laminar velocity and periodical conditions are prescribed for U in the unbounded directions. The objects of our numerical investigations are autonomous systems (S) of ordinary differential equations for the time-dependent coefficients of the spatial Stokes eigenfunction, where these systems (S) were received by application of the Galerkin-method to the dimension-free Navier-Stokes equations for u.

  • The steady rotating flows in eccentric annulus has been studied by a numerical method based on the spectral collocation method. The inner cylinder has a constant angular velocity while the outer on e is stationary. Flow between eccentric cylinders is of considerable technical importance as it occurs in journal bearings. In the present work, the governing equations for laminar flow are expressed as Navier-Stokes equations, including the non-linear convection terms. The solutions were utilized i, estimate the effects of the nonlinear terms on the load acting on the rotating cylinder. Based on the half and the full Sommerfeld methods, the load on the rotating cylinder is evaluated with eccentricity, by integrating the pressure and skin friction around the cylinder. The attitude angle and Sommerfeld reciprocal are calculated from the load. Also, the torque on the rotating inner cylinder was calculated. considering the skin friction. The attitude angle and Sommerfeld reciprocal are decreased with eccentricity. Viscous damping coefficient due to the skin friction becomes larger with decreasing the annular space. It is found the non-linear effects of the convection terms on the flow and the load are important. especially on the attitude angle, for relatively wide annular configurations however, the effects on those are minor for very narrow annular ones.

  • The flow through multistage turbomachinery is affected by the interaction between a rotor and a stator. The interaction is due to the inviscid potential effect and viscous effect between closely spaced rotor and stator airfoils. Three-dimensional, unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with a standard $k-{\epsilon}$ model are solved using a non-staggered grid system. This method is applied to the flow through a multistage compressor measured by Stauter et al. The results have shown strong interaction between the rotating and stationary flow field. The decay of rotor wake and the pressure profiles agree very well with experimental data. The wake produced by rotor causes unsteady pressure on the surface of a stator. The rotor/stator interaction produces the unsteady pressure force on the rotor and stator blades.

  • In this paper we look at the three dimensional stagnation point flow problem over a rough rotating disk. We study the theoretical behaviour of the stagnation point flow, or forced flow, in the presence of a slip factor in which convective instability stationary modes appear. We make a numerical investigation of the effects of slip on the behaviour of the flow components of the stagnation point flow where the disk is rough. We provide, for the first time in the literature, a complete convective instability analysis and an energy analysis. Suitable similarity transformations are used to reduce the Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equation into a system of highly non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations, and these are solved numerically subject to suitable boundary conditions using the bvp4c function of MATLAB. The convective instability analysis and the energy analysis are performed using the Chebyshev spectral method in order to obtain the neutral curves and the energy bars. We observe that the roughness of the disk has a destabilising effect on both Type-I and Type-II instability modes. The results obtained will be prominently treated as benchmarks for our future studies on stagnation flow.
