Influences of the BUN and Creatinine Level by Krill (Euphausia superba) Meal and NaF Administration in Rats (Krill 분말 및 NaF 투여가 흰쥐의 BUN 및 Creatinine 농도에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the hematology and serum chemistry values on Sprague-Dawley rats, used krill (Euphausia superba) meal diet and sodium fluoride (NaF) for 5 weeks. Seven-week-old male rats were divided into five groups and fed experimental diets containing three krill meal contents, administrated orally 10 mg of NaF, basal diet group (BG), basal diet plus 10 mg of NaF group (BFG), 10.0% krill meal plus 10 mg of NaF group (KMF10), 20.0% krill meal plus 10 mg of NaF group (KMF20), and 30.0% krill meal plus 10 mg of NaF group (KMF30). Concentrations of non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine in sera were significantly lower in the KMF10, KMF20, KMF30 than BFG (p<0.05). In uric acid concentration KMF10 showed no significant difference with the BFG group, was significantly lower than KMF20 and KMF30 (p<0.05). Total calcium (T-Ca) concentrations was all observed to be no significant difference, was increased with krill meal content (p<0.05). Phosphorus (Pi) concentration was no change in the content of krill meal. Accordingly, krill meal was considered to be effective in improving NEFA and BUN, creatinine, uric acid concentration.

  • To study effect of bean extracts to lessen the growth-suppressing-effect of krill meal diet, dietary krill meal with bean extracts on the performance of broiler chicks and proliferation of splenocytes and peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) and levels of circulating TNF-$\alpha$ and ovotransferrin in plasma was assayed. The krill meal with bean extracts diet lessened the growth-suppressing effect of the krill meal diet. During acute phase responce, the krill meal with bean extracts diet decreased the proliferation of splenocytes and increased the proliferation of the PBMC and reduced the circulating levels of TNF-$\alpha$ and ovotransferrin in plasma. The results Indicated that the krill meal with bean extracts diet related with the acute phase response in broiler chicks.

Effects of Antarctic Ocean Krill Meal with NaF Oral Administration on Serum and Tissues in Rats (남극해 크릴 분말과 NaF 처리가 흰쥐의 혈청 및 조직에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to probe the influences of krill (Euphausia superba) meal with NaF oral administration on a dose-effect relationship between fluoride levels of krill meal and serum enzyme activity such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in rats fed experimental diets for 5 weeks. There were no significant decreases in the activities of ALP, AST, ALT, and LDH in sera among krill meal diet groups (KF10, KF20, KF30). However, these groups were significantly (p<0.05) lower enzyme activities than normal diet (ND) plus NaF 10 mg group (NF). The fluoride levels of serum and organ tissues (liver, brain, heart, lung, kidney) in NaF 10 mg groups (NF, KF10, KF20, KF30) were significantly increased by adding krill meal in comparison with normal diet group. The results indicate that a difficult to found toxicity to the tissues from krill meal diet groups.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of hematology and serum chemistry values on Sprague-Dawley rats, while used krill (Euphausia superba) meal diet for 5 weeks. Seven-week-old male rats were divided into four groups (n=6) and fed experimental diets containing three different krill meal contents and control group; 10.0% krill meal (G10), 20.0% krill meal (G20), 30.0% krill meal (G30), and control group (GC). Concentrations of non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in serum were significantly lower in the G10, G20, G30 than GC group (p<0.05). Statistically significant differences, at the confidence level of 95%, for the creatinine, uric acid, electrolyte (T-Ca) parameters in the sera were observed in G20 group, G30 group. The concentration of electrolyte (Pi) in serum was no significant difference among the groups (p<0.05). The results indicate that a krill meal diet was effectively reduce the NEFA.

Effect of Dietary Krill Meal Levels on the Cell Mediated Immunity in Intra-muscularly Croton Oil Injected Broiler Chicks (파두유를 주입한 육계병아리에서 사료중 크릴밀 수준이 세포성 면역에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of dietary krill meal levels on the cellular immunity was studied in broiler chicks activated immune response. One day old male broiler chicks(Ross) were fed the experimental krill meal 0.0(basal), 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% diets for 3wks. Blood TNF-α activity, ovotransferrin level and Con A induced proliferation of PBMC and splenocytes after 24 hr(21 d age) of the croton oil 10㎕ injection intra- musculary at the age of 20 days compared to the control olive oil. Krill meal diets did not affect growth performance of broiler chicks and plasma ovotransferrin levels but decreased significantly(p<0.0001) TNF-α like activity and proliferation of PBMC relative to krill meal 0.0% diet. And the proliferation of splenocytes were significantly(p<0.05) increased in birds fed krill meal 1.0% diet relative to krill meal 0.5 and 2.0% diets. The croton oil injection induced a significant(p<0.0001) increases in the TNF-α activity or the PBMC proliferation and enhanced circulating ovotransferrin levels relative to the olive oil. In birds injected with the croton oil the proliferation of PBMC was reduced linearly with the increase of dietary krill meal levels, and the proliferation of splenocytes was decreased in the krill meal 1.0 and 2.0% diets relative to olive oil. These results indicated that dietary krill meal changed the innate and cellular immunity in broiler chicks activated by the injection of croton oil.

  • In order to evaluate the effect of dietary krill meal on immunity of broilers, the proliferation of splenocyte and PBMC (pheripheral blood mononuclear cell) from broilers fed experimental diets containing 0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 o/o krill meal, respectively, and injected the Salmonella typhymurium lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were assayed. The proliferation of splenocyte was increased with the dietary krill levels, but was decreased with the LPS immunlogical stress. Con A addition in the medium increased the proliferation of the splenocytes from birds fed dietary krill or stimulated by LPS. In 21 day old broilers, dietary krill meal and addition of Con A decreased the proliferation of PBMC while enhanced proliferation of PBMC was shown in birds stressed by the LPS during 2nd week of age. The results indicated dietary krill meal affected immune response in broiler.

  • The aim of the study were to investigate the influences of krill (Euphausia superba) meal on the body weight, lipid metabolism functional improvement, blood glucose level, protein component in the sera of rats which fed experimental diets for 5 weeks. Serum concentrations of total cholesterol, Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, free cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), phospholipid (PL) and blood glucose were higher in the control diet group (G1 group) than the control diet plus 10% krill meal group (G2 group), the control diet plus 20% krill meal group (G3 group), the control diet plus 30% krill meal group (G4 group), and a general dose and time independent one-way analysis of variance was performed to assess efficacy. Conversely depending on the content of krill meal for the High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol level, it showed higher results. The concentrations of total protein, albumin and globulin in sera, there were not significant difference among the groups (p<0.05). The results indicate that a krill meal diet effectively inhibited increases in lipid elevation, blood glucose level in the sera of rats.

  • Effects of Salmonella typhimurium lipopolysacharide(LPS) and dietary krill meal on the Growth and feed utilization were investigated in broiler chicks. Eight cages of five newly hatched chicks each were assigned and fed to one of the experimental diets containing 0.0,(basal) 0.5 or 1.0% krill meal during 3 weeks of experimental period. And half(four) of the eight cages were i.p. injected with saline or LPS(Immune response activation) every alternate day three times beginning 8 day-old during 2 week of age. Dietary krill meal did not affect growth, feed efficiency, nitrogen balance(NB), uric acid excretion, and ME utilization when the saline was injected. However, the immune response activation lowered daily gain and feed intake and NB and increased uric acid excretion, and the relative liver and spleen weight. Also, birds fed diet containing krill meal 1.0% reduced the feed efficiency and increased spleen weight, and ME and NB or ME required for gain compared with those fed basal and krill meal 0.5% diets in LPS-injected chicks. During recovery period from the immunological stress in 3rd week of age, the krill meal diet reduced the weight of liver and spleen, The results showcd that dietary krill meal did not affect the growth of broiler chicks, but the higher uric acid excretion or dietary ME value indicated the increased protein decomposition or absorption of dietary energy sources in immune response activated birds.
