  • In the present study, the compression process in scroll compressor was simulated in consideration of flow leakage and heat transfer. Tangential and radial leakages of the refrigerant between the scrolls were considered as nozzle flow. The experiment was first conducted with a scroll compressor for automobile air conditioning system and R134a as a refrigerant. Temperature and pressure were measured at the suction and discharge ports of the compressor to determine the thermodynamic states of the refrigerant flow. Temperature distribution of the scroll with the involute angle was also measured by thermocouples that were installed inside the scroll. Measured temperature distribution was compared with the numerical results. From this result, the thermal effect of mechanical contact was found to be important in heat transfer of the compression process.

  • In this study, designing of precise linear transferring device which can be applied to industrial machine and robot industry has been introduced. The direction of power flow and output feature are similar to current Rack-Pinion type. However, unlimited length extensity via rack modulizing, and securing high velocity transportation have been realized by applying Pin-Pinion Gear type at the operation part. The analysis has been calculated to obtain the Pin-Pinion Gear's optimized tooth profile. As a result of research, it is impossible to control precisely even overlap at the teeth of involute and sprocket. Because they have peculiar gearing structure. Therefore, modified cycloid tooth has been proposed to perform high velocity, precise control without backlash.

  • It is possible for a volume of fluid to become trapped in the space between two adjoining teeth and the tips of the teeth engage in Gear Pumu with involute teeth. This trapped fluid leads to several harmful results, for example fluctuating pressure and aeration of pump. In this study, hence, theoretical and experimental analyses on this 'Trapping' were accomplished as using relief port, one of the means for avoiding it. Also, the grasp and analysis on variational type of the internal pressure in parallel with above experiments are achieved so that hydrodynamic behaviors in pump were contemplated.

  • This paper presents a design procedure for a face gear and pinion used in a handpiece with a $160^{\circ}\acute{y}$ contra angle and 1:2 gear ratio. Based on the geometric theory of gearing, the tooth profile of the face gear and pinion is developed. To analyze the contact pressure, the gear profile should be determined before calculating the stress between the two gears. The concept of calculating the face gear profile is that it can be generated by the coordinate transformation of the shaper profiles, which have involute curves, using a simulation method from the gear manufacturing process.

  • As high capacity and precision forging presses have become available, it is possible to manufacture gears by forging technology. In gear manufacturing by forging, however, there are problems of designs of ides and preforms. In the present paper, two exampels are presented to show how the rigid plastic finite element method can be utilized to overcome the problems. The examples are spur gear forging and interanl-apline gear forging. Both analyses are three dimensional using eight node linear block elements with approximation that the involute curve can be represented by lines and arcs. Results of the analyses include metal flow in dies and required load during forging which aid to decide proper designs.

  • In this paper, the clamping type forging of helical gears has been investigated. Clamping type forging is an operation in which the product is constrained to extrude sideways through an orifice in the container wall. Punch is cylindrical shaped. The punch compresses a cylindrical billet placed in a die insert. As a consequence the material flows in a direction perpendicular to that of punch movement. The forging has been analysed by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, an involute curve has been introduced to represent tooth profile of the gear. Numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, helix angle, friction factor and initial height of billet on the forging of helical gears.

  • To reduce the vibration of a gear driving system. the modification of gear tooth from the orignal involute gear profile is usually done in gear manufacturers. The quantity of tooth modification has been decided on the basis of the interference between two gear teeth during gear meshing and the elastic deformation due to loading. However. the dynamic characteristics with tooth modification has to be investigated to avoid the instability to the variation of gear meshing stiffness and the nonlinearity due to gear backlash which results in sub- or super-harmonics in its responses. This research shows the dynamic characteristics with various tooth modifications in its type and quantity.

  • After stepping into a new field of vacuum 30 years ago, our company has grown up steadily as a specialized vacuum industry, and now we can provide vacuum devices covering most of the pressure range. We are planning to put out high level dry pump like a multistage Roots pump on the market in the near future. Procedures of technology development for designing, fabricating, and testing the multistage Roots pump of 600 L/min class will be briefly reported. Core items of the technical development on the multistage Roots pump are as follows; elaborated profile design of 3-lobe rotors using an involute curve, optimization of rotor dimensions, especially for clearances and rotor width, considering the pumping speed, compression ratio and heat load, and establishment of a standardized test system. At present, the multistage Roots pump is about to come into commercialization.

  • A new tooth profile which is adjusted on the amount of addendum modification factor is proposed for reducing vibration and noise of gears. The transmission error of the new profile can be designed more uniformly than that of the standard involute profile. The basic concepts of tooth profile modification are to reduce the load in contact area and to find the appropriate profile modification factor for operation condition. In this study, gears were estimated to constructive safety of bending strength and contact strength durability by using ROMAX program, and were compared with results by design formula of AGMA standard.
