This study investigated the types, forms, and origination of litter found along one hiking course in Moaksan Provincial Park, 'Jungin-ri Course'(entrance-ridge-valley-peak). In addition, a survey was conducted to understand hikers' litter control awareness in order to determine possible backcountry litter control measures. The following are the results of this study: 1. For the litter Sequency investigation, 199 recyclable pieces of litter were found on the mid-slope(61.6%), 89 by the entrance(27.6%), 19 in the valley(5.9%) and 16 on the peak(4.9%). A total of 323 pieces of litter were found. Paper materials were the most common, followed by plastic containers such as PET bottles and yogurt containers. Of particular interest, 288 papers and cans were found on the mid-slope(46.9%). By the entrance, more plastics and bottles were found. 2. There were 614 pieces of flammable litter collected and only 19 pieces of non-flammable. Most of the flammable litter, including snack pacts, plastic bags, processed lumber, cigarette butts, tissues, cigarette boxes, and fabric was found on the mid-slope. 3. Very little food waste was found throughout the whole site proving that the policy prohibiting hikers from cooking and eating at the designated sites has been effective. However, food waste is difficult to find because it naturally decays with time. 4. $X^2$-test was used to find different types of litter and their verified origination frequency. It was found that recyclable litter, and food waste took about 1%. In addition, recyclable litter, especially bottles, was found relatively frequently by the entrance. Flammable litter was found most often at the peak. 5. The questionnaire results showed that 48.2% of the respondents "shorten their hiking journey and purchase food outside the entrance" and 29.6% said that they "bring a packed meal from home". Only 8.2% said that they "cook something when an appropriate location is found". At the Jungin-ri course, a few hikers brought their own food to eat or cook, but most hikers purchased something to eat onsite. 6. The results of the question about having experience littering while hiking showed that 19.3% litter and 79.2% do not. Those that responded "yes" gave various reasons for littering. 63.6% claimed, "there are no designated trash containers". 15.9% said they litter subconsciously. Finally, 3.2% insist that they litter "because food naturally decomposes". 7. As a result of the overall satisfaction according to the Likert scale and the analysis with an average of 14 variables, it was found that the average "toxic litter control convenience" was 2.41 with very low satisfaction. Thus, the results indicate the importance of providing appropriate back country litter control facilities.

This study was to investigate the reaction analysis of citizen on fence removal for securing green space. The results are as following; The majority of users went to green space more than one time per week to take a walk, rest and stayed there less than an hour. The places, where the fence removal was required mostly, were public institutions, parks and schools. The physical factor was the highest influence on whether the fence removal project could be expanded or not. With a slight difference from the physical factor, the environmental and emotional factor followed after. The social factor was also significant at 1 % level. In the physical aspect, the increase of garbage littering was the most negative part after fence removal. When the citizens were asked if they would participate in the fence removal project, the environmental and emotional factor and the social factor were the most influential ones on work places while the environmental and emotional factor influenced only on private houses.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for developing the practical park management. For this, satisfaction degree, satisfaction factors and estimated model by satisfaction variables of visitors were analyzed through a questionnaire survey in Hallasan National Park, Korea. In the evaluation process of the satisfaction, it was found out variables of 'uncleanness of sanitation facility', 'lack of convenience and information facility' was more unsatisfactory than any other variable. The biggest satisfaction factor through factor analysis was 'usual user management factor' accounting for 45.8% of all. Estimated models of satisfaction by multiple regression analysis are showed in the order of 'lack of sanitation', 'littering problem', and 'traffic safety'.
Visitors to Chuwangsan National Park were survayed from August 3 to 5 n 1994. During this time, 346 visitors were contacted. Of those individuals, 65% were males. 63% of respondents reported that they had gone as far as college. 48% were 20 years of age. 97% of the survey respondents had experience to visit other national parks. The largest percentage of respondents were reported that they visited Chuwangsan Nat'1 Park for enjoying natural landscape. In group type, 50% were traveling with their family and 36% with their friends. In activity characteristics, 51% were day-time visitors, and 18% mentioned carrying in their on food. Generally most respondents were very interested in the environmental problem in national parks. The majority of visitors perceived that the environment of Chuwangsan Nat'1 Park were good enough. In six types of normative violations, the major reasons of littering were unintentional violation and releaser-cue violation. Most respondents were not likely to intervene to stop other visitors' depreciative behavior (Bystander intervention behavior). In two dilemmas, the more likely the intention to obey a regulation the less likely the intention to disobey a regulation, and vice-versa.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for developing the practical park management. For this, satisfaction degree, satisfaction factors and estimated model by satisfaction variables of visitors analyzed through a questionnaire survey in Byeonsanbando National Park, Korea. In the evaluation of the satisfaction, variables of 'careless cooking'. 'collection of natural plants & animals', 'Noise and urination on the road' and 'Littering problem' at Naesosa and 'crowding', 'touting', 'Indiscreet use' and 'Illegal merchant' at Gyeokpo was most unsatisfied than any other variables. Satisfaction factors by Factor Analysis were loaded with 'user management' at Naesosa(65.1%) and 'business behavior management at Gyeokpo(68.4%) by the highest contribution degree. In estimated model of satisfaction by Multiple Regression Analysis showed in order of 'Injury of landscape resource', 'Lack of information facility', 'crowding' and 'Lack of employee's guidance or kindness' at Naesosa and 'Injury of landscape resource', 'Lack of information facility', 'Illegal merchant', Lack of facility to stay' and 'Lack of employee's guidance or kindness' at Gyeokpo. So, Mountain and marine National Parks needed different management policy and are required to institutional apparatus for user education.
The purpose of this study was to analyze visitors' behavior in Hallyo-Haesang National Park, Korea. To accomplish the purpose, questionnaire survey, using self-developed questions, was employed from August 21 to 23 in 1998. 303 samples for the survey were selected in 4 different zones(Koje, Tongyong, Namhae, and Odongdo) within park boundary. As the results, socioeconomic characteristics, such as gender, education and income level, age, and others, were showed similar trends with results from visitor surveys in other national parks. Most respondents were pointed out unintentional violation due to habit as a major reason of littering. And, majority of respondents didn't know the Clean-up-Time Movement Program in this park. In addition, ecosystem condition, natural landscape, trash problem, safety, and kindness of park rangers were recognized as the major influencing factors that can affect to visitors' recreation experience in this park but existing conditions for each influencing factor were evaluated lower than level of their expectation. Overall level of recreation satisfaction in Hanryohaesang national park were, however, perceived in the affirmative.
The fishing ground surrounding Wangdol-cho is not only overexploited by the littering of dilapidated fishing net and equipment, but also by fishermen's overfishing, surpassing optimum fisheries resources. In addition, increasing fishing efforts (number of fishing vessel and fishing net, etc) contribute to the deterioration of fishing ground, and it is urgently required that schemes to tackle the problems should be taken. To effectively address the problems as such, this paper aims to propose sustainable utilization and management scheme of fishing ground through classification of fishing ground surrounding Wangdol-cho as one area which is less than 50m deep, measuring $13.66km^2$ and the other, permission fishing area of Gill Net fishery, measuring $347.23km^2$. The analysis shows that, for the water area less than 50m deep, implementation from a short-term perspective includes autonomous management fishery by gill net and trap fishery. For the permission fishing area of Gill Net fishery, implementation includes limit on fishing period, real name system of fishing equipment and limit on fishing equipment. Implementation from a medium and long-term perspective includes limit on scuba diving, designation of underwater sightseeing zone, sea farming, facilities of surveillance, adoption of approval system for the permission fishing area of Gill Net fishery and introduction of report system for fishing.
In order to manage forest recreation resources effectively, it is necessary to establish objective and quantifiable evaluative standards. They can be used to evaluate the present management conditions of recreation resources and to monitor the conditions continuously on the basis of the established evaluative standards. Normative approach is one of alternatives to help establish evaluative standards. Researchers and forest managers have been interested in the approach, and its usefulness in managing recreation resources has been emphasized. This paper evaluated the present conditions of the campgrounds on the basis of users' normative evaluative standards using the data collected by on-site survey at two campgrounds (Baemsagol Campground and Second Campground) in Chiri-Mountain National Park in 1.993. This paper established evaluative standards for eight impact indicators using normative approach, and it evaluated the present management conditions of the campgrounds on the basis of them. The present management conditions for noise time and littering behavior were worse than the evaluative standards at Baemsagol and Second Campground. Present conditions for inconsiderate behavior, number of tents, number of campers, and waiting time for using water supply were worse than the evaluative standards only at Baemsagol Campground. The present management conditions for distance between tents and waiting time for using restroom were better than the evaluative standards at both campgrounds. This study introduced how normative approach can be used to establish evaluative standards, and based on the study result, some management directions were suggested.
The present study was conducted to obtain information on the effects of amitraz on reproductive and developmental parameters in rats. The test chemical was administered via the drinking water containing 0, 40, 120, and 360 ppm to male rats from 2 weeks before mating to the end of 14-day mating period and to females from 2 weeks before mating, throughout mating, gestation and up to lactational day 4. During the study period, clinical signs, body weights, food intake, organ weights, reproductive and littering findings, necropsy findings, sperm parameters, and histopathology were examined. At 360 ppm, decreases in the body weight gain, food consumption, and the number of live pups and an increase in the post-implantation loss were observed. In addition, decreases in the seminal vesicle weight and sperm motility were found in males. At 120 ppm, a decrease in the food consumption was found transiently in both males and females, but no reproductive and developmental toxicity was observed in both sexes. There were no signs of either general or reproductive and developmental toxicity in the 40 ppm group. Based on these results, it was concluded that the repeated oral administration of amitraz to rats resulted in a decrease in the food consumption at 120 ppm and decreases in the seminal vesicle weight, sperm motility, and the number of live pups and an increase in the post-implantation loss at 360 ppm in rats. Under these experimental conditions, the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of amitraz for general and reproduction/developmental toxicity was believed to be 120 ppm, and the no-observed-effect level (NOEL) of amitraz was believed to be 40 ppm in rats.
Wastewater sludge had normally filled up in land before revising the law of waste material management in 2003, which does not permit landfill of organic sludge in Korea. After the law, most sludge has been littered in the ocean up to now. However, due to the London Convention 96 Protocol, littering sludge in the ocean will also be prohibited after 2011. This Protocol makes countries find out new methods to treat wastewater sludge. There is no exception in Korea too. Many researchers have urgently try to find out better ways to treat sludge. One of ways is to make sludge recycle energy and the success of it depends on drying method. Specifically, it really depends how to make sludge dry ecologic friendly and economic efficiently. Therefore, wastewater sludge produced in Youngdong was analyzed to make it energy resources in this study. The sludge was tested to analyze the drying and chemical characteristics of it by irradiating microwave. In the result, it is sure that the sludge has little heavy metals as like as others in country side. High calories, 3370 Kcal, shows that it has good potential to be recycle energy. Moreover, weight deduction of the sludge vs. time shows long S-curve and has same deduction ratio. Specifically, S-curve can be divided by three sections based on the curvature points. There are steady state reduction ratio of weight and approximately 80% of weight duction in the second section. This results can be used to estimate the amount of sludge reduction in the full-scale microwave dryer. Drying capacity of microwave shows approximately 1.0 kg/kw/hr. It makes sure that sludge recycle energy has the potential of economic efficiency too.
