This study was performed to develop a task-based English lesson plan. The study reviewed the background theories needed to accomplish the study purpose; types of learning, current trends in English teaching, and the task-based teaching. A frame for the task-based English lesson was developed as the result of this study. An actual task-based lesson plan was made after the frame for the task-based English lesson. The author presented task-based English lesson plans at English education conferences, and applied them to pre-teacher training and in-service trainings for English teachers. It is concluded that the task-based English lesson plan was very effective in enhancing English communicative competence and that the pre-teachers and teachers were satisfied with the lesson plans. It is hoped that more teaching material will be developed based on this task-based English lesson plan.
The purpose of this study was to provide fundamental data and implication for forming desirable viewpoint of mathematics lesson critique and for improvement of expertise in lesson by compare and analyze the viewpoint of mathematics lesson critique of pre-service and in-service teachers. For the achievement of the purpose, The lesson critique materials of each 25 pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers were collected and arranged, and compare and analyze the viewpoint of mathematics lesson critique of pre-service and in-service teachers by using the standard for analyzing viewpoint of lesson critique composed of two categories, five main codes and 18 sub codes. The results of this study, both pre-service and in-service teachers have tendency for criticising lesson focusing on the practice rather than plan of lesson and both pre-service and in-service teachers showed evaluative reaction in most of critical statements and used positive ones rather than negative ones. The only pre-service teachers, though minor of them, showed non-evaluative reaction in criticising class and most of the statements were just description and explanation without any their own judgement for the scenes and activities of lessons and most of pre-service teachers have tendency to include reflection and introspection for their own class in lesson critique.
A well-designed mathematics lesson is the foundation for effective mathematics instruction. Given this significance, this paper focused on analyzing what would be important elements for in-service teachers in planning an elementary mathematics lesson. For this purpose, a total of 27 in-service teachers were asked to write down whatever they would consider important in designing a mathematics lesson. A mathematics lesson plan prepared by a pre-service teacher was provided for the in-service teachers. They were then asked to analyze the strengths of the lesson plan and to provide detailed feedback on how to improve it. The results of this study showed that the in-service teachers tended to analyze the given mathematics lesson plan in terms of what they considered important regarding lesson design. Such elements were specified when the in-service teachers described the strengths and feedback for improvement of the lesson plan. In particular, the aspects of instructional strategies and materials were explained in detail. Based on these results, this paper is expected to provoke discussions on lesson design of in-service teachers and subsequent research.
This study has developed Web-based, Automated Lesson Planner System for teachers to make out and make use of lesson plans using ICT(Information & Communication Technology). First, web-based lesson planner system has been developed to make teachers possible to make and use lesson plans on the web. Second, the database of electronic lesson planner system has been designed and established according to Korean curriculum and form of teaching-loaming lesson plan using ICT. Third, the system embodied making out a lesson plan easily and operating all ICT materials together. Last, the system was applied to the real elementary school fields and the efficiency and improvements were analyzed. This lesson planner system made database of all ICT materials and lesson plans, so that it can manage and control all lesson plans systematically. Also, the lesson plans and ICT materials are connected together, so the database can be a dynamic content storage. The construction of this system established maximization of share, use and storage of teaching-learning lesson plans. It will be popularize in real education fields and made a contribution to the school informatization.
This research intends to give a practice of mathematics lesson-critique and some perspectives on a mathematics lesson in the elementary school level. We carried out a mathematics lesson-critique on a lesson chosen as a good lesson by a local educational district in Korea. The main themes of mathematics lesson-critique were the reconstruction of lesson models, the pursuit of relational understanding, the activation of mathematical communication, and the didactical transformation by a in-service teacher. Meanwhile we confirmed that we need to discuss the properness and adequateness of contents about division of natural numbers given in the elementary mathematics textbook and teachers' guide according to the revised 2007 mathematics curriculum.
Oriental painting lesson is considered neglectedly, because of pressure on teachers and troublesomeness of preparing and using for art supplies. However, change of medium can solve pressure on teachers and students for Oriental painting lesson enough. Therefore this study will present composition of Oriental painting lesson planning using photoshop program as a way of overcoming weak points, increasing students' interests and giving effective composition lesson. We developed composition of Oriental painting lesson planning using layer of photoshop program. Then We surveyed 60 students who are two classes of the first grade in G high school to know the effect and possibility of the lesson planning and analyzed the results. The most(75%) of the respondents answered that composition of Oriental painting lesson planning using photoshop program was appropriate. The more than half (58.3%) respondents wanted to participated in lesson regardless of any subjects. That shows highly interest for photoshop program. The respondents answered that the merits of this lesson using photoshop program are less pressure for drawing(33.3%), possibility of variety expression(30%), not requiring art supplies(26.6%). So this study shows using photoshop program for art class can solve weak points of Oriental painting lesson.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of lesson planning of pre-service elementary teachers to develop scientific communication skills for elementary school students. For this purpose, lesson plans and lesson planning journals written by the 53 pre-service teachers were collected and analyzed. The results of the research were as follows. The pre-service elementary teachers used an implicit and contextual approach to develop scientific communication skills. Teaching and learning activities for enhancing scientific communication were mainly conducted in words or in writing. There were many activities expressing elementary school students' thoughts and presenting the results of experiments in the lesson plan. There were many cases in which the pre-service teachers' lesson plans did not include the evaluation of scientific communication skills. In their lesson plans, there are a lot of mutual activities between teachers and students, team and whole students, and inter-students within teams together, and students' individual activities from requests of teachers. We found that the pre-service teachers had various difficulties when they planned the science lesson to develop scientific communication skills. The pre-service teachers were less likely to refer to specialized materials related to science education when planning their classes.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of science lesson with the application of Flipped Learning on science academic achievement and scientific attitude of students. The experimental group was composed of 50 students and the comparative group was composed of 50, both in $6^{th}$ grade. The two groups were statistically equivalent in their science academic achievement and scientific attitude when pre-tests were conducted. The experimental group received science instruction applied with Flipped Learning and the comparative group took typical science lesson according to a teacher's guide. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the science lesson with the application of Flipped Learning was more significantly effective in improving students' science academic achievement than traditional science lesson. Second, the science lesson combined with Flipped Learning enhanced scientific attitudes of students with meaningful difference more than typical science lesson. Third, a survey research was conducted to the experimental group about their cognition on the lessons with the application of Flipped Learning. Many students had positive thoughts on this lesson and they thought the lesson was very interesting and understandable.
This study presents how two types of integrated science and engineering lessons affect students' engineering problem solving skills and their perceptions of engineering. In total, 146 middle school students participated in this study. Eighty-six students participated in the Type I lesson (complete engineering design lesson with a science knowledge application) and 60 students participated in the Type II lesson (engineering design without a science knowledge application). Two main datasets, (1) students' Creative Engineering Problem Solving Propensity (CEPSP) measurement scores and (2) open-ended survey questions about students' perceptions of engineering, were collected before and after the lessons. The results of this study show that after participating in the Type I lesson, students' CEPSP scores significantly increased, whereas the CEPSP scores of the students who participated in the Type II lesson did not increase significantly. In addition, students who participated in the Type I lesson perceived engineering and the engineering integrated science lesson differently compared to the students who participated in the Type II lesson. The results of this study show that engineering integrated science, technology, engineering & mathematics (STEM) lessons should include a complete engineering design and a science knowledge application to improve students' engineering problem solving skills.
It would be reasonable as a teacher to make efforts not only to reflect on the class on their own but also to improve the teacher' teaching e pertise by reflecting on the class with fellow teachers through lesson reflection sharing. This paper attempted to develop a lesson reflective framework that can provide standards and focus for lesson reflection and lesson sharing. First, based on the class evaluation criteria of previous studies, class reflection elements and a draft of lesson reflection were prepared. In a class conducted on 27 third graders at C High School where the co-researcher worked as a teacher, four peer teachers at the same high school were required to write personal opinions on the class based on the draft of lesson reflection. Based on this, lesson sharing was conducted, and modifications of the lesson reflection framework were developed by analyzing the case of class sharing. The implications of this paper indicate the need to clarify the perspective of viewing the lesson by sharing the intention of each question in advance. In addition to writing lesson reflections, it is necessary to share classes simultaneously.
