  • In this paper, we propose an optimal fixed-lag FIR (Finite-Impulse-Response) smoother for a class of discrete time-varying state-space signal models. The proposed fixed-lag FIR smoother is linear with respect to inputs and outputs on the recent finite horizon and estimates the delayed state so that the variance of the estimation error is minimized with the unbiased constraint. Since the proposed smoother is derived with system inputs, it can be adapted to feedback control system. Additionally, the proposed smoother can give more general solution than the optimal FIR filter, because it reduced to the optimal FIR filter by setting the fixed-lag size as zero. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed smoother by comparing with an optimal FIR filter and a conventional fixed-lag Kalman smoother.

  • In this paper t he minimum variance unbiased, maximum likelihood and empirical estimators of the probability $P_r$ ($X_1<Y<X_2$) are obtained, where $X_1$, $X_2$ and Y are mutually independent exponential random variables. Comparison of estimators is discussed in the last section for illustraition.

  • In this paper we propose the several estimators of the Lorenz curve in the Pareto distribution and obtain the bias and the mean squared error for each estimator. We compare the proposed estimators with the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) and the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) in terms of the mean squared error (MSE) through Monte Carlo methods and discuss the results.

  • This paper considers the reliability estimation of a two-component shared-load system based on Freund model. Maximum likelihood estimator, order restricted maximum likelihood estimator and uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator of the reliability function for the system are obtained. Performance of three estimators for moderate sample sizes is studied by simulation.

  • This paper considers the problem of estimating the model parameters and reliability functions for Freund bivariate exponential distribution. Uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators for model parameters, joint reliability and marginal reliability functions are obtained in the both case of non-identically distributed marginals and identically distributed marginals.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of an appropriate sampling plan or stopping rule and the construction of estimate for the estimation of process or lot fraction defective. Various sampling plans which are well known or have potential applications are unified into a generalized sampling plan. Under this sampling plan sufficient statistic, probability distribution, moment, and minimum variance unbiased estimate are obtained. Results for various sampling plans can be derived as special cases. Then, under given parameter values, the relative efficiencies of the various sampling plans are compared with respect to expected sample sizes and variances of estimates.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a multivariate normal mean with an unknown covarience matrix under a weighted sum of squared error losses. We first provide hierarchical Bayes estimators which shrink the usual (maximum liklihood, uniformly minimum variance unbiased) estimator towards a regression surface and then prove the admissibility of these estimators using Blyth's (1951) method.

  • The best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) is most suitable for practical application and can be determined with knowledge of only the first and second moments of the probability density function. Although the BLUE is an existing algorithm, it is still largely unexplored and has not yet been applied to channel estimation in amplify and forward (AF)-based wireless relay networks (WRNs). In this paper, a BLUE-based algorithm is proposed to estimate the overall channel impulse response between the source and destination of AF strategy-based WRNs. Theoretical mean square error (MSE) performance for the BLUE is derived to show the accuracy of the proposed channel estimation algorithm. In addition, the Cram$\acute{e}$r-Rao lower bound (CRLB) is derived to validate the MSE performance. The proposed BLUE channel estimation algorithm approaches the CRLB as the length of the training sequence and number of relays increases. Further, the BLUE performs better than the linear minimum MSE estimator due to the minimum variance characteristic exhibited by the BLUE, which happens to be a function of signal-to-noise ratio.

  • A stress-strength model is formulated for s of k systems consisting of identical components. We consider minimum variance unbiased (MVU) estimation of system reliability for data consisting of a random sample from the stress distribution and one from the strength distribution when the two distirubtions are Weibull with unknown scale parameters and same known shape parameter. The asymptotic distribution of MVU estimate of system reliability in the model is obtained by using the standard asymptotic properties of the maximum likelihood estimate of system reliability and establishing their equivalence. Uniformly most accurate unbiased confidence intervals are also obtained for system reliability. Empirical comparison of the two estimates for small samples is studies by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • For a two-parameter Pareto distribution, the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimateors(UMVUE) for the function of the two parameters are expressed in terms of confluent hypergeometric function. The variance of the UMVUE is also expressed in terms of hypergeometric function of several variables. UMVUE's for the ${\gamma}th$ moment about zero and several useful parametric functions, and their variances are obtained as special cases. The estimators of Baxter(1980) and Saksena and Johnson(1984) are special cases of our estimator.
