We investigated the classification of learner groups for students' mathematical modeling competency and analyzed the characteristics in each profile group for each country and variable using PISA 2012 data from six countries. With a perspective on measuring sub-competency, we applied the latent profile analysis method to student achievement for mathematical modeling variables - Formulate, Employ, Interpret. The findings showed the presence of 4-6 profile groups, with the variables exhibiting high and low achievement within each profile group varying by country, and a hierarchical structure was observed in the profile group distribution in all countries, interestingly, the Formulate variable showed the largest difference between high-achieving and low-achieving profile groups. These results have significant implications. Comparison by country, variable, and profile group can provide valuable insights into understanding the various characteristics of students' mathematical modeling competency. The Formulate variable could serve as the most suitable predictor of a student's profile group and the score range of other variables. We suggest further studies to gain more detailed insights into mathematical modeling competency with different cultural contexts.

Conceptual modeling is well suited as a subject that constitutes the "core" of the Information Systems (IS) discipline and has grown in response to IS development. Several modeling grammars and methods have been studied extensively in the IS discipline. Previous studies, however, present deficiencies in research methods and even put forward contradictory results about the ternary relationship in conceptual modeling. For instance, some studies contend that the semantics of a binary relationship are better for novices, but others argue that a ternary relationship is better than three binary relationships when the association among three entity types clearly exists. The objective of this research is to acquire complete and accurate understanding of the ternary relationship, specifically to understand practitioners' modeling performance when utilizing either a ternary or binary relationship. To the best of our knowledge, no previous work clearly compares real-world modeler performance differences between binary and ternary representations. By investigating practitioners' understanding of ternary relationship and identifying practitioners' cognition, this research can broaden the perspective on conceptual modeling.
This study aims to analyze statistical tasks in Korean and Singaporean textbooks with the mathematical modeling perspective and compare the learning contents and experiences of students from both countries. I analyzed mathematical modeling tasks in the textbooks based on five aspects: (1) the mathematical modeling process, (2) the data type, (3) the expression type, (4) the context, and (5) the mathematical activity. The results of this study show that Korean and Singaporean textbooks provide the highest percentage of the "working-with-mathematics" task, the highest percentage of the "matching task," and the highest percentage of the "picture" task. The real-world context and mathematical activities used in Korean and Singaporean textbooks differed in percentage. This study provides implications for the development of textbook tasks to support future mathematical modeling activities. This includes providing a balanced experience in mathematical modeling processes and presenting tasks in various forms of expression to raise students' cognitive level and expand the opportunity to experience meaningful mathematizing. In addition, it is necessary to present a contextually realistic task for students' interest in mathematical modeling activities or motivation for learning.
Internet shopping mall has dual nature of information technology features defined by the web-based application system and marketing features explained by the shopping marketplaces. The purpose of this study aims at analyzing the consumer's attempt to purchase and re-purchase intention to the internet shopping mall to combine the IT perspective and the marketing perspective. This paper develop the integrated research model with the acceptance behaviors of customers through consumer's purchase decision process(pre-purchase stage and post-purchase stage). The results from an empirical survey as follows: First, the integrated model is valid in predicting the acceptance of the internet shopping malls by using structured equation modeling. Second, there are the differences between pre-purchase stage and post-purchase stage by each conceptual constructs. Finally, the results of MSEM(Multi-group Structured Equation Modeling) indicate the perceived ease of use and perceived trust to the attitude to the internet shopping mall is more effectively predicted at the pre-purchase stage. Vice versa, the perceived usefulness to the intention to the purchase intention of internet shopping mall is more effectively predicted at the post-purchase stage. This study provides an integrative approach to develop the effective and successful internet shopping mall strategy.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to empirically verify an ePortfolio success model which shows the structural causal relationships among the basic modeling constructs. We developed the success model based on DeLone and Mclean(2003) from IS perspective and on Balaban et al(2013) from ePortfolio perspective. And we are focused on the success of ePortfolio system designed for college students and professors. Design/methodology/approach Structural equation modeling techniques were applied to data collected 375 users of the ePortfolio system, K-Folio, at least one semester during one academic year. The structural model was analyzed using a Lisrel 8.54 statistical program. Findings The followings are the findings of the study. First, the constructs of IS success model are well applied to ePortfolio for college education. Second, the proposed model which has direct causal relationships from ePortfolio's quality to performance is more significant than the D&M and Balaban's model(2013). Third, the information quality among ePortfolio quality constructs does not have effect on system usability and performance. It means that information contents' quality issued by professor or system manager is not satisfied with the students yet. Finally, by using indirect analysis of structural equation model, we found that the ePortfolio operation manager should focus on ensuring system maintenance activities and providing fast and accurate services for improving ePortfolio performance.

Recently, due to the popularity of object-oriented programming languages, object-oriented modeling and development methodologies become widely applied to information system development. When object-oriented methodology is adopted, using object-oriented modeling languages for business analysis and redesign has the advantages such that business modeling results can be easily understood and referred by information system developers. In this paper, UML-B, Unified Modeling Language extension for Business modeling is proposed, which uses UML notation for modeling organization structure, actors, use cases, business processes, and entities in business systems. It also utilizes extension mechanisms of UML to facilitate business modeling activities, and supports business process reengineering with object-oriented modeling.
In this paper the modeling and control of a twin roll strip caster is investigated. Mathematical models for the strip casting process are obtained by analyzing five critical areas such that the molten steel level in the pool, solidification process, roll separating force and torque, roll dynamics including hydraulic actuators, and roll drive system. A two-level control strategy is proposed. At lower level, three local subsystems are independently feedback-controlled by suitable local controllers which perform well to the behaviors of each subsystem. They are a variable structure control of the molten steel level in the pool, an adaptive predictive control of the roll gap which is directly related to the strip thickness, and an $H^{\infty}$ control of the roll drive system. At higher level, all reference signals to the lower level subsystems are generated by an optimal controller in the perspective of regulating the strip thickness and roll separating force. Simulations are provided..

The geometric process (GP) has been widely used for modeling failure and repair time sequences of repairable systems. The GP is mathematically tractable but restrictive in reliability applications since it actually assumes that the mean function of inter-failure times sequence asymptotically decreases to zero; and the mean function of successive repair times sequence asymptotically increases to infinity. This is generally unrealistic from an engineering perspective. This paper presents three extended GP models for modeling reliability deterioration and improvement (or growth) process. The extensions maintain the advantage of mathematical tractability of GP model. Their usefulness and appropriateness are illustrated with three real-world examples.
A sample of 322 18-month-old infants and their mothers were assessed longitudinally at 24 and 30 months. Maternal utterances and styles of linguistic interaction were measured during a 10 minute free play session. Mothers completed a vocabulary checklist for infants. Longitudinal data were analyzed by multilevel modeling. Results indicated that vocabulary increased with age of infants and the growth rate was highly predictable by the size of vocabulary at 18 months. The growth rate was strongly influenced by maternal questioning and feedback. The effect of the maternal linguistic input was constant with age. Gender differences in size of vocabulary did not vary systematically with age.
