Method for Designing Adaptive UI Based on User's Context in the Environment Including Mobile Device and Public Display Device (모바일 장치와 공용 디스플레이 장치를 포함하는 환경에서 사용자의 특성에 기반한 Adaptive UI 설계 방안)

  • The one of the most meaningful change in the recent ubiquitous environment is the omnipresence of public digital display device for providing ubiquitous information. It is the important issue to provide publicity as well as adaptive information to each user in the field of the public digital display device. This research proposes the idea ensuring fast response speed by the selection of user preference function. The preference function is selected by statistics using Zipf distribution in the system comprising mobile device and digital display device based on NFC (Near Field Communication). The idea is proved by CPM-GOMS model and the improvement of user response can be achieved.

  • The needs of larger screen in mobile device would be increased as the time of ubiquitous and convergence is coming. And, the type of mobile device has been evolved from bar, slide to row. Recently, the study on the multi-display screen which has seamless gap between two display panel has been published, and moreover the System On Chip(SOC) design strategy of core chip has been the most promising Field-Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) technology in the display system. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed the design technique of SOC and evaluated the effectiveness with Very high speed Hardware Description Language(VHDL) Intellectual Property (IP) for the operation of multi display device driver. Also, This IP design would be to allow any kind of user interface in control system.

Width Control in the Photo patterning of PDP Barrier Ribs

  • Barrier ribs in plasma display panels (PDPs) function to maintain the discharge space between the glass plates as well as to prevent optical cross-talking. The barrier ribs currently employed are typically $300{\mu}m$ pitch, $110{\sim}120{\mu}m$ in height, with upper and lower widths of $50{\mu}m$ and $80{\mu}m$, respectively. It has been reported that barrier ribs can be fabricated by screen-printing, sand blasting, etching and photolithographic processes. In this study, photosensitive barrier rib pastes were formulated and systematically evaluated in terms of photolithographic process variables such as printing, drying, UV exposure, development and sintering. It was found that the use of UV absorbent, polymerization inhibitor and surfactant were very effective in controlling the width uniformity of barrier ribs in the photolithographic method of barrier rib patterning.

  • Crosstalk has been regarded as one of inherent problems in a factor disturbing optimal viewing experiences. For this reason, display developers address the crosstalk issues. However, due to various display characteristics and viewing environments it is hard to estimate the crosstalk generated in real space. This paper proposes an interactive multi-view display simulator based on augmented reality for developing mobile autostereoscopic displays. This display simulator can be used for the developers to estimate the crosstalk and find optimal viewing zone intuitively. Typical parameters for mobile phone use are applied for the estimation. The proposed simulator provides visualized crosstalk in real space for them to determine better viewing zone interactively. The proposed system is expected to help establish ergonomic guidelines for mobile multi-view autostereoscopic display developers, designers, and viewers.

  • The 3D technology has been spread slowly and the reason would be attributed to the fact that most commercialized 3D displays require 3D glasses. There have been various researches on human factors of glass type 3D display. In this study we measured and modeled crosstalk as well as 3D visual fatigue induced by mobile glassless 3D display. Crosstalk as well as visual fatigue varied depending on horizontal position of the 3D mobile display. Measured crosstalk was relative low around the center of the display and it increased at the side of the display. Similar results were found in the measurement of 3D visual fatigue and discomfort. These results imply that human factors should be considered in the process of design and evaluation of mobile 3D displays.

  • A lot of research for system-on-panel(SOP) have been done to integrate display systems including data driver, gate driver, timing controller, DC-DC converter, and smart functions such as embedded touch screen, ambient brightness sensing and luminance control, finger printing on the glass. Recently, the cost of an one-chip driver IC with various functions has decreased rapidly, and new mobile display interface technologies have been introduced. So it is necessary to examine the feasibility of SOP for practical mobile applications. In this paper, we will re-examine LTPS technologies for mobile displays in terms of various aspects and discuss the practical limitations on SOP technology and future technology trend of mobile displays.

  • In the prior works on tabletop systems, a projection-based tabletop surface is mostly used to display computer images, and the participants interact with the display surface by hand multi-touching or using some tangible objects. In this research, however, we developed the FishBowl game that employs a scalable tabletop tiled display with infrared camera tracking coupled with PDA mobile interfaces. The focus of this game is to enhance user interactivity and realistic experience by coupling the high-resolution tabletop virtual environment and PDA mobile interface. This paper describes the game design followed by the system design and its detailed implementations. It also discusses the system usability and recommendation for its improvements after interviewing game players and then concludes with future research directions.

  • This paper addresses the simulation methodology of signal integrity and power integrity for mobile display modules. The proposed technique can be applied to analyse a circuit module which consist of connector, FPCB and driver ICs. The recent demand of serial interconnection technology in the mobile display industry needs delicate impedance control of signal and power traces to prohibit system malfunctioning and to reduce electromagnetic field radiation. Based on the S-parameter and Z-parameter analysis, we analyse the correlation between frequency-domain and time-domain measurements. With multi-port macros, signal integrity can be included in power integrity analysis in time domain.

  • Since Samsung SDI and Sony started mass production of AM-OLED display for mobile/TV applications, OLED technology has emerged as leading candidate among the many technologies under development for next generation Flat panel displays. P-OLED (Polymer Organic Lighting Emitting Diode) technology, a class of OLED, is gathering momentum towards commercialization. P-OLED technology has made tremendous progress in terms of display performance (including life time, efficiency and color gamut) and in the maturity of ink jet printing process and equipment. In order to get into the mobile/TV application market successfully, P-OLED display technology must meet the following display makers' requirements: (1) P-OLED Display Performance in terms of lifetime, efficiency, and color coordinates, (2) Low Cost Manufacturing Technology such as "Solution Processable Printing Technology". P-OLED technology has already overcome many of the hurdles to mass manufacturing. In this paper, the latest developments in ink jet printing technology, including P-OLED material performance, is discussed.

  • As DMB, 3D game, Internet and movie is serviced for the recent mobile devices, high resolution display devices beyond VGA become used. Implementation of real-time moving pictures of 30렌 by software programming is difficult because the performance of mobile processors is not so high. The full frame moving picture can be supported by using specific hardware. In this paper, an OLED controller that is consists of flash memory controller and OLED interface is proposed for real-time moving picture on mobile displays. The proposed OLED controller is implemented in FPGA and the performance is evaluated.
