  • U-flanged truss beam is composed of u-shaped upper steel flange, lower steel plate of 8mm or more thickness, and connecting lattice bars welded on the upper and lower sides. The hybrid beam with U-flanged steel truss is made in the construction site through pouring the concrete, and designated as U-flanged truss hybrid beam. In this study the structural experiments on the 4 hybrid beams with the proposed basic shapes were performed, and the flexural capacities from the tests were compared with those from the theoretical approach. The failure modes of each specimen were quite similar. The peak load was reached with the ductile behavior after yielding, and the failure occurred through the concrete crushing. The considerable increasement of deformation was observed up to the concrete crushing. The composite action of concrete and steel member was considered to be reliable from the behavior of specimens. The flexural strength of hybrid beam has been evaluated exactly using the calculation method applied in the boubly reinforced concrete beam. The placement of additional rebars in the bottom instead of upper side is proposed for the efficient design of U-flanged truss hybrid beam.

  • In this paper, we investigated the sensing ability of an extraordinary optical transmission sensor, which is based on the diverse configurations of highly ordered structures. The diverse nanostructures of subwavelength hole array were designed to have different periods and lattice configurations of the array. To verify the sensing ability of the sensor, we measured the transmittance spectra of samples (n = 1.333, 1.363) for diverse configurations of substrates. The measured transmittance spectra of diverse materials with different refractive indices show that the sensitivity increased as the period of the structures increased. Also, improved sensing performance of the sensor was achieved for the square array, compared to the hexagonal array.

  • So far, all reviews and control approaches of spin relaxation have been done on lateral single electron quantum dots. In such structures, many efforts have been done, in order to eliminate spin-lattice relaxation, to obtain equal Rashba and linear Dresselhaus parameters. But, ratio of these parameters can be adjustable up to 0.7 in a material like GaAs under high-electric field magnitudes. In this article we have proposed a single electron QD structure, where confinements in all of three directions are considered to be almost identical. In this case the effect of cubic Dresselhaus interaction will have a significant amount, which undermines the linear effect of Dresselhaus while it was destructive in lateral QDs. Then it enhances the ratio of the Rashba and Dresselhaus parameters in the proposed structure as much as required and decreases the spin states up and down mixing and the deviation angle from the net spin-down As a result to the least possible value.

  • In this work, we show that the excessive lattice heating problem due to parasitic pnp transistor action in the diode electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device in the diode input protection circuit, which is favorably used in CMOS RF ICs, can be solved by adopting a symmetrical cathode structure. To explain how the recipe works, we construct an equivalent circuit for input human-body model (HBM) test environment of a CMOS chip equipped with the diode protection circuit, and execute mixed-mode transient simulations utilizing a 2-dimensional device simulator. We attempt an in-depth comparison study by varying device structures to suggest valuable design guidelines in designing the protection diodes connected to the $V_{DD}$ and $V_{SS}$ buses. Even though this work is based on mixed-mode simulations utilizing device and circuit simulators, the analysis given in this work clearly explain the mechanism involved, which cannot be done by measurements.

  • The authors investigated anomalous nanoporous structures of aluminum oxides during the Al anodization process. We implemented two-steps anodizing process for the electrolyte of oxalic acid. As increasing DC voltages, lattice constants are proportionally increased. For the curved surface, the surface electric field was distorted so that the nanoporous pipe channel changed to a cone-type shape. We confirmed the periodicity by using the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analysis.

  • 1-D photonic band-gap structure is identified in a cholesteric liquid crystal system. The optical transmission spectrum is measured and compared with the theoretical analysis. Nonlinear transmission is measured near the band edge. Also 3-D photonic band-gap structures are fabricated from dielectric colloidal polystyrene beads through a centrifuge method. The fabricated photonic crystals exhibit opalescent colors under white light and show a clear diffraction peak dependent on the incident angle of the light beam. Also the scanning electron microscope image was taken to verify the face-centered cubic crystal structure. Bragg's law and Snell's law are employed to describe the position of angle resolved diffraction peaks. It was shown that the optically deduced effective refractive index and lattice constants were in good agreement with the crystal structure identified by scanning electron microscope.

  • The zoospores of Polymyxa graminis known as vector of barley yellow mosaic virus(BYMV) were found from the rootlets of diseased barley plants. The X-bodies in the lower epidermis of diseased leaf tissues were reddish under fluorescence microscopy. The shape of virus particles was flexuous rod and 300-1,000 nm in length. The pinwheel structures, cylindrical inclusion bodies, ring-form inclusion bodies, and crystalline lattice-like structure were found together with virus particles in the cytoplasm of diseased leaf tissues. Generally, intracellular organelles in the diseased barley leaf tissues infected with BYMV were either not well-developed or degenerated.

  • Flows are studied to understand the flow structure in the narrow region that any experimental approaches are hard to access, Effects on the vehicle commodities from the flows are anticipated in the point of aerodynamics and aero-acoustics. PowerFLOW, which was well validated commercial software, was used to simulate the flow field in the small region, for example, the inner region of the fender panel, the inner region around the front door and the inner region of the trunk lid. Flows in the narrow region could be origins of door sealing problem and dust piling problem.

  • The authors investigated the InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well blue light emitting devices with the implementation of the photonic crystals fabricated at the top surface of p-GaN layer and the bottom interface of n-GaN layer. The top photonic crystals result in the lattice-dependent photoluminescence spectra at the wavelength of 450 nm and however, the bottom photonic crystal shows a big shift of the photoluminescence peak from 444 nm to 394 nm. The sample with the bottom photonic crystal structure also shows the lasing effect at the wavelength of 468 nm. Furthermore, the quality enhancement for the crystal growth of GaN thin film on the bottom photonic crystal comes from the modulated compressive stress which was measured by the micro-Raman spectroscopy.
