  • The purpose of this study is to assess the changes that occur to pre-service mathematics teachers by using survey on the self-reflection during their education practices. For four weeks of the education practice period, the changes to pre-service teachers are analyzed from teaching and learning perspectives. The teaching perspective is sub-categorized into lesson contents, teaching methods, and evaluation on teaching, and the learning perspective is sub-categorized into monitoring on learning, support for learning and evaluation on learning. The analysis shows that significant changes occur in teaching contents from the teaching perspective and in all the sub-categories from the learning perspective. Based on the analysis, preservice teachers are suggested to utilize self-reflection programs during their education practices to promote their professionalism in teaching.

  • The present study was conducted to review the definitions and methods of teaching reflection and then suggest the criteria for analyzing mathematics teaching reflection. The reason for addressing the teaching reflection, which recently attracts considerable attention, was that it would enhance the professional growth of mathematics teachers. The review of the prior studies shows that the hitherto proposed criteria which could be used for analyzing mathematics teaching reflection are inadequate and unsystematic. Further, it was revealed that the self-assessment checklists put forward by previous studies were overly ramified, and thus it seems that an integrative approach should be taken in order to establish the relevant criteria for analyzing mathematics teaching reflection. Considering these findings, the present study suggests the pre-lesson, in-lesson, and post-lesson criteria for analyzing leaching reflection for the subject of mathematics and the attendant questions posed to teachers.

  • Recently, a number of researches acknowledge the importance of 'reflection' and 'reflective teacher education,' and they highlight the implication of 'reflection' on the teacher's profession or the teacher education. The reflective thought is interpreted as a subject that should be taught or a sort of strategy that a teacher should learn, while the aspect is excluded that reflection is the interaction between the innate knowledge and the practice. As a result, the reflective teacher education programs that increase the level of reflection are developed and practiced, and the reflection is accepted as a tool for increasing teacher professionalism. Reflective teaching is en essential and basic element for the development of teacher knowledge. In particular, such teacher knowledge might be being gradually expanded by a teacher's self-assessment on reflection on his own instruction. For this reason, this study develops an assessment framework on instruction which is comprized of teacher knowledge and instructional process. To accomplish this, in this study, teacher knowledge is considered as a whole practice knowledge combined by subject matter knowledge, understanding of learners, teaching and learning methods and assessment, and instructional environment. Also, success on instruction in mathematics class might depend on the acquisition of teacher knowledge, instructional planning, instructional execution, and furthermore reflection on instruction. Especially, this study emphasizes that 'reflection on instruction', the most important step of instruction be reflected and examined by the teacher himself.

  • This study examined what questions posed, and for arranging the matters, what decisions made, what practices put into by elementary preservice teachers during his or her enacting and reflecting mathematics teaching. Analysis of the study focused on the mathematics instructions practiced by four participants in practicum for senior students. Their own questions raised by each one in the instructional designs, performances, and reflections were picked out and categorized by five dimensions of mathematics instruction; the nature of classroom tasks, the role of the teacher, the social culture of the classroom, mathematical tools as learning supports, and equity and accessibility. Their instructional decision-makings and action-takings for answering to these questions were analised.

  • Teacher reflection as a form of professional development has been an enduring interest in education that can be traced back to Dewey. Information about how teachers interpret and analyze their students' learning would help us understand difficulties in teaching and learning. Moreover, it can be useful for teacher education by improving teaching methods. The purpose of this research was to understand how mathematics teachers reflected on their students' understanding. For the purpose of this study, I investigated four U.S.A. mathematics teachers in a middle school. In particular, I discussed Assess instances among the teachers' reflections on their students' thinking and changes of the reflections as time went by. The results showed two different types of Assess instances and shifts by time.

  • This study analyzed the lesson analysis reports and survey of pre-service teachers who have practiced the microteaching in order to identify the reflection of mathematics pre-service teachers. The professors who are teaching pre-service teachers need to propose the examples of an instructional model that can induce the opened reaction and the effective usage of time through interesting topics. In addition, pre-service teachers who have practiced the first microteaching have shown a lot of reflection more than expected. Therefore, to improve the quality of lectures, it is important for pre-service teachers to have experiences of microteaching and reflection.

  • Teaching competence is the best part of mathematics teachers's competence. It need to make instruction plan by oneself, systematic self-reflection and improvement in instruction performance for development of teaching competence of pre-service mathematics teacher. So teaching practicum is the necessary process to teaching experience. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop an component and application procedure of Teaching portfolio for improvement teaching component of pre-service mathematics teacher in teaching practicum. It is effective in improving teaching component of pre-service mathematics teacher after make Teaching portfolio for improvement teaching component in teaching practicum.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service teachers' perceptions and their difficulties of mathematics instruction. Pre-service teachers have positive perceptions about teaching students and teaching profession through teaching practicum. In addition, they have perceived that teaching practicum can enhance teaching methods for their students. Especially, they suggested that cooperating teachers' instruction and mathematics teachers and their colleagues' classroom observation are important factors to improve their teaching methods. In other hands, they have difficulties in application of questions encouraging mathematical thinking, attention concentration considering students' interest and planning and performing for mathematics instruction class according to levels of students' study abilities. Based upon this study's findings, teacher education institutes should make efforts to alleviate difficulties in mathematics instruction through effective teaching practicum such as regular reflection activities for their classes, programs development associated with schools, pre-training and education programs for guidance teachers.

  • The purpose of the study is to introduce how tessellation can be used and integrated to connect geometry to pattern in elementary mathematics educations. Tessellation examples include transformations such as translational symmetry, rotational symmetry, reflection symmetry, and glide reflection symmetry. In addition, many examples of tessellation using softwares such as Escher, TesselMania!, and LOGO programs. Further, future study will continue to foster students and teachers to try to construct their alive mathematics knowledge. The study of geometry and patterns require a rich teaching and learning environment provided by in-depth understanding of thinking connections to objects in real world.
