In this paper, we propose three new text-independent speaker identification methods. At first, to exclude the frames not having enough features of speaker's vocal from calculation of the maximum likelihood, we propose the FS(Frame Selection) method. This approach selects the important frames by evaluating the difference between the biggest likelihood and the second in each frame, and uses only the frames in calculating the score of likelihood. Our secondly proposed, called the Hybrid, is a combined version of the FS and WMR(Weighting Model Rank). This method determines the claimed speaker using exponential function weights, instead of likelihood itself, only on the selected frames obtained from the FS method. The last proposed, called MWMR (Modified WMR), considers both original likelihood itself and its relative position, when the claimed speaker is determined. It is different from the WMR that take into account only the relative position of likelihood. Through the experiments of the speaker identification, we show that the all the proposed have higher identification rates than the ML. In addition, the Hybrid and MWMR have higher identification rate about 2% and about 3% than WMR, respectively.

In this paper, a penalized maximum likelihood estimation (PMLE) method that applies a penalty to increase the accuracy of a basis-screening-based Kriging model (BSKM) is introduced. The maximum order and set of basis functions used in the BSKM are determined according to their importance. In this regard, the cross-validation error (CVE) for the basis functions is employed as an indicator of importance. When constructing the Kriging model (KM), the maximum order of basis functions is determined, the importance of each basis function is evaluated according to the corresponding maximum order, and finally the optimal set of basis functions is determined. This optimal set is created by adding basis functions one by one in order of importance until the CVE of the KM is minimized. In this process, the KM must be generated repeatedly. Simultaneously, hyper-parameters representing correlations between datasets must be calculated through the maximum likelihood evaluation method. Given that the optimal set of basis functions depends on such hyper-parameters, it has a significant impact on the accuracy of the KM. The PMLE method is applied to accurately calculate hyper-parameters. It was confirmed that the accuracy of a BSKM can be improved by applying it to Branin-Hoo problem.
Diffusion is a mathematical tool to explain the fluctuation of financial assets and the movement of particles in a micro time scale. There are ongoing statistical trials to develop an estimation method for diffusion models based on likelihood. When we estimate diffusion models by applying the maximum likelihood estimation method on data observed at discrete time points, we need to know the transition density of the diffusion. In order to approximate the transition densities of diffusion models, we suggests the method to approximate the path integral of the random process with normal random variables, and compare the numerical properties of the method with other approximation methods.

Many studies have estimated a mixture of binomial distributions. This paper considers an extension, a mixture of shifted binomial distributions, and the estimation of the distribution. The range of each component binomial distribution is rst evaluated and then for each possible value of shifted parameters, the EM algorithm is employed to estimate those parameters. From a set of possible value of shifted parameters and corresponding estimated parameters of the distribution, the likelihood of given data is determined. The simulation results verify the performance of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose some estimators for the extreme value distribution based on the interval method and mid-point approximation method from the progressive Type-I interval censored sample. Because log-likelihood function is a non-linear function, we use a Taylor series expansion to derive approximate likelihood equations. We compare the proposed estimators in terms of the mean squared error by using the Monte Carlo simulation.

In this paper we study the Hellinger distance based goodness-of-fit tests that are analogs of likelihood ratio tests. The minimum Hellinger distance estimator (MHDE) in normal models provides an excellent robust alternative to the usual maximum likelihood estimator. Our simulation results show that the Hellinger deviance test (Simpson 1989) based goodness-of-fit test is robust when data contain outliers. The proposed hellinger deviance test(Simpson 1989) is a more direcct method for obtaining robust inferences than an automated outlier screen method used before the likelihood ratio test data analysis.

We propose a method for estimating coefficients of AR (autoregressive) model which named MLPAR (Maximum Likelihood of Pearson system for Auto-Regressive model). In the present method for estimating coefficients of AR model, there is an assumption that residual or error term of the model follows the normal distribution. In common cases, we can observe that the error of AR model does not follow the normal distribution. So the normal assumption will cause decreasing prediction accuracy of AR model. In the paper, we propose the MLPAR which does not assume the normal distribution of error term. The MLPAR estimates coefficients of auto-regressive model and distribution moments of residual by using pearson distribution system and maximum likelihood estimation. Comparing proposed method to auto-regressive model, results are shown to verify improved performance of the MLPAR in terms of prediction accuracy.

This paper proposes a new estimation method based on the maximum product of spacings for estimating unknown parameters of the three-parameter Weibull distribution under a generalized Type-II progressive hybrid censoring scheme which guarantees a constant number of observations and an appropriate experiment duration. The proposed approach is appropriate for a situation where the maximum likelihood estimation is invalid, especially, when the shape parameter is less than unity. Furthermore, it presents the enhanced performance in terms of the bias through the Monte Carlo simulation. In particular, the superiority of this approach is revealed even under the condition where the maximum likelihood estimation satisfies the classical asymptotic properties. Finally, to illustrate the practical application of the proposed approach, the real data analysis is conducted, and the superiority of the proposed method is demonstrated through a simple goodness-of-fit test.

The intraclass correlation model has a long history of applications in several fields of research. Case deletion diagnostic methods for the intraclass correlation model are proposed. Based on the likelihood equations, we derive a formula for a case deletion diagnostic method which enables us to investigate the influence of observations on the maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters. Using the Taylor series expansion we develop an approximation to the likelihood distance. Numerical examples are provided for illustration.

In multinomial scheme with step-wise sampling, maximum likelihood estimates of multinomial probabilities are improved when some frequencies are merged. In this study, for cell probabilities in a I by J independent contingency tables, exact MLE and step-wise estimation methods are applied and the results are compared using MSE and Bias.
