The aim of the present study was to analyze the factors that affects the peer attachment in Korean youth. Subjects were 419 middle school students (210 male, 209 female). Dependent variable was defined as peer attachment. Explanatory variables were included as gender, academic achievement satisfaction, subjective household economy level, parent - child dialogue frequency, subjective health status, depression symptom, self - esteem, subjective life satisfaction, and mobile phone dependency. In the multi-layer perceptron artificial neural network algorithm analysis, depression symptoms, gender, parent-child dialogue level for school life, subjective household economy level, subjective health status were significantly associated with peer attachment in Korean youth. Based on this result, systematic programs are required in order to prevention of peer attachment in Korean youth.
The research aimed to investigate characteristics of middle school students in a biology class as science gifted education in terms of self-regulated learning abilities, personality traits and learning preferences. The twenty subject in the study responded to questionnaires of a self-regulated learning ability instrument, a personality trait tool, and a learning preference survey in March, 2009. It was found that the research subjects showed higher levels of cognitive strategies, meta-cognition, and motivation than those students in a previous study(Jung et. al., 2004), while environment was opposite. The level of cognitive strategies was significantly correlated with meta-cognition(r=.610, p=.004) and motivation (r=.538, p=.014) and meta-cognition with environment(r=.717, p=.000). Those students who showed highest levels of self-regulated learning ability displayed various personality traits. One male student with the highest level of self-regulated learning ability showed a personality of hardworking, tender-minded, and conscientious traits and wanted to be a medical doctor. The female student with the second highest level of self-regulated learning ability presented a personality as creative, abstract and divergent thinker and she showed a strong aspiration to be a world-famous biologist with breakthrough contribution. The five students with highest levels of self-regulated learning ability showed a common preference in science learning: they dislike memory-oriented and theory-centered lecture with note-taking from teacher's writings on chalkboard; they prefer science learning with inquiry-oriented laboratory work, discussion among students as well as teachers. However, reasons to prefer discussion were diverse as one student wants to listen other students' opinions while the other student want to present his opinion to other students. The most favorable science teachers appeared to be who ask questions frequently, increase student interests, behave friendly with students, and is a active person. In conclusion, science teaching for the gifted should employ individualized teaching strategies appropriate for individual personality and preferred learning styles as well as meeting with individual interests in science themes.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify basic health needs of adult clients to develop a community nursing center model in Seoul. Methods: Data were collected using a questionnaire survey from 894 adults registered at a public health center who were health management members, and visiting 4 community nursing centers, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee during the period from July 1999 to January 2000. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentile, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: 1) The University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee School of Nursing has a long tradition of developing 4 community nursing centers with innovative health care programs. CNCs integrate the ability to implement and test effective intervention strategies with education, research, and practices of nursing students and faculty. They were designed to enhance the health status and quality of life for urban communities through the development of productive, outcome focused, collaborative partnerships among UWM-Nursing faculties and staff, other health and human service providers, consumers, and policy makers. It links the financial resources between UWM and 9 voluntary agencies and 12 public funding organizations including federal. state, and local governments. 2) Of the total health management members, 37.4% were reported to have at least one type of chronic disease such as hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis. Ten percent of them reported having obesity, and 44.2% reported lack of exercise. The health status of the subjects was within normal range in laboratory tests. However, female subjects showed more significant differences in obesity and cholesterol levels than male subjects. The subjects, who were in their 50s, showed more significant differences in obesity, SGOT, SGPT, and cholesterol levels than the subjects in other age groups. Conclusion: A community nursing center needs to be developed, that has a link between the nursing college and the public health center, with partnerships and a multidisciplinary approach. Based on the study results, exercise programs for middle aged adults are considered necessary. In particular, specific exercise programs for pre-menopausal women needs to be implemented in the future to prevent them from developing osteoporosis.
This study investigates the influences of factors such as type and degree of family leisure among parents with five day work weeks on adolescents' perceived family strengths. Its findings are based on questionnaires collected from 525 male and female parents of middle school students. Factor analysis and MANOVA were employed for data analysis and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ tests for post-hoc analysis. The main findings were as follows. First, adolescents whose parents work five days a week were at a higher level than other adolescents in terms of finances, family ties, communication, and social ties. Second, there were no significant differences concerning adolescents' family strength by type of family leisure. Third, adolescents with more family leisure activities scored higher than others in the areas of manageable strengths, financial levels, family ties, communication, and family social ties. Fourth, among families following the five day working system, adolescents who had more family leisure activities scored higher than the others in regards to manageable strengths, financial levels, family ties, communication, and family social ties. Additionally, where adolescents thought they had fewer family leisure activities, family-oriented adolescents tended to be engaged in higher physical-activity-oriented and hobby-oriented activities in relation to manageable strengths, financial level, family ties, and communication and hobby-oriented adolescents engaged in higher than average amounts of physical-activity, strengthening family social ties in the process. Fifth, concerning families not adhering to the five day working system, adolescents who had more family leisure activities scored higher than others in terms of manageable strengths, financial levels, family ties, communication, and family social ties. As the above results indicate, family leisure activities appear to be a key factor influencing family strength. Therefore, further support should be extended toward developing new forms of family leisure and additional studies should be devoted to the subject.
We investigated the relationship of brain dominance with mathematics and science achievement. The participants were 131 middle school students (male: 74, female: 57). It was found that the above average group in mathematics and science achievement had the highest frequency with left lower brain (LLB) (mathematics: 33.8%, science: 35.0%), whereas the below average group in mathematics and science achievement had the highest frequency with right lower brain (RLB) (mathematics: 38.7%, science: 36.1%). The LLB score showed a significant difference between the above average group and the below average group in science (p<.05). In the correlational analysis, the LLB scores had the highest correlation coefficients (mathematics: r=.28, science: r=.26). The LUB scores had the second highest correlation coefficients (mathematics: r=.18, science: r=.24). These results suggest that LLB and LUB are related to mathematics and science achievement. Therefore, we insist that the assessment of mathematics and science achievement should consider brain dominance.
To investigate the wear status of contact lenses by analyzing care of contact lenses container and actual condition of people wearing contact lenses and in Gyeonggido. The results were based on a questionnaire survey of 200 people who are the students of the middle school, the high school and the college among the clients of opticians to purchase contact lenses for six months from January 2013 to July 2013. According to the poll, the highest number of those polled, 139 (55.16%) people, said they were wearing cosmetic color contact lenses. Female respondents and male respondents were in the proportion of 177 (88.5%) to 23 (11.5%), respectively. 37 people (18.5%) who responded said "yes" to the question of them sharing contact lenses and glasses. 103 people (51.5%) answered "no" to the question of regularly replacing their lens containers. 148 people (74%) answered "yes" to the question of having glasses in order to investigate contact lens wearers user rate of glasses. The highest number of respondents, 127 people (63.5%), said "middle school" was the first time that they wore contacts. Meanwhile, 65 people (43.92%) said they initiated wearing glasses at 4th-6th grades. It is considered that it is necessary using proper contact lenses suitable for the clients' eye health in order of vision correction, rather than for cosmetic purposes. The role of the optician is considered to be very important for the proper management of the appropriate contact lens hygiene and regular optical check-ups of the contact lens wearers.
This study aimed to examine the relationship between lifestyle in early recollections and life position of adolescence. The data was collected from 409(male 201, female 208) middle school students. To analyze the data, factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient, MANOVA and multiple regression were used. The major results of this study were as follows: First, it was proved that the correlation coefficient of those variables between lifestyle and life position were statistically significant. In particular, to BSI & WR were positively associated with I+ & U+, while GA & BC were positively associated with I- & U-. Second, U- had greatest influence on GA, I+ & U+ had greatest influence on WR, I- had greatest influence on BC. Based on the finding results, discussion and implication for further research were suggested.
This study examined the modes of access to betting games among adolescents and analyzed the influence of on-line betting games (e.g., legalized gambling, illegal gambling, speculative games) on problem gambling. The raw data from the 2018 Survey on Youth Gambling Problems were used. Using a sample of 5,101 school adolescents who were from first-grade middle school students to second-grade high school students and who experienced betting games during the last three months, this study conducted cross tabulation and logistic regression analyses. Of the adolescents who experienced betting games, 17.8% experienced on-line games that were composed of 4.9% in illegal gambling, 2.4% in speculative games, and 0.4% in legalized gambling. Compared to land-based modes of gambling, on-line illegal gambling, legalized gambling, and speculative games were associated with higher odds of problem gambling. While on-line illegal gambling was associated with higher odds of problem gambling for female adolescents, on-line illegal gambling, legalized gambling, and speculative games were associated with higher odds of problem gambling for male adolescents. This study discussed intervention strategies to address problem gambling and modes of betting games among adolescents.

The purpose of this study was to examine middle school students' (N= 153) perceptions of motivational climate (teacher learning/teacher comparison/peer learning/peer comparison/peer worry) and their achievement goals (task/performance/performance-avoidance). The influence of perceptions of motivational climate emphasized by science teachers and/or peers on achievement goals was explored by stepwise regression. Although there was no difference in male/female perceptions of motivational climate, there was significant difference in their achievement goals. Regression result indicated that the pursuit of learning by peers made the strongest contribution to students' task goal. On the other hand, promotion via comparison by science teachers or peers had little effect on inducing performance goal. Anxieties about mistakes were found to be the strongest contribution to predictions on students' performance-avoidance goal. The promotion of comparison by science teachers was related to not only performance goal, but also performance-avoidance goal. Lastly educational implications for intervention efforts designed to enhance the quality of student motivational development in science education are discussed.

Objects : This study was carried out to develop the Korean form of Leyton Obsessional Inventory-Child Version(LOI-CV) designed to assess the obsessive compulsive symptoms in children and adolescents. The LOI-CV was modified into a paper-and-pencil form in order to administer it to group. Methods : We applied the Korean form LOI-CV to 127 elementary, middle and high school children, and retest it to 82 children with 3 weeks interval. Together with LOI-CV, Korean form of SCL-90-R which had been proved its reliability and validity, were administered to the all subjects for examining of concurrent validity. And then we examined whether this scale discriminates between obsessive patients, psychiatric controls and normal controls in the level of obsessive symptoms. Results : Test-retest reliability, internal consistency were very satisfactory. Concurrent validity with SCL-90-R was moderate level. And obsessive patients was scored significantly higher than psychiatric and normal controls in the level of obsessive symptoms. In factor analysis, items are clustered to 5 factors. In the global obsessive symptom, obsessive scores of female elimentary school students were higher than that of male students. Conclusions : These results indicate that the Korean form of LOI-CV is reliable and valid self-rating scale to assess the obsessive-compulsive symptoms in Korean children and adolescents. Author suggests that future research is needed for Korean version standardization study in normal and clinic-refered population.
