The Influences on the Self-Regulated Learning Ability due to Nursing Students' Interpersonal Competence and Self-Determination Motivation (간호대학생의 대인관계유능성, 자기결정성동기가 자기조절학습능력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study based on descriptive research is to examine the convergent relationship of interpersonal competence, self-determination motivation and self-regulated learning ability in nursing students. Data collected from 251 nursing students at a university located in C province from June, 2018 to July, 2018 are analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0. As a result, there are positive correlation between interpersonal competence(r=.361, p<.001) and self-determination motivation(r=.466, p<.001) and self-regulated-learning-ability. Interpersonal competence and self-determination motivation have not meaningful relationship(r=.091, p=.148). It is turned out that interpersonal competence and self-determination motivation are influenced on the self-regulated learning ability respectively. Based on these results, research should be continued on the developing new educational methods through convergence of factors by analyzing relevant factors to enhance interpersonal competence and self-determination motivation that affect self-regulated learning ability.

The Causal Relationship among Academic Resilience, Covert Narcissism, Interpersonal Competence and Self-Efficacy of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 학업탄력성과 내현적자기애, 대인관계능력 및 자기효능감과의 인과적 관계)

  • This study intended to investigate the structural relationship and the pathway of academic resilience, covert narcissism, interpersonal competence and self-efficacy for nursing students. For this purpose, 460 nursing students from three colleges in J province were sampled for convenience. The result of this study were as follows: First, the fix indexed of causal model among academic resilience, covert narcissism, interpersonal competence and self-efficacy were identified suitably. Second, covert narcissism, interpersonal competence and self-efficacy of nursing students has direct effect on academic resilience, it was statistically significant. Third, interpersonal competence and self-efficacy of nursing students showed mediating effects on the relationship between covert narcissism and academic resilience, but they were competitive effects. Self-efficacy mediated the relationship between interpersonal competence and academic resilience. Based on the results of the study, the necessity of developing an effective education program considering the academic resilience and related factors of nursing students was suggested.

Mediating Effect of Communication Ability on Relationships among Self-awareness, Empathy, Emotional Intelligence and Interpersonal Competence of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 자기인식, 공감능력, 감성지능과 대인관계역량의 관계에서 의사소통능력의 매개효과)

  • The study was done to investigate the mediating effects of communication ability on the relationship among self-awareness, empathy, emotional intelligence and interpersonal competence of nursing students. Data on subject's self-awareness, empathy, emotional intelligence and interpersonal competence were collected using a structured self-reporting questionnaire. During September and December 2019, data were collected from 282 nursing students in J and K cities. Data were analyzed using three-step mediated regression analysis with the SPSS WIN 21.0 programs. Self-awareness, empathy, emotional intelligence and communication ability were positively correlated with interpersonal competence of nursing students. Also, communication ability had a partial mediating effect on the relationship among self-awareness, empathy, emotion intelligence and interpersonal competence. These finding indicate that it will be more effective to education strategies that can increase self-awareness, empathy, emotional intelligence and communication ability together when developing education programs that improve interpersonal competence.

The Influence of Pre-service early childhood Teacher's Empathetic Ability and Interpersonal Competence on Teacher's Efficacy (예비유아교사의 공감능력과 대인관계 유능성이 교사효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the influence of pre-service early childhood teacher's empathy and interpersonal competence on teacher efficacy. The subjects of this study include 358 pre-service early childhood teachers. The instruments used in this study were the emotional empathy scale, interpersonal competence questionnaire (ICQ) and the teacher efficacy scale. Collected data was analyzed using the SPSS program. In order to determine the general background of the pre-service teachers, the frequency and percentages were used. For examination of empathetic ability, interpersonal competence and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers, a descriptive statistics analysis was conducted. In addition, in order to assess the relationship among empathetic ability, interpersonal competence and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers, Pearson's correlation analysis was conducted. Lastly, for the examination of the effects and relative explanation of empathetic ability, interpersonal competence and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers, multiple regression analysis was conducted. The results of this study were as follows: first, pre-service early childhood teachers were shown to have higher empathetic ability, interpersonal relationships and teacher efficacy rates than average. Second, there was a positive correlation among empathetic ability, interpersonal competence and teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers. Third, teacher efficacy of pre-service early childhood teachers was influenced by their empathetic ability and interpersonal competence. The results of this study suggest that teacher efficacy improvement programs for pre-service early childhood teachers should consider their empathetic ability. Also, study results emphasize the necessity of empathetic ability and interpersonal relationship improvement program for pre-service early childhood teachers.

Effects of Psychological Well-being, Self-esteem and Weight Concern on Interpersonal competence of University students (대학생의 심리적 안녕감, 자아존중감과 체중걱정이 대인관계 유능성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to identify the factors influencing the interpersonal competence in nursing students. Data collection was conducted on 167 university students from November to December 2019. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression using the JAMOVI program. As a result of the study, the interpersonal competence of the subjects was different according to gender, personality, life satisfaction and weight satisfaction, and there was a positive correlation between psychological well-being and self-esteem. Factors affecting interpersonal competence include positive personality groups (β=.31, p=.027), psychological well-being (β=.21, p=.022) and self-esteem (β=.24,) p=.007), and these variables accounted for 25.2% of interpersonal competence. Therefore, in order to improve the interpersonal competence of university students, it is necessary to develop a program that considers their psychological well-being and self-esteem.

Comparison of Operating Room Nurses and General Ward Nurses on Communicative Competence and Interpersonal Relationship Ability within the Medical Team (수술실간호사와 병동간호사의 의료진과의 의사소통 능력 및 대인관계 능력 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose was to compare operating room (OR) nurses and general ward nurses on their communication competence and interpersonal relationship ability within the medical team. Methods: Participants were 276 nurses (OR 122, ward 154) working in one of 4 university hospitals located in I and K areas. Data were collected using a questionnaire and data collection was done in June, 2013. Comparisons between OR nurses and general ward nurses on communication competence and interpersonal relationship ability were analyzed using ANCOVA. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in communication competence (F=11.96, p=.001) with average score for OR nurses at 3.37 points and ward nurses at 3.53 points. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in interpersonal relationship ability (F=15.51, p<.001) with the average score for OR nurses at 3.30 points and ward nurses at 3.50 points. Conclusion: The results indicate a need to develop a variety of programs to promote communication competence in OR nurses and to enhance the openness of interpersonal relationship ability in human resource management.

The Moderating Effects of Interpersonal Competence in the Correlation between Academic Stress for Adolescents and Happiness (청소년의 학업스트레스와 행복의 관계에서 대인관계 유능감의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of interpersonal competence on the effects of academic stress on happiness of adolescents. For this research a survey on academic stress, interpersonal competence, and happiness was conducted with a total 487 high school students living in Daegu city. The collected data was statically processed by using SPSS 20.0 according to frequency, descriptive statistics, and multi regression analysis. The main results can be summarized as follow. First, Academic stress affected the adolescents' happiness. The higher the level of academic stress was, the smaller the adolescent's happiness. second, between academic stress and happiness, conflict management and disclosing personal information played a moderating role to reducing the academic stress. That is, it was confirmed that interpersonal competence played a moderating role on the effect that academic stress had on adolescent happiness. In conclusion, this study can be practically applied as basic information to increase happiness on adolescents. In addition, the results provided valuable insights for developing program the intervene for adolescents' happiness.

Effects of college students' adjustment, Character, and communication competence on field practice adaptation -Mediating effect of interpersonal competence (대학생의 대학적응, 인성, 의사소통능력이 현장실습적응에 미치는 영향 -대인관계 유능성의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of college adjustment, character, communicative competence, and interpersonal competence on field practice adaptation of college student. Subjects were 231 nursing students and medical students in J city and C city, G-do. Using SPSS/WIN 20.0, multiple regression analysis using Baron & Kenny's three-step procedure and Sobel test were used to verify the significance of the mediator effect. The variables directly affecting field practice adaptation were college adjustment (${\beta}=.22$, p=.003) and interpersonal competence (${\beta}=.38$, p<.001). Character and Communicative competence did not have a direct affect on field practice adaptation (${\beta}=.02$, p=.740), (${\beta}=.04$, p=.590) but indirect effect through interpersonal competence was significant(${\beta}=.15$, p=.004), (${\beta}=.19$, p=.011). As character and communicative competence are the variables affecting field practice adaptation through interpersonal competence, training programs to improve character, communicative competence, and interpersonal competence in college are needed.

Relation between Smartphone Addiction and Interpersonal Competence of College Students using Social Network Service (소셜네트워크서비스를 이용하는 대학생들의 스마트폰 중독과 대인관계능력의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between smartphone addiction and interpersonal competence of college students using social network service(SNS) through smartphones. This study used a descriptive study design. The convenience sample consisted of 502 college students in six cities. The data were collected from May to June in 2012 using Korean Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale and Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. The results showed that 24.8% of SNS users were considered as a risk group, while 75.2% were normal user group. There were no significant differences of interpersonal competence between risk group and normal user group in the SNS users. However, risk group had higher self-disclosure scores than normal user group. The subjects who had higher scores for virtual life, one of smartphone addiction subdomains, had lower interpersonal competence and those with higher smartphone addiction scores showed lower score of managing interpersonal conflict in subdomains of interpersonal competence. These findings would contribute in development of preventive interventions for smartphone addiction and improvement program for interpersonal competence in college students.

Relations on Self-esteem, Empathy and Interpersonal Relationship for Reinforcing Competence in Communication of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 의사소통 역량강화를 위한 자아존중감과 공감능력 및 대인관계 간 상관관계 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the relations on self-esteem, empathy and interpersonal relationship to reinforce competence in communication skills of nursing students. Method: Participants consisted of 84 entire 1st year students of a nursing college. Variables included self-esteem, empathy, interpersonal relationship and demographic variables. Data was analyzed by frequencies, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results: Satisfaction in nursing science of the subjects was 97.5% above average, Self understanding of the subjects was 93% above average. There were significant difference in self-esteem, empathy and interpersonal relationship among satisfaction in nursing science and self understanding of the subjects. Self-esteem positively correlated to empathy, empathy positively correlated to interpersonal relationship and interpersonal relationship positively correlated to self-esteem. Conclusion: In order to improve core competence in effective communication skills of nursing students, it is important to actively intervene for improving self-esteem and empathy and interpersonal relationship. Therefore, when organizing a communication subject of a nursing college, it is crucial to develop a program that leads to higher learning satisfaction of nursing study by improving self-esteem and empathy and interpersonal relationship skills.
