  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend line through scatter diagram analysis on correlation between SNS addiction tendencies and learning attitudes, figure out the knee point influencing learning attitudes negatively in detail, and examine influence among subareas. To address the goal, study questions are formulated as follows. First, this author did screening on the data of variables measured and analyzed descriptive statistics. Second, this researcher produced the trend line by drawing a scatter diagram in order to analyze correlation between SNS addiction tendencies, withdrawal symptoms, excessive communication, and excessive time wasting, and learning attitudes exploratorily. Third, to explore correlation between self-evaluation, learning participation, and developmental attitudes, the subfactors of learning attitudes related to SNS addiction tendencies, this author drew a scatter diagram and analyzed the threshold of positive and negative correlation. To verify the study questions, the SNS addiction tendency scale and learning attitude scale were applied to 301 university students in Chungcheong area. According to the study results, first, their learning attitudes are influenced by SNS addiction tendencies, excessive communication and excessive time wasting, and they are not influenced by withdrawal symptoms that much. Second, excessive communication, a factor of SNS addiction tendencies, and self-evaluation and developmental attitudes, factors of learning attitudes, show positive correlation to some extent and indicate negative correlation after the threshold. However, excessive communication and learning participation are found to show no correlation. Third, according to the results of examining correlation with learning attitudes by dividing them into excessive communication and excessive time wasting groups with the knee point of 1.40, as the symptom of excessive communication is found more, it influences self-evaluation, learning participation, developmental attitudes, and learning attitudes more negatively in general. The result of this study is expected to provide foundational material necessary to develop educational programs to prevent undergraduates' excessive SNS use and SNS addiction which can be used in the scenes of counseling or education.

  • This study analyzed the effects of 'online biology learning using E-learning system' on elementary school students' science-related attitudes. Samples of the study were composed of 95 sixth-grade students of N elementary school in Seoul, Korea. The learning was conducted for 11 times over a month. The main results of this study are as follows. First, for the paired t-test, a statistically significant difference between the pre and post scores of science-related attitudes was found. After conducting the online biology learning science related attitudes scores of students generally declined. "The boredom caused by simply watching online biology contents" is the decisive cause of the decline in science-related attitude scores analyzed through interviews. Second, in ANCOVA, according to 'levels of meta-cognition'. there was no statistically significant difference in scores of science-related attitudes. but, there was statistically significant difference in science-related attitudes according to 'adoption of scientific attitudes'. Students of high meta-cognition type showed a greater decline in scores than students of low meta-cognition type. Based on the results of this study, implications for research of online biology education and elementary science education are discussed.

  • This study investigates the change in two theoretical constructs, attitudes toward mathematics and mathematics self-efficacy, among college students involved in a learning community model. The case of this study was a developmental mathematics class offered at a historically black college located in the southeastern United States. Subjects included 31 students enrolled in an introductory mathematics course, some of whom participated in a learning community (treatment group). The participants completed mathematics attitudes and mathematics efficacy instruments twice: at the beginning of the semester and again at the end. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and a non-parametric statistic. The results showed that students' attitudes toward mathematics and mathematics self-efficacy are strongly correlated; the mathematical problem-solving efficacy changed significantly over time and it is significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group; and the treatment group produced better outcomes. These findings indicate that a learning community model can increase students' mathematics self-efficacy beliefs. It is recommended that mathematics self-efficacy and attitudes toward mathematics be measured over an extended period of time when a learning community is implemented.

  • The purpose for this study is to check if research activities can make positive effects on inquiry instruction utilizing materials when compared to traditional instruction utilizing the textbook. The effects of the class should be measured both in cognitive domain and in affective domain. The cognitive domain was measured by the change in achievements in learning science, and the affective domain was measured by the change in learning attitudes of science. The assumptions to be verified in this study were as follows. First, achievements in learning science are higher in the learner oriented inquiry instruction utilizing materials than in the learner oriented traditional instruction utilizing the textbook. Second, learning attitudes of science are higher in the learner oriented inquiry instruction utilizing materials than in the learner oriented traditional instruction utilizing the textbook. The results of the research are as follows. In the cognitive domain, achievements in learning science showed significant change(p=.045) measured by verifying the score for the difference among the averages for each sub-scale, in 5% of meaningful probability, and were higher in the inquiry instruction utilizing materials study. In the affective domain, learning attitudes of science showed significant change(p=.019) measured by verifying the score for the difference among the averages for each sub-scale, in 5% of meaningful probability, and were higher in the inquiry instruction utilizing materials study. In learning attitudes of science, 2 items(self-conception of science, attitudes of learning science) out of 3 items(self-conception of science, attitudes of learning science, learning habits of science) showed significant changes (p=.045, p=.001). But the difference(learning-habits of science) was not significant(p=.914).

  • Problem-centered learning reflects learning strategy based on constructivism. In this learning, students should find the solution in a small group discussion, and share their solutions with classmates in whole class discussion. So students participate in mathematics instruction actively and interact with other students about the strategies. We expect students would change their attitudes on mathematics and mathematical learning in these processes. In this study, we analyzed students' attitudes on mathematics and mathematical learning when they participated the problem-centered learning program. We found the change of students' attitudes to mathematics via problem-centered learning.
