  • Let $F{\subseteq}{\mathbb{P}}^3$ be a smooth surface of degree $3{\leq}d{\leq}9$ whose equation can be expressed as either the determinant of a $d{\times}d$ matrix of linear forms, or the pfaffian of a $(2d){\times}(2d)$ matrix of linear forms. In this paper we show that F supports families of dimension p of pairwise non-isomorphic, indecomposable, Ulrich bundles for arbitrary large p.

  • As an efficient way of modeling bodies of complicated shapes, the sweeping and skinning operations have been implemented. These two operations are very powerful modeling method when the body is defined by the cross sections at various locations. For the implementation, the data structure for storing the cross sections and the resulting three dimensional body has been constructed. The resulting object is defined by the boundary representation based on the non-uniform nonperiodic B-spline surface.

  • Thompson's (1990) adaptive cluster sampling is a promising sampling technique to ensure effective representation of rare or localized population units in the sample. We consider the problem of simultaneous estimation of the numbers of earners through a number of rural unorganized industries of which some are concentrated in specific geographic locations and demonstrate how the performance of a conventional Rao-Hartley-Cochran (RHC, 1962) estimator can be improved upon by using auxiliary information in the form of generalized regression (greg) estimators and then how further improvements are also possible to achieve by adopting adaptive cluster sampling.

  • The semantic and pragmatic effect of inerrogative illocutionary operator is analyzed in a dynamic setting in the framework of structured meaning representation with respect to the dialogue participants' shared common ground. I propose a framework for an optinal interpretation of focus phrases in terrogatives share the essential properties of focus in general, namely that they introduce alternatives to be taken advantage of by relevant focus-sensitive operators. The theory makes an interesting prediction on the distribution and interpretation of double questions in which one question gets modified by another. A further extention of the theory is spelled out to account for other non-assertional illocutionary operators like imperatives and their foci.

  • For a linear operator Q from $R^{d}\; into\; R^{d},\; {\alpha}\;>0\; and\ 0-semi-stability and the operater semi-stability of probability measures on $R^{d}$ are defined. Characterization of $(Q,b,{\alpha})$-semi-stable Gaussian distribution is obtained and the relationship between the class of $(Q,b,{\alpha})$-semi-stable non-Gaussian distributions and that of operator semistable distributions is discussed.

  • Non-trivial automorphisms of the unit disc in the complex plane can be classified by three classes; elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic automorphisms. This classification is due to a representation in the projective special linear group of the real field, or in terms of fixed points on the closure of the unit disc. In this paper, we will characterize this classification by the distance function of the Poincaré metric on the interior of the unit disc.

  • Out of all types of motions the critical motions leading to capsize is roll. The dynamic amplification in case of roll motion may be large for ships as roll natural frequency generally falls within the frequency range of wave energy spectrum typical used for estimation of motion spectrum. Roll motion is highly non-linear in nature. Den are various representations of non-linear damping and restoring available in literature. In this paper an uncoupled non-linear roll equations with three representation of damping and cubic restoring term is solved using a perturbation technique. Damping moment representations are linear plus quadratic velocity damping, angle dependant damping and linear plus cubic velocity dependant damping. Numerical value of linear damping coefficient is almost same for all types but non-linear damping is different. Linear and non-linear damping coefficients are obtained form free roll decay tests. External rolling moment is assumed as deterministic with sinusoidal form. Maximum roll amplitude of non-linear roll equation with various representations of damping is calculated using analytical procedure and compared with experimental results, which are obtained form forced tests in regular waves by varying frequency with three wave heights. Experiments indicate influence of non-linearity at resonance frequency. Both experiment and analytical results indicates increase in maximum roll amplitude with wave slope at resonance. Analytical results are compared with experiment results which indicate maximum roll amplitude analytically obtained with angle dependent and cubic velocity damping are equal and difference from experiments with these damping are less compared to non-linear equation with quadratic velocity damping.

A Critical Study on Arthur C. Danto's' Philosophizing Art' (단토의 '철학하는 예술' 개념에 대한 비판적 고찰)

  • The term "philosophizing art" was coined by Arthur Danto, who tried to define new forms of art, especially Andy Warhol's pop art appeared in New York after 1960's, which could not be explained by traditional concept of "representation". As Danto said "the term 'philosophizing art' is unclear, whether art discusses philosophical issues or art is the object of philosophic discussions", it does not seem like Danto himself had a specific idea when he used this term. The background for Danto coining this term derives from the fact that the old art concept such as denotation and connotation could not fully explain phenomenalistic aspects of concept art which appeared frequently at that time. Many articles in his book "philosophizing art", in which many of his criticism are included, mainly say that art begins philosophizing by dealing with not mimesis or representation but concepts. According to his argument, the history of western art, which has been consisted of mimesis and representation, has come to end when art is about physically embodied with meaning. Of course, as Danto say so, what goes to end is not art itself, but the narrative of art. It means master narrative saying art should be shown different from nature or artificial daily product is over. Danto could not find principals of mimesis and representation which had been main logic in the western art history, when he saw Andy Warhol's Brillo Boxes at Stable Gallery, New York in 1964. Danto questioned "if we can not distinguish Brillo box's artistic aspects visually from other factory-made products, how can we distinguish art from non-art", By answering those questions, he discovered two facts which made him realize the end of Art: One is there is no special way in which works of art have to be shown or has to exist. Therefore, art history has proven that commercial boxes, trashes and files of underwear can be a work of art. The other is we have fully recognized it at the end of 20thcentury. Danto confessed that through Brillo Boxes, he realized the works of art are decided by something can not be seen by eyes, not by distinguished differences by looking at it. This thesis is trying to show personal understanding about art, philosophy and discourses surrounding them and to figure out how Dante opened a new world to art criticism by using new definitions such as 'end of art' and 'philosophizing art' which Danto used to explain inner aspects of art.
