Motivated by several generalizations of the Pochhammer symbol and their associated families of hypergeometric functions and hypergeometric polynomials, by choosing to use a very generalized Pochhammer symbol, we aim to introduce certain extensions of the generalized Lauricella function F(n)A and the Humbert's confluent hypergeometric function Ψ(n) of n variables with, as their respective particular cases, the second Appell hypergeometric function F2 and the generalized Humbert's confluent hypergeometric functions Ψ2 and investigate their several properties including, for example, various integral representations, finite summation formulas with an s-fold sum and integral representations involving the Laguerre polynomials, the incomplete gamma functions, and the Bessel and modified Bessel functions. Also, pertinent links between the major identities discussed in this article and different (existing or novel) findings are revealed.
BACKGROUND: A body of research advocates the prognostic role and usefulness of the volumetric markers of left atrial (LA) phasic functions in the diagnosis of LA dysfunction. We aimed to determine the independent determinants of the volumetric markers of LA contraction function in candidates for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 516 candidates for CABG. The biplane maximal, minimal, and pre-P volumes of the LA were measured with two-dimensional echocardiography, and LA active emptying fraction was calculated. The standardized correlation coefficient for the correlation between each factor and LA active emptying fraction was calculated by using univariate and backward multivariable regression analyses. RESULTS: The multivariable regression analysis demonstrated that the heart rate (β = 0.15; p = 0.001), S (β = 0.09; p = 0.036), E/e' ratio (β = -0.11; p = 0.014), left ventricle (LV) ejection fraction (β = 0.15; p = 0.001), and LA enlargement (β = -0.19; p < 0.001) were the independent determinants of LA active emptying fraction. CONCLUSIONS: The independent determinants of LA contraction function were the heart rate, S, LV ejection fraction, LA enlargement, and E/e' ratio in candidates for CABG surgery.

Purpose: Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is an indicator of arterial stiffness, and is considered a marker of vascular damage. However, a genome-wide association study analyzing single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with brachial-ankle PWV (baPWV) has not been conducted in healthy populations. We performed this study to identify SNPs associated with baPWV in healthy populations in Korea. Materials and Methods: Genomic SNPs data for 2,407 individuals from three sites were analyzed as part of the Korean Genomic Epidemiologic Study. Without replication samples, we performed multivariable analysis as a post hoc analysis to verify the findings in site adjusted analysis. Healthy subjects aged between 40 and 70 years without self-reported history or diagnosis of hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease and cancer were included. We excluded subjects with a creatinine level >1.4 mg/dL (men) and 1.2 mg/dL (women). Results: In the site-adjusted association analysis, significant associations (P<$5{\times}10^{-8}$) with baPWV were detected for only 5 SNPs with low minor allele frequency. In multivariable analysis adjusted by age, sex, height, body mass index, mean arterial pressure, site, smoking, alcohol, and exercise, 11 SNPs were found to be associated (P<$5{\times}10^{-8}$) with baPWV. The 5 SNPs (P<$5{\times}10^{-8}$) linked to three genes (OPCML, PRR35 and RAB40C) were common between site-adjusted analysis and multivariable analysis. However, meta-analysis of the result from three sites for the 11 SNPs showed no significant associations. Conclusion: Using the recent standard for genome-wide association study, we did not find any evidence of significant association signals with baPWV.
Objective: To compare the therapeutic outcomes of laparoscopic hepatic resection (LHR) and laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation (LRFA) for single subcapsular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and Methods: We screened 244 consecutive patients who had received either LHR or LRFA between January 2014 and December 2016. The feasibility of LRFA in patients who underwent LHR was retrospectively assessed by two interventional radiologists. Finally, 60 LRFA-feasible patients who had received LHR and 29 patients who had received LRFA as the first treatment for a solitary subcapsular HCC between 1 cm and 3 cm were finally included. We compared the therapeutic outcomes, including local tumor progression (LTP), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and overall survival (OS) between the two groups before and after propensity score (PS) matching. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression was also used to evaluate the difference in OS and RFS between the two groups for all 89 patients. Results: PS matching yielded 23 patients in each group. The cumulative LTP and OS rates were not significantly different between the LHR and LRFA groups after PS matching (p = 0.900 and 0.003, respectively). The 5-year LTP rates were 4.6% and 4.4%, respectively, and OS rates were 100% and 90.7%, respectively. The RFS rate was higher in LHR group without statistical significance (p = 0.070), with 5-year rates of 78.3% and 45.3%, respectively. OS was not significantly different between the LHR (reference) and LRFA groups in multivariable analyses, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 1.33 (95% confidence interval, 0.12-1.54) (p = 0.818). RFS was higher in LHR (reference) than in LRFA without statistical significance in multivariable analysis, with an HR of 2.01 (0.87-4.66) (p = 0.102). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in therapeutic outcomes between LHR and LRFA for single subcapsular HCCs measuring 1-3 cm. The difference in RFS should be further evaluated in a larger study.

Background: Major pulmonary resection after neoadjuvant concurrent chemoradiation therapy (nCCRT) is associated with a substantial risk of postoperative complications. This study investigated postoperative complications and associated risk factors to facilitate the selection of suitable surgical candidates following nCCRT in stage IIIA-N2 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with clinical stage IIIA-N2 NSCLC who underwent surgical resection following nCCRT between 1997 and 2013. Perioperative characteristics and clinical factors associated with morbidity and mortality were analyzed using univariable and multivariable logistic regression. Results: A total of 574 patients underwent major lung resection after induction CCRT. Thirty-day and 90-day postoperative mortality occurred in 8 patients (1.4%) and 41 patients (7.1%), respectively. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (n=6, 4.5%) was the primary cause of in-hospital mortality. Morbidity occurred in 199 patients (34.7%). Multivariable analysis identified significant predictors of morbidity, including patient age exceeding 70 years (odds ratio [OR], 1.8; p=0.04), low body mass index (OR, 2.6; p=0.02), and pneumonectomy (OR, 1.8; p=0.03). Patient age over 70 years (OR, 1.8; p=0.02) and pneumonectomy (OR, 3.26; p<0.01) were independent predictors of mortality in the multivariable analysis. Conclusion: In conclusion, the surgical outcomes following nCCRT are less favorable for individuals aged over 70 years or those undergoing pneumonectomy. Special attention is warranted for these patients due to their heightened risks of respiratory complications. In high-risk patients, such as elderly patients with decreased lung function, alternative treatment options like definitive CCRT should be considered instead of surgical resection.
In this paper we propose direct and indirect adaptive controllers for a nonlinear multivariable steam generating unit(200MW). In the direct adaptive scheme the estimation of the controller parameter are achieved from tracking error, while in the indirect approach the unknown parameter of the boiler system is estimated by the Hopfield network-based identifier. The performance of two proposed adaptive controllers is shown through simulations.
This paper presents the design and development of an optimal fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for a laser tracking system. An optimal intelligent fuzzy logic controller was founded on integral criterion of the fuzzy models and three-dimensional fuzzy control. Research had been also concentrated on the methods for multivariable fuzzy models for the purposes of real-time process. Simulation results have shown remarkable tracking performance of this fuzzy PID controller.

The design problem of optimal constant PIDM (proportional-integral-derivative and measurable variable) feedback controller for linear time-invariannt systems is investigated with the time-weighted quadratic performance index. Necessary conditions for an optimality of the controller are derived and an algorithm for computing the optimal feedback gain is presented. It is shown via example that the design mithod using the time-weighted quadratic performance index improves the transient responses of the closed-loop system.

An image of a set that produces a multiset from an ordinary set and its extension to fuzzy multisets is considered. For each input element, its image is added to the output regardless whether or not there already exists the same image in the output. theoretical properties such as commutativity of the image with $\alpha$-cut or multiset addition are proved. Generalization to the image by multivariable functions is moreover defined.
