Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was grafted onto the multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) using ultrasound in water and modified MWCNT/PVA nanocomposite was prepared. Modified MWCNT had a good affinity with PVA matrix and showed improved dispersion state along with uniform properties. Therefore, the electrical percolation threshold was observed at 0.1 wt% MWCNT. 3.0 wt% modified MWCNT/PVA composite had 50% higher tensile strength, 430% higher elongation at break, and 100% greater modulus. Since the modified MWCNT acted as a nucleation agent, the crystallization temperature increased to $8.5^{\circ}C$ and the crystallinity increased to 11.5% at 5.0 wt% loading concentration.
The electrochemical detection of As(III) was investigated on a platinum-iron(III) nanoparticles modified multiwalled carbon nanotube on glassy carbon electrode(nanoPt-Fe(III)/MWCNT/GCE) in 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$. The nanoPt-Fe(III)/MWCNT/GCE was prepared via continuous potential cycling in the range from -0.8 to 0.7 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), in 0.1 M KCl solution containing 0.9 mM $K_2PtCl_6$ and 0.6 mM $FeCl_3$. The Pt nanoparticles and iron oxide were co-electrodeposited into the MWCNT-Nafion composite film on GCE. The resulting electrode was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). For the detection of As(III), the nanoPt-Fe(III)/MWCNT/GCE showed low detection limit of 10 nM (0.75 ppb) and high sensitivity of $4.76\;{\mu}A{\mu}M^{-1}$, while the World Health Organization's guideline value of arsenic for drinking water is 10 ppb. It is worth to note that the electrode presents no interference from copper ion, which is the most serious interfering species in arsenic detection.

In this work multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/fibrin hybrid structures were synthesized via the transglutaminase- catalyzed polymerization of fibrinogen (FBG). Specifically, FBG was tethered onto oxidized MWCNTs by amide coupling, and the in situ polymerization of FBG to fibrin was performed by plasma transglutaminase (Factor XIIIa) in the presence of thrombin. The attached FBG was found to be biologically active and was polymerized to fibrin by thrombin and Factor XIIIa. MWCNT-FBG and MWCNT-Fibrin structures were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy.

We report a fabrication of carbon nanotube (CNT) monolayer thin film using liquid-liquid interface. The multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), which were synthesized by the alumina template method formed a monolayer at the liquid-liquid interface after sonicating the MWCNT water-oil dispersion. Moreover, with the addition of ethanol, the MWCNT monlayer was also formed at the liquid-liquid interface. The monolayer is transferable onto solid substrates and the transferred film was observed using atomic force microscopy (AFM)

Sn-Pb solder alloys in electronics rapidly has been replaced to Pb free solder alloys because of various environmental regulations such as restriction of hazardous substances directive (RoHS), European Union waste electrical, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), registration evaluation authorization and of chemicals (REACH) etc. Because Sn58%Bi (in wt.%) solder alloy has low melting point and higher mechanical properties than that of Sn-Pb solder, it has been studied to manufacture electronic components. However, the reliability of Sn58%Bi solder could be lowered because of the brittleness of Bi element included in the solder alloy. Therefore, we observed the microstructures of Sn58%Bi composite solders with various contents of Sn-decorated multiwalled carbon nanotube (Sn-MWCNT) particles and evaluated bonding strength of the FR-4 components assembled with Sn58%Bi composite solder. Also, microstructures and bonding strengths of the Sn58%Bi composite solder joints were evaluated with the number of reflows from 1 to 7 times, respectively. Bonding strengths and fracture energies of the Sn58%Bi composite solder joints were measured by die shear test. Microstructures and fracture modes were observed with scanning electron microscope (SEM). Microstructures in the Sn58%Bi composite solder joints were finer than that of only Sn58%Bi solder joint. Bonding strength and fracture energy of Sn58%Bi composite solder including 0.1 wt.% of Sn-decorated MWCNT particles increased up to 20.4% and 15.4% at 5 times in reflow, respectively.
The goal of this study is to fill this apparent gap in the area about vibration analysis of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) curved panels by providing 3-D vibration analysis results for functionally graded multiwalled carbon nanotubes (FG-MWCNTs) sandwich structure with power-law distribution of nanotube. The effective material properties of the FG-MWCNT structures are estimated using a modified Halpin-Tsai equation. Modified Halpin-Tsai equation was used to evaluate the Young's modulus of MWCNT/epoxy composite samples by the incorporation of an orientation as well as an exponential shape factor in the equation. The exponential shape factor modifies the Halpin-Tsai equation from expressing a straight line to a nonlinear one in the MWCNTs wt% range considered. Also, the mass density and Poisson's ratio of the MWCNT/phenolic composite are considered based on the rule of mixtures. Parametric studies are carried out to highlight the influence of MWCNT volume fraction in the thickness, different types of CNT distribution, boundary conditions and geometrical parameters on vibrational behavior of FG-MWCNT thick curved panels. Because of using two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method, the present approach makes possible vibration analysis of cylindrical panels with two opposite axial edges simply supported and arbitrary boundary conditions including Free, Simply supported and Clamped at the curved edges. For an overall comprehension on 3-D vibration analysis of sandwich panel, some mode shape contour plots are reported in this research work.
The effect of a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) dispersion on the electrical, morphological and rheological properties of polycarbonate (PC)/MWCNT composites was investigated, with and without pretreating the MWCNTs with hydrogen peroxide oxidation and lyophilization. The resulting PC/treated MWCNT composites showed higher electrical conductivity than the PC/untreated MWCNT composites. The morphological behavior indicated the treated composites to have greater dispersion of MWCNTs in the PC matrix. In addition, the electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) of the treated composites was higher than that of the untreated ones. Rheological studies of the composites showed that the complex viscosity of the treated composites was higher than the untreated ones due to increased dispersion of the MWCNTs in the PC matrix, which is consistent with the electrical conductivity, EMI SE and morphological studies of the treated composites. The latter results suggested that the increased electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the treated composites were mainly due to the increased dispersion of MWCNTs in the PC matrix.

The formation mechanism and photocatalytic properties of a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/$TiO_2$-based nanotube (TNTs) composite are investigated. The CNT/TNT composite is synthesized via a solution chemical route. It is confirmed that this 1-D nanotube composite has a core-shell nanotubular structure, where the TNT surrounds the CNT core. The photocatalytic activity investigated based on the methylene blue degradation test is superior to that of with pure TNT. The CNTs play two important roles in enhancing the photocatalytic activity. One is to act as a template to form the core-shell structure while titanate nanosheets are converted into nanotubes. The other is to act as an electron reservoir that facilitates charge separation and electron transfer from the TNT, thus decreasing the electron-hole recombination efficiency.
Glucose oxidase ($GOD_{ox}$) immobilized biosensor was fabricated by two methods. In one of the methods, gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) prepared by ${\gamma}$-irradiation were loaded into the poly(maleic anhydride)-grafted multi-walled carbon nanotube, PMAn-g-MWCNT electrode via physical entrapment. In the other method, the Au-NPs were prepared by electrochemical reduction of Au ions on the surface of PMAn-g-MWCNT electrode and then GODox was immobilized into the Au-NPs. The $GOD_{ox}$ immobilized biosensors were tested for electrocatalytic activities to sense glucose. The sensing range of the biosensor based on the Au-NPs physically modified PMAn-g-MWCNT electrode was from $30\;{\mu}M$ to $100\;{\mu}M$ for the glucose concentration, and the detection limit was $15\;{\mu}M$. Interferences of ascorbic acid and uric acid were below 7.6%. The physically Au deposited PMAn-g-MWCNT paste electrodes appear to be good sensor in detecting glucose.
Herein we report the in-situ synthesis and direct decoration of chalcogenide naoparticles (NPs) onto multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) through an ionic liquid-assisted sonochemical method (ILASM). The as-obtained MWCNT/$BMimBF_4$/CdTe, MWCNT/$BMimBF_4$/ZnTe and MWCNT/$BMimBF_4$/ZnSe nanocomposites were characterized by TEM images and EDS spectra. In particular, the morphologies of nanocomposites such as bump-like, rough, and smooth core-shell structures were strongly influenced by the type of precursors and the interactions with MWCNT. This synthetic strategy opens a new way to directly synthesize and deposit semiconducting NPs (s-NPs) onto CNTs, which consist of binary components obtained from two precursors with different reaction rates.
