The purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing their mathematical learning abilities and mathematical learning potential in an attempt to assist their learning at the preschool level. The findings of the study were as follows : First. the female children performed at a much higher level than their male counterparts in terms of mathematical learning ability and mathematical learning potential training. The young children generally improved in their mathematical learning abilities and mathematical learning potential with age. Second, it was found that the participants had higher levels of both mathematical learning ability and mathematical learning potential when their mathematical attitudes and learning motivation were better. Third, there were significant differences in terms training-test and transfer-test scores between the 4 groups based on their relative levels of mathematical abilities and attitudes.
This study examined difficulties middle school students have in learning mathematics and proposed a flipped classroom consisting of Khan Academy activities, small-group problem solving, and mathematical modeling to help improve their learning. A mixed-method approach was used to identify difficulties students have in learning mathematics, explore how the flipped classroom helped them reduce the learning difficulties identified, and examine if there were differences in students' mathematics achievement and their affective characteristics after participating in the flipped classroom. Qualitative analyses showed that students had difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts and finding effective ways to learn as well as negative views towards learning mathematics. This study also found that each activity of the flipped classroom had a different impact on student learning. Before class, the Khan Academy activities were most likely to help students understand mathematical concepts. In class, small-group problem solving activities were most helpful for students who had trouble finding effective learning methods and environments. Mathematical modeling activities were most likely effective in changing students' negative views towards mathematics. A quantitative analysis showed that the flipped classroom not only significantly improved the students' mathematics achievement, but also positively affected their confidence and motivation and how much they valued learning mathematics.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of counting ability on young children's mathematical ability and mathematical learning potential. The subjects in this study were 75 young children of 4 & 5 years old who attended kindergartens and child care center in the city of B. They were evaluated in terms of counting ability, mathematical ability and mathematical learning potential(training and transfer) and the correlation between sub-factors and their relative influence on the partipants' mathematical ability was then analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows : First, there was a close correlation between the sub-factors of counting and those of mathematical ability. As a result of checking the relative influence of the sub-factors of counting on mathematical ability, reverse counting was revealed to have the largest impact on total mathematical ability scores and each sub-factors including algebra, number and calculation, geometry and measurement. Second, the results revealed a strong correlation between counting ability and mathematical learning ability. Regarding the size of the relative influence of the sub-factors of counting ability on training scores, reverse counting was found to be most influential, followed by continuous counting. While in relation to transfer scores, reverse counting was found to exert the greatest influence.
This paper considers learning and teaching of mathematical analysis in teachers college. It concentrates on showing a way how learning and teaching of mathematical analysis should be considered for mathematical teachers training. It is composed of five chapters including Chapter I as an introduction and Chapter Vasa concluding remarks. Chapter II deals with goal and contents of global mathematical analysis. The main Chapter, named Chapter III, demonstrates exhibition of contents, way of operations, and contents of teaching and learning of mathematical real analysis. Chapter IV shows an example of learning and teaching of mathematical real analysis concerning to fixed points and approximate solutions.
Problem-centered learning reflects learning strategy based on constructivism. In this learning, students should find the solution in a small group discussion, and share their solutions with classmates in whole class discussion. So students participate in mathematics instruction actively and interact with other students about the strategies. We expect students would change their attitudes on mathematics and mathematical learning in these processes. In this study, we analyzed students' attitudes on mathematics and mathematical learning when they participated the problem-centered learning program. We found the change of students' attitudes to mathematics via problem-centered learning.
This study is a basic study for developing a mathematical learning application program that can be used in smart devices for adaptive learning. We selected 20 mathematical learning applications including middle school contents and analyzed learning types. And we analyzed the contents and the learning process. As a result, most learning types of mathematics learning applications were problem-centered. Contents analysis results showed that the most applications have achievement goals. The factors that induce interest in learning were lacking and feedback was not provided sufficiently. Analysis of the learning process showed that most of the math learning applications were classified according to their purpose and characteristics.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the selection difference of mathematical problem solving strategy by mathematical learning style, that is, the intellectual, emotional, and physiological factors of students, to allow teachers to instruct the mathematical problem solving strategy most pertinent to the student personality, and ultimately to contribute to enhance mathematical problem solving ability of the students. The conclusion of the study is the followings: (1) Students who studies with autonomous, steady, or understanding-centered effort was able to solve problems with more strategies respectively than the students who did not; (2) Student who studies autonomously or reconfirms one's learning was able to select more proper strategy and to explain the strategy respectively than the students who did not; and (3) The differences of the preference to the strategy are variable, and more than half of the students were likely to select frequently the strategy 'to use a formula or a principle' regardless of the learning style.
The purpose of this study is to develop a teaching/learning model for the mathematical enculturation of elementary and secondary school students. It is clear that the development of teaching and learning in the classroom is essential for the realization of global innovations in mathematics education. Research questions for this purpose are as follow: (1) What can be learned from literatures reviews of the socio-cultural perspective on mathematics education, and of ethnomathematics as a mathematics intrinsic to cultural activities? (2) What is the direction of teaching and learning from the perspective of mathematical enculturation? (3) What is the teaching /learning model for mathematical enculturation? (4) What is the instructional exemplification based on the developed model? This study promotes the establishment of mathematics education theory from the review of literatures on the socio-cultural perspective, the development of a teaching/learning model, and the instructional exemplification based on the developed model.
