  • We analyzed the effect of local college students' economic activities on the local economy. The analysis method was an industry-related analysis based on data obtained from a survey. As a result of the analysis, local university students were found to be sensitive to price when consuming due to insufficient living infrastructure around local universities. In addition, as a result of analyzing the impact of local college students' consumption expenditures on the local economy, especially local income, using a regional industry correlation table, the total income generated was KRW 130.6 billion (direct and indirect income effects KRW 90.9 billion, induced income effects KRW 39.6 billion), and the number of people induced to be employed was KRW 130.6 billion. It was estimated that there were 2,145 people per year. We examined the effect of local college students' economic activities on the local economy through quantitative analysis. This is a contribution point of the study as evidence supporting the maintenance and necessity of local universities, and suggests that the government and local governments should take active interest and efforts in fostering local universities.

  • This study analyzed the management efficiency of local food stores that are increasing recently. The analysis targeted 25 local food outlets in Jeonbuk area, and the analysis method analyzed the efficiency by CCR model. The input variables used to analyze the input-oriented efficiency of local food stores are business expenses, employees, organizational number of participating farms, and number of items, and sales are used as output variables. The main contents of the analysis are as follows. First, local food outlets increased due to support projects such as the government, local governments, and agricultural cooperatives, but their dependence was high. Second, the management efficiency of 25 local food stores in Jeonbuk is 28.0% when the efficiency is 1.000, and 72.0% of inefficient local food stores. Third, considering the projection point and the reference group, there was room for improvement in input variables. Therefore, it was determined that improvement efforts are needed to secure the continuity of local food outlets in the future. However, this study will require review of variable selection and analysis methods for further analysis.

  • Periodic variation of local paper structure was evaluated using two-dimensional fast Fourier transform (FFT) and spectral analysis. Since the periodic variation could originate from various sources and have different magnitudes and patterns depending on the origins, a complete analysis of local paper structure properties such as local grammage, local thickness, local apparent density and surface topography was proposed in this study. For a commercial copy paper, the individual periodic patterns for each local structural property were identified by using inverse FFT spectrums of the filtered spectrum. The spectral analysis of newsprint sample provided the period of variation quantitatively, which was useful in comparing the origins of the individual periodic patterns of the local structural properties.

  • This paper presents the global-local finite cover method (GL-FCM) that is capable of analyzing structures involving local heterogeneities and propagating cracks. The suggested method is composed of two techniques. One of them is the FCM, which is one of the PU-based generalized finite element methods, for the analysis of local cohesive crack growth. The mechanical behavior evaluated in local heterogeneous structures by the FCM is transferred to the overall (global) structure by the so-called mortar method. The other is a method of mesh superposition for hierarchical modeling, which enables us to evaluate the average stiffness by the analysis of local heterogeneous structures not subjected to crack propagation. Several numerical experiments are conducted to validate the accuracy of the proposed method. The capability and applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated in an illustrative numerical example, in which we predict the mechanical deterioration of a reinforced concrete (RC) structure, whose local regions are subjected to propagating cracks induced by reinforcement corrosion.

  • We investigated dissatisfaction of elements of local exhaust system, needs for local exhaust system, and information networks for local exhaust system from June 1998 to September 1999 using the questionnaire structured. It contained questions concerning general characteristics of factory and local exhaust system, troubles and dissatisfaction of elements of local exhaust system, and information networks for local exhaust system. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics analysis. Information networks for local exhaust system were analyzed by multidimensional scaling using path distance of network analysis and by graph analysis using Krackplot. Among complaints of local exhaust system, that of duct has show the highest percentage of complaint. In the information network for local exhaust system, Seoul is positioned in the center of network with mediating role.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the success factor of local food markets compared to other types of markets such as large discount stores. Methods: SWOT analysis was conducted. In addition to the analysis, we also have interviewed the local farmers and retailers to elaborate the analysis results. Results: The study shows the success factors to the local markets are minimizing the stages of distribution channels, shortening the travel distance from producers to consumers, providing fresh foods, maintaining small amount of production system, and supporting customers. Conclusion: Customer satisfaction is one of the key factors for the successful growth of local food markets. It is strongly recommend to find strategic ways of meeting customer needs since the local food markets are facing tough competition form the large retail stores armed with huge amount of capitals and infrastructures.

  • This research investigated the way of generating the flowing of water in case of artificial fluctuation of river width by the unidimensional numerical analysis in order to reconstruct vertical and expanse features of flowing, and the problem of existing numerical analysis in accordance with local enlargement and reduction of river through hydraulic model experiments with results of numerical analysis. The result revealed that when the local section change in the same river is exist, it showed 0.93m in the case of no change of local section in the hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis, however, it presented 1.645m on the occasion of local section changes in the hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis. In other words, there was a significant difference in the existing numerical analysis, when there was a local section change. As a result of the experimental section for the enlargement and reduction of local river width, due to the sensitive change for fluctuation of flood discharge, there was a significant difference between numerical analysis and hydraulic model experiments. In addition, the result of comparison between the enlargement and reduction of local river width confirmed that the result of numerical analysis with hydraulic model experiments showed larger generation of deviation in case of enlargement of section than in case of reduction of section.

  • This study is to analyzes the global behavior of frame structures with local cracks in structural members by frame analysis, using the stiffness matrix of cracked frame element. This local compliance is utilized to derive the stiffness matrix of the cracked frame element and the effects of interaction among multiple cracks are also examined. The proposed technique is applied to frame structures with local cracks. Analysis results confirm the possibility of quantitative analysis of a structure damaged with local cracks and the feasibility of the technique as a tool for analyzing the global behavior of frame structures, reflecting effects of local cracks.

  • In the present paper, the sloshing resistance performance of a huge-size LNG carrier's insulation system is evaluated by the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis. To do this, the global-local analysis which is based on the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method is adopted to accurately calculate the structural behavior induced by internal LNG sloshing of a KC-1 type LNG carrier insulation system. During the global analysis, the sloshing flow and hydrodynamic pressure of internal LNG are analyzed by postulating the flexible insulation system as a rigid body. In addition, during the local analysis, the local hydroelastic response of the LNG carrier insulation system is computed by solving the local hydroelastic model where the entire and flexible insulation system is adopted and the numerical analysis results of the global analysis such as initial and boundary conditions are implemented into the local finite element model. The proposed novel analysis techniques can potentially be used to evaluate the structural integrity of LNG carrier insulation systems.

  • In this paper, development of the three-dimensional structural analysis is performed by applying FETI-local method. In the FETI-local method, the penalty term is added as a preconditioner. The OPT-DKT shell element is used in the present structural analysis. Newmark-${\beta}$ method is employed to conduct the dynamic analysis. The three-dimensional FETI-local static structural analysis is conducted. The contour and the displacement of the results are compared following the different number of sub-domains. The computational time and memory usage are compared with respect to the number of CPUs used. The three-dimensional dynamic structural analysis is conducted while applying FETI-local method. The present results show appropriate scalability in terms of the computational time and memory usage. It is expected to improve the computational efficiency by combining the advantages of the original FETI method, i.e., FETI-mixed using the mixed local-global Lagrange multiplier.
