Preparation of Fe-ACF/TiO2 Composites and their Photocatalytic Degradation of Waste Water

  • In this study, we prepared Fe-activated carbon fiber(ACF)/$TiO_2$ composites with titanium (VI) n-butoxide (TNB) as the titanium source for ACF pre-treated with iron compounds through the impregnation method. In terms of textural surface properties, the composites demonstrate a slight decrease in the BET surface area of the samples and an increase in the amount of iron compounds treated. The surface morphology of the Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites was characterized by means of SEM. The composites have a porous texture with homogenous compositions of Fe and titanium dioxide distributed on the sample surfaces. The phase formation and structural transition of the iron compounds and titanium dioxide were observed in X-ray diffraction patterns of the Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites. The chemical composition of the Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites, which was investigated with EDX shows strong peaks for the C, O, Fe and Ti elements. The photo degradation results confirm that the Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites show excellent removal activity for the COD in piggery waste due to photocatalysis of the supported $TiO_2$, radical reaction by Fe species, and the adsorptivity and absorptivity of ACF.

침전법에 의한 폐수중의 철이온 제거에 관한 기초 연구 (A Basic Study on the Removal of Iron Ion in Waste Water by the Precipitation Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 폐수중에 함유된 철이온을 제거하기 위하여 2가와 3가 칠이온을 함유하는 용액의 pH를 침전점이상으로 조절함으로서 형성된 수산화철 침전의 침강 특성을 조가하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 수산 이온의 농도 증가는 수산화철 침전의 침강 속도를 빠르게 하고 이때 CaO가 효과적이었다. 고분자 엉김제는 수산화철 침전의 초기 침강 속도를 빨라지게 하지만 과량은 침강 속도를 저하시킨다. 수산화철 침전의 농도가 높아지면 침강 속도가 크게 감소되므로 수산화물로서 침전시켜 제거할 철이온의 농도는 $10^{-2}$mol/ㅣ이하로 조절됨이 바람직하다.

  • The finishing process for dies and molds is directly related to finished surface quality, but many parts of process depend on human labor which needs much time and value. So automatic finishing machine has been produced for dies and molds, and applied widely for finishing process. Conventionally finishing machine has applied resin bonded finishing pad as a tool, but the removal ability of pad decreases greatly as finishing process goes on. In the finishing mechanism for dies and molds, finishing process is affected severely by cutting process, so can be divided into removing cusp and smoothing surface process. So, this study investigated the application of cast iron bonded diamond pellet for press dies, which is considered to have better characteristics than the other metal bonded pellets. The finishing characteristics were compared the between finishing pellet and pad. And finishing performance was appraised as the several cutting surfaces.

  • The reduction of carbon dioxide emissions becomes a global issue, the main source of carbon dioxide emissions in the Asian region is the energy conversion sector, especially coal-fired power plants. We are working to develop technologies that will at least limit the increase in carbon dioxide emissions from the thermal power plants as one way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Our research aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by removing iron oxide scale from the feedwater system of thermal power plants using a superconducting high-gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) system, thereby reducing the loss of power generation efficiency. In this paper, the background of thermal power plants in Asia is outlined, followed by a case study of the introduction of a chemical cleaning line at an actual thermal power plant in Japan, and the possibility of introducing it into the thermal power plants in China based on the results.

  • In the RH process, it is possible to obtain quicker processing times by enhancing the decarburization rates at a low carbon range of steel melt through Ar gas injection into the vacuum vessel. The RH decarburization reaction was simulated through a dissolved oxygen removal reaction by injecting nitrogen into a 1/8 scale RH water model system. The gas nozzles for the N$_{2}$ injection into the vacuum vessel were located at the lowest level of the vessel's outer wall. The nitrogen bubbling in the vacuum vessel resulted in an increase in the reaction rate constant, which rose in accordance with an increase in the bubbling flow rate and number of nozzles used. However, there was almost no variation in the reaction rate constant, which depended on the horizontal positions of the bubbling nozzles.

  • Red mud is a waste material formed during the production of alumina when the bauxite ore is subjected to caustic leaching. It is a brick-red colored highly alkaline (pH 10-12) sludge containing mostly oxides of iron, aluminum, titanium, and silica. Red mud, due to its high aluminum, iron, and calcium contents, has been suggested as a cheap adsorbent for removal of toxic metals (e.g., As, Cr, Pb, Cd) as well as for water or wastewater treatment. The basic advantage of red mud is its versatility in application. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of red mud on stabilization and fixation of heavy metals (such as Pb, Cu, C $r^{6+}$, Cd, Zn) contained in the Al-coating sludge and soil. The results showed that the concentration of heavy metals leached from the treated sludge and soil was low, meeting the regulatory permit level.

  • The effect of free fatty acid in fatty soil on the detergency of particulate soil was investigated. Cotton lawn fabric was soiled with the mixture of polmitic acid, hydrogenated fat, paraffin oil and iron oxide black altering the contents of palmitic acid and was laundered with different sur-fastants under various temperature and alkalinity. The rate of soil removal was estimated by means of the spectoometic analysis of iron on the fabric before and after washing. The results of dergency were compared those obtained by reflactance and K/S value from Kubelka-Munk equation which were derived from reflactance measurements.

  • 철강산세작업중 발생하는 폐산세용액의 재활용중 산화철이 부산물로 생산되고 있다. 이 산화철은 안료 및 훼라이트원료로 사용되고 있다. 훼라이트원료로 사용되는 산화철은 불순물을 엄격히 제한하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 산화철의 주요 불순물인 실리카 및 기타성분을 제거하기 위하여 폐산세용액에서 여과법, 흡착매체법, Fe leaching, 중화법 등 여러 가지 제거방법으로 불순물제거 실험을 하여, 각 방법의 효과를 고찰하였다.

산소수 주입-양수 기법을 통한 강변여과수 내 철/망간 저감 평가 (In Situ Iron-manganese Removal by an Oxygenated Water Injection-and-extraction Technique in a Riverbank Filtration System)

  • 최근 수자원확보 방안으로 강변여과수를 활용하는 방식이 적용되고 있으나 취수원의 철/망간 함량이 높아 다양한 문제가 야기되고 있다. 이에 경기도 평택시와 안성시에 위치한 안성천 강변여과수 개발 Test Bed에서 주입 산소수의 산소농도와 주입량을 변화시키면서 철/망간 지중제거의 효과 및 효율을 평가하였다. 철/망간의 제거시험은 3단계로 이루어지며 주입단계, 정지단계, 양수단계를 반복적으로 수행하였다. 현장시험 결과 Fe2+ 농도는 양수기간 동안 0.3 mg/L 이하를 유지하였으며 망간은 0.8 mg/L 이하로 농도가 저감되었다. 또한, 주입-양수시험을 반복할수록 철의 농도는 먹는물 수질기준(0.3 mg/L 이하)을 만족하는 양수량이 증가하였으며, 산소수 주입량의 최대 5배 이상 양수가 가능하였다. 망간의 경우 철과 동일한 기준까지 감소되지는 않았으나, 양수에 따라 농도가 저감되는 경향성을 보였다.

위단지구 티탄자철석의 수성 저온산화에 따른 자성변화 (Low-temperature Aqueous Oxidation of Titanomagnetites: Changes in Magnetic Properties of Pseudo-single Domain Particles)

  • 티탄자철석(titanomagnetite)은 해양지각을 이루는 현무암에 존재하는 중요한 자성광물로서 일반적으로 저온산화에 의해 양이온이 결핍된(cation-deficient) 티탄맥히마이트(titanomaghemite)로 변한다. 실험실에서 철성분 제거방식(removal of iron mechanism)을 통해 자연에서 일어나는 티탄자철석의 수성 저온산화(low-temperature aqueous oxidation)를 재현하였으며, 산화정도에 따라 티탄맥히마이트의 자기적 특성이 민감하게 변화하는 것을 관찰하였다. 본 실험 결과 산화정도에 따라 티탄자철석의 큐리온도(Tc)는 166$^{\circ}C$에서 40$0^{\circ}C$로 증가하였고, 상온에서의 포화자화 강도(Ms)는 126.30 kA/m(25.26 emu/g)에서 16.55 kA/m(3.31 emu/g)로 감소하였으며, 항자기력(Hc)은 6.13 kA/m(77 Oe)에서 38.83 kA/m (488 Oe)로 잔류항자기력(Hcr)은 23.24 kA/m(292 Oe)에서 47.03 kA/m(591 Oe)로 증가함을 관찰하였다. 또한 대자율($\chi$)은 $2023{\times}10^{-6}SI$에서 $84{\times}10^{-6}SI$로 감소함을 나타내었다. 이와 같은 결과를 근거로 현재에서 30 Ma까지의 해양지각의 자화 강도의 변화는 티탄자철석의 저온산화에 의한 결과로 해석하였으며 30~120 Ma에 이르는 해양지각의 자화 강도의 변화는 해양지각에 포함된 티탄자철석의 산화와 산화에 순반되는 광물전에 의한 결과로 추정하였으며 보다 구체적인 원인은 해양지각에서 채취한 시료에 대한 체계적인 연구를 통해서 밝혀질 것으로 기대된다.
