This paper focuses on estimation of an non-integral quadratic function (NIQF) and integral quadratic function (IQF) of a random signal in dynamic system described by a linear stochastic differential equation. The quadratic form of an unobservable signal indicates useful information of a signal for control. The optimal (in mean square sense) and suboptimal estimates of NIQF and IQF represent a function of the Kalman estimate and its error covariance. The proposed estimation algorithms have a closed-form estimation procedure. The obtained estimates are studied in detail, including derivation of the exact formulas and differential equations for mean square errors. The results we demonstrate on practical example of a power of signal, and comparison analysis between optimal and suboptimal estimators is presented.
In this paper, we consider a m-type risk model with Markov-modulated premium rate. A integral equation for the conditional ruin probability is obtained. A recursive inequality for the ruin probability with the stationary initial distribution and the upper bound for the ruin probability with no initial reserve are given. A system of Laplace transforms of non-ruin probabilities, given the initial environment state, is established from a system of integro-differential equations. In the two-state model, explicit formulas for non-ruin probabilities are obtained when the initial reserve is zero or when both claim size distributions belong to the $K_n$-family, n $\in$$N^+$ One example is given with claim sizes that have exponential distributions.

In this paper, we consider the topological derivative concept for developing a fast imaging algorithm of thin inclusions with dielectric contrast with respect to an embedding homogeneous domain with a smooth boundary. The topological derivative is evaluated by applying asymptotic expansion formulas in the presence of small, perfectly conducting cracks. Through the careful derivation, we can design a one-iteration imaging algorithm by solving an adjoint problem. Numerical experiments verify that this algorithm is fast, effective, and stable.

As an analytical approach, the area reduction formula of rubber bearings has been proposed to account for the reduction in bucking load due to shear. The result obtained from the formula is presumed to be conservative but the degree of conservatism is unknown. This paper describes a numerical study which aims at determining the effect of high shear strain on the critical load of rubber bearings using a finite element analysis program. The results from the finite element analysis which accounts for both the material and geometric non-linearities are compared against the theoretical results in order to examine the validity of the theoretical formulas.
The purpose of this paper is to prove some common fixed point theorems for finite number of discontinuous, noncompatible mappings on non complete Menger spaces. Our results extend, improve and generalize several known results in Menger spaces. We give formulas for total number of commutativity conditions for finite number of mappings.

Various empirical formulas have been developed to describe the stability of breakwater armor stones. The Hudson formula is known to have needs to be refined in many ways. but it is most widely used because of its simplicity. The van der Meer formula is sometimes used for the cross-check, but it is not very popularly used due to its complexity and the uncertainty of the relevant parameters. Recently, on the other hand, Yoo(2003) proposed a formula of a simple form using a new non-dimensional number which is called 'action slope' (abbreviated as Yoo formula hereinafter). In this study, in order to provide coastal engineers with some idea of the use of these formulas, their accuracies were estimated by comparing with the experimental data reported by van der Meer in 1987 and 1988. It was found that the van der Meer formula showed the highest accuracy, while the Hudson formula of very low accuracy needed considered judgment on its use. On the other hand, the Yoo formula of slightly lower accuracy but simpler expression than the van der Meer formula seems to be able to be used in engineering practice if a slightly higher safety factor is taken.

The aim of this reviews is to introduce the information concerning design of the UV-curable jet ink composition in order to provide a good adhesive property on non-porous surface. In order to clarify the viscosity dependence of flying speed for the UV curable jet ink, rheological analysis and observation of the flying state of the ink were carried out. The relationship between ink formulas and adhesive property on non-porous surface was investigated. It was examined the adhesive property of radical polymerization type UV curable jet ink included hydrogen abstraction type photo-initiator, it was expected that the strong adhesive strength can be obtained between the ink and non-porous surface in this study. UV curable jet ink with a slight amount of water was prepared. Optimum ratio of the cationic polymerization type UV curable jet ink shows an adequate adhesive strength towards two kinds of non-porous surface such as glass, poly(vinyl chloride) when tests were conducted on the ink jet-printing test machine.
Single span historic bridges often contain non-prismatic members identified with a varying depth along their span lengths. Commonly, the symmetric parabolic height variations having the constant haunch length ratio of 0.5 have been selected to lower the stresses at the high bending moment points and to maintain the deflections within the acceptable limits. Due to their non-prismatic geometrical configuration, their assessment, particularly the computation of fixed-end horizontal forces (FEFs) and fixed-end moments (FEMs) becomes a complex problem. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the behavior of non-prismatic beams with symmetrical parabolic haunches (NBSPH) having the constant haunch length ratio of 0.5 using finite element analyses (FEA). FEFs and FEMs due to vertical loadings as well as the stiffness coefficients and the carry-over factors were computed through a comprehensive parametric study using FEA. It was demonstrated that the conventional methods using frame elements can lead to significant errors, and the deviations can reach to unacceptable levels for these types of structures. Despite the robustness of FEA, the generation of FEFs and FEMs using the nodal outputs of the detailed finite element mesh still remains an intricate task. Therefore, this study advances to propose effective formulas and dimensionless estimation coefficients to predict the FEFs, FEMs, stiffness coefficients and carry-over factors with reasonable accuracy for the analysis and re-evaluation of the NBSPH. Using the proposed approach, the fixed-end reactions due to vertical loads, and also the stiffness coefficients and the carry-over factors of the NBSPH can be determined without necessitating the detailed FEA.

In this paper, one of the widely-used ice resistance prediction methods, introduced by Spencer(1992) of the Institute for Ocean Technology, Canada, is reviewed. Spencer's component-based scaling system for ship-ice model tests is analysed to estimate the ice resistance of various types of icebreaking vessels (Canadian MV Arctic, Terry Fox, R-Class icebreaker, US icebreakers Polar Star and Healy, Russian SA-15 cargo ships, Japanese PM Teshio and a model ship). The general form and the non-dimensional coefficients in ice resistance prediction formula are obtained using the published ice model test and full-scale sea trial data. The applicability of Spencer's method on R-Class icebreaker is discussed to estimate ice resistance for the larger icebreaking cargo vessels. Additional parameters to account for the difference in hull forms of icebreakers and cargo vessels are recommended to be included in the Spencer's original ice resistance prediction formula.
Many longitudinally-arranged pipes in ships are equipped with loops as a measure to reduce stresses caused by displacement loads conveyed from the hull girder bending and/or thermal loads of carried fluid of non-ambient temperature. But as the loops have some negative effects such as causing extra manufacturing cost and occupying extra space, the number and the dimensions of the loops need to be minimized. In the meanwhile, a design formula for pipe loops has been developed by modeling them as a spring element of which stresses and axial stiffness are calculated based on the beam theory. But as the beam theory turns out to be inappropriate to deal with the complex structural behavior in the curved corner portion of the loop, this paper aims at improving the previously developed design formula by adopting correction factors which can allow for the gap between the results of beam theory and a more accurate analysis. This paper adopts a finite element analysis with two-dimensional shell elements with some validation work for it. The paper ends with a sample application of the proposed formulas showing their accuracy and efficiency.
