  • Statement of problem: Br${\aa}$nemark or ITI are two currently most widely used implant systems but with contrasting design, surgical and restoration methods. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare changes and its statistical significance in bone height and shape which may rise due to the differences between two implant systems. Also to analyse the effect of inter-implant distance on annual bone height changes. Material & Method: Those patients who were treated with two or more of either Br${\aa}$nemark or ITI implants at posterior mandibular area at Yonsei University Dental Hospital, Implant Clinic were selected. At annual examination appointments, standardised radiographs using parallel technique were taken. Marginal bone and inter-implant crestal bone changes were measured and following results were obtained. Results: 1) When ITI and Br${\aa}$nemark system were compared, both annual marginal and inter-implant crestal bone height changes in ITI system in the first two years were smaller than Br${\aa}$nemark and they were statistically significant. On the third year, however, there was no statistical difference between two implant systems on their annual bone level changes (p>0.05). 2) The Marginal and inter-implant crestal bone changes were compared when inter-implant distance was less than 4mm. Statistically significant bone level changes were noted on the first year only for ITI implants but in the first and second year for Br${\aa}$nemark implants (p>0.05). 3) When comparing angulation changes between marginal bone and implant fixture, ITI system had smaller angulation changes but the annual changes were not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, it could be concluded that Br${\aa}$nemark implant systems had more changes in marginal and inter-implant crestal bone level in the first and second year after loading with statistical significance. Further studies are recommended to see the effects of these bone loss during the first and second year after loading on the long term prognosis of Br${\aa}$nemark Implants.

  • In this paper we study pooling effects in Bayesian testing procedures of independence for contingency tables from small areas. In small area estimation setup, we typically use a hierarchical Bayesian model for borrowing strength across small areas. This techniques of borrowing strength in small area estimation is used to construct a Bayes test of independence for contingency tables from small areas. In specific, we consider the methods of direct or indirect pooling in multinomial models through Dirichlet priors. We use the Bayes factor (or equivalently the ratio of the marginal likelihoods) to construct the Bayes test, and the marginal density is obtained by integrating the joint density function over all parameters. The Bayes test is computed by performing a Monte Carlo integration based on the method proposed by Nandram and Kim (2002).

  • The paper analyzes and compares the effects of domestic monetary policy using DSGE, DSGE-VAR, and VAR based on a two-country open economy model of Korea and the U.S. According to impulse response analysis, a domestic interest rate hike raises won value in the case of DSGE and DSGE-VAR models, while in the case of the unrestricted VAR model, it lowers won value. In the marginal data density standard, DSGE-VAR (${\mu}=1$) is superior to DSGE or Bayesian VAR over the sample period. Conversely, in the in-sample RMSE criterion, especially for the won/dollar exchange rate, VARs are superior to DSGE or DSGE-VAR. It is necessary to study further if these differences are caused by model misspecification or omitted variable bias.

  • It is not easy to select a linear mixed model since the main interest for model building could be different and the number of parameters in the model could not be clearly defined. In this paper, performance of conditional Akaike Information Criteria and its bias-corrected version are compared with marginal Bayesian and Akaike Information Criteria through a simulation study. The results from the simulation study indicate that bias-corrected conditional Akaike Information Criteria shows promising performance when candidate models exclude large models containing the true model, but bias-corrected one prefers over-parametrized models more intensively when a set of candidate models increases. Marginal Bayesian and Akaike Information Criteria also have some difficulty to select the true model when the design for random effects is nested.

  • To test for the serial dependence in time series of counts data, Jung and Tremayne (2003) evaluated the size and power of several tests under the class of INARMA models based on binomial thinning operations for Poisson marginal distributions. The overdispersion phenomenon(i.e., a variance greater than the expectation) is common in the real world. Overdispersed count data can be modeled by using alternative thinning operations such as random coefficient thinning, iterated thinning, and quasi-binomial thinning. Such thinning operations can lead to time series models of counts with negative binomial or generalized Poisson marginal distributions. This paper examines whether the test statistics used by Jung and Tremayne (2003) on serial dependence in time series of counts data are affected by overdispersion.

  • Tax exhaustion effect hypothesis says that firms with low expected marginal tax rates on their interest deductions employ less debt in their capital structure. We use logit analysis to study how financing decision is related to tax after controlling non tax effects. We treat non debt tax shields as proxy of marginal corporate tax rates which affect the probability of using the deductibility of debt tax shields and empirically test the tax effect on financing decision in Korea. In conclusion, we provide evidence that debt financing is positively related to tax in the former sub-period. This results partially support for tax exhaustion effect hypothesis and low tax rate firms have lower debt levels than high tax rate firms.

  • In survival analysis of observational data, the inverse probability weighting method and the Cox proportional hazards model are widely used when estimating the causal effects of multiple-valued treatment. In this paper, the two kinds of weights have been examined in the inverse probability weighting method. We explain the reason why the stabilized weight is more appropriate when an inverse probability weighting method using the generalized propensity score is applied. We also emphasize that a marginal hazard ratio and the conditional hazard ratio should be distinguished when defining the hazard ratio as a treatment effect under the Cox proportional hazards model. A simulation study based on real data is conducted to provide concrete numerical evidence.

  • This study attempted to investigate the effects of collectivism as an individual cultural value and leadership practices on employees' organizational commitment of six commercial banks in Vietnam. The study used collectivism and the implementation of five leadership practices as the independent variables, the three components of organizational commitment as the dependent variables and employees' personal factors served as controlling variables. The study utilized a quantitative method of research with questionnaires as the main data collection instrument. The findings of the study have revealed that the individual cultural value of collectivism positively, but to a marginal degree, affected the level of employees' organizational commitment. Among five leadership practices, only the implementation of encourage the heart, positively, but to a marginal degree, influenced employees' affective and normative commitment. The leadership practice of challenge the process had a negative impact on the employees' affective commitment. The personal factors of employees did not have an impact on organizational commitment. The findings and conclusions of this study may be used by the leaders to create the favorable working environment, improve the relationship between leaders and followers and to increase organizational commitment.
