In this paper, we applied NIE(Newspaper In Education) to the course of study for statistics unit of elementary mathematics which can improve students' abilities of concept of statistics, analyzing data and problem solving so they can do these with direct activity by themselves and find out how NIE effects on children's learning achievement for statistics unit and more effective solution for the course of study for elementary mathematics.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends of domestic research on mathematics teacher education in terms of the period, topics, methods, subjects, and mathematics content strands. For this purpose, a total of 220 research articles dealing with mathematics teacher education were analyzed, which have been published since 2000 by the Korean Society of Mathematics Education in the three journals: (a) The Mathematical Education; (b) Education of Primary School Mathematics; and (c) Communications of Mathematical Education. Regarding the period when the research was conducted, the number of articles on mathematics teacher education has been rapidly increased since the late 2000s. Regarding the topics, research on teacher orientation has been the most frequent topic and the studies dealing with professional development for teachers, teaching practices, or teacher knowledge tend to be popular. Regarding methods, survey and case study have been most frequently employed in studying mathematics teacher education. Regarding subjects, the main participants were in-service teachers, pre-service teachers, elementary school teachers, and secondary school teachers, respectively, who were in charge of a regular class. Finally, regarding mathematics content strands, previous studies on mathematics teacher education were not specific to mathematics content strands. Given these results, this paper closes with important implications for future research directions on mathematics teacher education in Korea.
This study intends to develop and apply elementary mathematics program for gifted students based on a 'constant width shape' in order to keep pace with the STEAM education which is becoming the main issue and therefore, it set up research subject as follows; To introduce constant width shapes through 'a circle' which is a constant width shape under present education process and based on this, to search a theory about constant width shapes and reuleaux triangles. To arrange an elementary mathematics program for gifted students according to the part 3 enrichment study model of Renzulli. To revise supplement the program on the basis of field application result twice and then to materialize the program. It is expected that the developed program and study data will suggest mathematical ideas and direction of materials development in education sites of elementary mathematics program for gifted students.
This study deals with the problem of transition from arithmetic to algebra and the relationship between elementary and secondary school mathematics for systems of linear equations. In elementary school, activity for solving word problems related to systems of linear equations in two variables falls broadly into using two strategies: Guess and check and making a table. In secondary school, those problems are solved algebraically, for example, by solving systems of equations using the technique of elimination. The analysis of mathematics textbooks shows that there is no link between strategies of elementary school mathematics and secondary school mathematics. We devised an alternative way to reinforce link between elementary and secondary school mathematics for systems of linear equations. Drawing a diagram can be introduced as a strategy solving word problems related to systems of linear equations in two variables in elementary school. Moreover it is closely related to the idea of the technique of elimination of secondary school mathematics. It may be a critical juncture of elementary-secondary school mathematics in the case of systems of linear equations in two variables.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the understanding of basic knowledge of mathematics for $6^{th}$ grade students in elementary school by an essay test and provide instructional suggestions for teachers. A total of 132 students from 6 classes in 3 elementary schools were tested and analyzed in terms of the characteristics of correct answers and types of incorrect answers. The results showed that students had poor understanding of basic conceptual concepts and principles throughout six content areas of school mathematics curriculum, despite their good performance on mathematical skills. This study included implications to teaching and learning for each of the content areas.
In this article, we compared and analyzed the Korean 7th National Mathematics textbooks and Harcourt Math textbooks in America focused on the area of geometry for the elementary school students. We expect that this article would contribute to the elementary school teacher for the reorganization of the elementary school mathematics curriculums.
With the importance and necessity of using AI in the field of education, this study aims to explore elementary school teachers' perceptions of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in mathematics education. For this purpose, we conducted a survey using a 5-point Likert scale with 161 elementary school teachers and analyzed their perceptions of mathematics education with AI via four categories (i.e., Attitude of using AI, AI for teaching mathematics, AI for learning mathematics, and AI for assessing mathematics performance). As a result, elementary school teachers displayed positive perceptions of the usefulness of AI applications to teaching, learning, and assessment of mathematics. Specifically, they strongly agreed that AI could assist personalized teaching and learning, supplement prerequisite learning, and analyze the results of assessment. They also agreed that AI in mathematics education would not replace the teacher's role. The results of this study also showed that the teachers exhibited diverse perceptions ranging from negative to neutral to positive. The teachers reported that they were less confident and prepared to teach mathematics using AI, with significant differences in their perceptions depending on whether they enacted mathematics lessons with AI or received professional training courses related to AI. We discuss the implications for the role of teachers and pedagogical supports to effectively utilize AI in mathematics education.

The purpose of the study was to examine the current status of prospective elementary school teachers' mathematical beliefs. 339 future elementary school teachers majoring in mathematics education from 4 universities participated in the study. The questionnaire used in the TEDS-M(Tatto et al., 2008) was translated into Korean for the purpose of the study. The researchers analyzed the pre-service elementary teachers' beliefs about the nature of mathematics and about mathematics learning. Also, the results of the survey was analyzed by various aspects. To determine differences between the groups, one-way analysis of variance was used. To check the relationship between beliefs about the nature of mathematics and about the mathematics learning, correlation analysis was used. The results of the study revealed that the pre-service elementary teachers tends to believe that the nature of mathematics as 'process of inquiry' rather than 'rules and procedures' which is a view that mathematics as ready-made knowledge. In addition, the pre-service elementary teachers tend to consider 'active learning' as desirable aspects in mathematics teaching-learning practice, while 'teacher's direction' was not. We found that there were statistically significant correlation between 'process of inquiry' and 'active learning' and between 'rules and procedures' and 'teacher direction'. On the basis of these results, more extensive and multifaced research on mathematical beliefs should be needed to design curriculum and plan lessons for future teachers.
The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematics self-efficacy test tool for elementary school students based on the sub-factors of mathematical self-efficacy derived from current studies. In this study, I verified the validity and reliability of the test tool by statistically evaluating the results of applying the test tool to the 3rd-6th grade students. In this study, Principal Component Analysis was performed on the tool for measuring the self efficacy of mathematics for elementary school students. For the validity test, the mathematics anxiety status of the participants was measured. The mathematics anxiety who were known to have a negative correlation with the mathematical self efficacy. The mathematics self efficacy tool developed in this study consists of 16 items with three subcategories: master experience, social persuasions, and emotional and physiological state. The mathematical self efficacy test tool developed in this study is expected to provide grounds for diagnosing the mathematics self-efficacy status of elementary school students and looking for ways to improve it.
The purpose of this study to analyze correlation for the tendency of mathematics anxiety, traits according to the factors of mathematics anxiety and mathematics attitude depending on the teacher variable through a survey of mathematics anxiety and attitude toward mathematics on teaching mathematics of elementary school teachers. To solve the questions above, sampled 250 elementary school teachers in Daegu province. As a result of the study, mathematics anxiety on teaching is not actually formed a lot. However, the more training experience with mathematics, previous academic career, education career were, the lower mathematics anxiety was. The results showed that mathematics anxiety is affected by previous academic career, training experience with mathematics in particular. In addition, we found that mathematics anxiety is affected by mathematics anxiety in their school, recognition of the ability to explain mathematics contents and attitudes toward mathematics.
